I was waiting in the hope that something else might come out as it still seems a bit confused and unclear.
I think we all knew Minecon2017 was not happening, they left it far to late to announce a location, but this whole thing of 'its a 90 minutes live stream with some other stuff we cant announce yet.. maybe an event in London' smacks of a last minute panic thing slapped together in the rush.
I've been to every Minecon so far and I became disillusioned with the whole process long ago. In my 'professional life' I do a lot of business conventions, and those things are organized to an inch of their life, so I know it's possible to plan things years in advance, I just got my tickets to an event in 2019!
Don't worry tho, there will be some merchandise to buy.. it's not Minecon without the opportunity to flog you a lot of Plastic Tat.
Hate to tell you, but you missed it, here is the email I got:
On behalf of Minecraft and J!NX, we want to thank you for attending MINECON 2016! As you know, demand was high at our store this year for the exclusive purple sheep plush and MINECON 2016 event tees. Unfortunately, not everyone had a chance to get their hands on them. Well, we have good news! For a limited time, we're offering only to MINECON attendees an opportunity to purchase these two items*. We'll be taking pre-orders from October 14 to October 24. You will receive an email on or around October 14 with full instructions.
If you scroll down that page, below the section to change your skin there is a section titled 'Change your cape' with a drop down that lets you pick which cape your can use.
I just got around to adding my cape from this year to my account and it seemed to change it to that by default, see screenshot attached.
Am I the only one? or has there been a distinct lack of communcation about Minecon this year? I've got the 'you got your ticket' email, but I've heard nothing since.
In previous years there has been a slow drip of emails in the lead up, but I've not had any this year.... is it just me?
How close to the event (usually) do you mean by "last moment"?
Going thought my post history :).
In 2012, it was November 23rd (MineCon was Novevember 24-25)
In 2013, it was October 29th (MineCon was November 2–3)
In 2015, it was July 1st (MineCon was July 4-5)
Based on previous years, they probably wont announce those until the last moment.
Last year they accidentally published the guidebook app before officially announcing the line up... probably expect the same this year.
As much as I enjoy MineCon, it does seem to be so badly organized EVERY year, I'd hoped Microsoft might of gotten things sorted out, but seems not so far, 28 days to go and theres been no email communications yet.
I have been to every MineCon so far, and they have never asked for any form of ID, they just scan the barcode from your ticket. In London I did'nt even bother printing it, they just scanned it from my phone.
In Florida when I left my Hotel I ended up talking with a kid and his mom who where going to register at the same time, and she told me that she had bought her ticket the week before on Ebay, it clearly had a guys name on it, and again they just scanned it and give her a wrist band/lanyard.
I'm not saying thats going to happen this time, it could be the first time they do actually need Picture ID, but it's not been an issue so far.
The 3" ones that Jinx where selling? there was no real mention of them. Tho they where selling 'the new' Enderman figure (only 3 per customer). Im not sure if that was the same thing or not tho.
Mattel seemed to have the licence for a lot of Minecraft stuff and it looked like they where planning on putting out their own figure line, along with some other bizarre items... like the Periodic Table made out of ore blocks.
Hilight of the show for me was the Ghast Quadrocoper toy.. I want one NOW!!!!
If you went to the Orlando Minecon there was an area for you to walk through that had some 'life size' models of creepers/zombies/etc and music/sound effects from the game where being played, it's what americans call a 'dark ride' only on foot. There where more of the models around the expo hall if your not sure what I'm talking about.
Well this year its back and this time it is a ride as there where cars to ride on.
If you go search for it on youtube there are multiple videos people took from inside it.

Well again, thats kind of proving my point, theres several unofficial things happening on the same day, but no details as those of yet.
Mojang are epicly terrible at organization, but the total silence followed by this 'announcement' with so much vagueness is a new low.

In 2011 you had to give your IGN, I got home about 2 days after MineCon ended and I noticed it then (not sure when it arrived)
In 2012 they sent a link your emai address, mine arrived on 24/11/2012 (first day of the con)
In 2013 they sent a link your emai address, mine arrived on 30/10/2013 (2 days before the con started!)
In 2015 they sent a link your emai address, mine arrived on 07/09/2015 (2 days after the con ended!)

Anyone know what the square coin thing is for?
A
The guy on the right, he came in a pastic case protected in cardboard....
Im an old man now, so if its part of some yu-gi-oh game all 'da kids' are playing I'm not recognizing it..
It kinds of looks like it has a purpose but I've no idea what that could be.

Well, an interesting selection this year:
- A Minecon Pen
- A Minecon Notepad (I assume for autographs)
- A Minecon Villager Enamel-decorated pin (like the one they gave away in Orlando)
- A Square Metal 'coin' in a plastic case
- Minecon 2015 Steve Mini-Figure
- Attendee Lanyard and Pass
- A4 pape with map and Schedual
The Bag is a much better quaility than previous years its made from Fabric rather than nylon.
If anyone realy wants better quality pictures I can take some better ones.
