Actually that makes sense. I didn't think of pushing the minecart along the ground.
So when you push them towards a cart, do they automatically enter it?
If I do want to get them out of the cart, is there a way to "exit" the villager from a minecart without hurting them? When I set up my shops, I plan to use half slabs to block them in without losing the "natural" look of a sales stand.
I've RTFM (by that i mean I googled this), and I understand that use can use minecarts to transport villagers between villages and other locations.
I want to be able to take a specific villager and force him (her?) to a specific spot in the same village, like to a jail or a shop. You can't use a lead and a minecart would IMO be inefficient.
I've found that disabling real-time protection in your Antivirus (Windows 8 ships with Defender if you don't have an antivirus) all but eliminated my problems with getting lag spikes of death.
I've tried adding exclusions to Windows Defender, but that doesn't seem to be enough. You have to disable active protection too, for some odd reason.

Is your floor made of "upside down" slabs? If it's made of slabs and they are "right side up" (that is, they take up the bottom half of the block), monsters will not spawn on them.
I am gearing up to go fight the Ender Dragon soon. My question is, does it make sense to wait until 1.8 stable comes out? Or should I fight him as soon as I can and update later?
Nothing I read so far says that the fight dynamic changes, so the reason I ask the question is the experience loot. On one hand you get fewer levels from the experience, but on the other hand, it only takes 3 levels (rather than 30) to enchant an item. Being able to see the enchants you get will make it easier to avoid enchants you don't want.
Edit: I figured it out. Fast Render was on. After turning it off the artifacts went away.
I have been running Optifine for a while now, and I have some weird artifacts with water and hoppers. I've tried resetting my video settings, but I still get the artifacts when running optifine. When I set it back to vanilla I don't get the artifacts. Does anyone know what combination of settings that might cause this?
dig out a 2 high cave under his house and leave it unlit. He'll start hearing random zombie/spider noises, even during the day, and have no idea where they are coming from.
Found my first cave to explore, found lava and died in it.
I thought I was smart by building a house into a hillside, came out to find multiple spiders on my roof, waiting for me. (I didn't know at the time they were neutral in daylight. Did I mention I hate spiders?)
My first custom world creation landed my spawn point at the time of a mountain at cloud level, where there was no safe way down except to dig. lol, it's been a fun world so far.

I have enough villagers that if I did that, hilarity would ensue. The zombie would be more ADD than our 6 month old cat.
To everyone else: thank you for the advice. I have enough info to get my village set up the way I want it.

Excellent point! I love posts that put things into perspective. You earned a +1, and also have a cupcake!

Ok. I think I like this idea. Or specifically, wait until 1.8 comes out but don't upgrade yet. Slay the Enderdragon, collect XP, then upgrade.
Otherwise I'll be walking around with 70+ levels, which I don't think is a good idea.
Thanks for the idea!

Don't know how to fix the bug, but you can try to clear them faster using lava
