Anyone still use this? Any problems?

If anyone really wants a port/update or anything, I could do one.

Edit the bat file to add more memory:

    -Xms128M -Xmx1024M

the 1024 is the maximum. You can make it even higher if you like.

If you give yourself infinite health and build a fuse to the gun, you can wait inside the barrel and be fired out with the TNT.

You can also fire yourself into the air.

posted a message on Infinite Levels split between players
Now I want to point out that I have not read every infinate map size suggestion. I have not read/posted/kept up with minecraft in quite a while. But anyway, I have an efficient way to deal with extremely large map sizes. Sorry if something like this has been said.

Anyway, my idea is based off of good ol bittorrent and file sharing networks.

    How it works:

    1. Infinite sized servers be OWNED by a central location where many many players play. For instance, the major one would be owned by notch's server.

    2. EVERY player of minecraft would be responsible for ~4 chunks (128*128*128 each) of land (number would be customizable if you had bad internet). This means that while playing minecraft, the server would be streaming new chunks to their harddrive. Whenever players are online they would be streaming these map files to other players.

    3. So what happens when you want to go into a newly explored zone? It's simple, you can only go into a newly explored zone if it is ajacent to one that has ~10 hosts. This is to make sure that the areas will be saved to someones computer. When you enter the new zone, Notch's server will save the data until new players enter and are able to save this new zone.

    4. What if no one is on who holds the data for a certain chunk? The server will take many steps to prevent this. Popularity of chunks is very important, and the server will assign more popular areas to more people. Also, the server will keep track of player playtime to determine how much they can stream daily.
If the server notices less then 3 streamers on a particular area, it will save that chunk into a backup slot and help with sending it to players.

    5. How are chunks divided? Well, I think it would work best to have one giant select-area grid on startup where you would choose what chunk to load. This would load the surrounding 512*512*128 area for you to play in the same way that levels load now. The surrounding worlds would be slowly streamed to you and be saved to your temporary internet files. If you wanted to enter an area that had not been completely streamed then you would enter another load screen until it finished.

    TL:DR
Infinate level split into chunks and have players save parts of it on their harddrive. When you load level, online players send chunks of maps to you.

    OTHER:

Dunno if this will work with an online applett. May need a stand-alone offline version so the firewall doesn't freak out.

I also know this will mean lots of packet handling+coding for notch. It's the kind of thing that
Also, notch will need to decode every bit being sent to make sure it matchs hosts of the same area's information. Imagine someone sending a corrupted area and screwing up the server! :S

Could be bottlenecked by players internet connection and number of players availible. If there were only ~20 players playing on the server at a time then I imagine the world couldn't get past 30 areas.

    Heh, this still going on?

Haven't played minecraft in forever. Will probably start up some time soon. (dock really gone?)

If anyone wants the source code badly I'll send it to them. I'll admit, the source is a messy shitpile of ineffeciencies (heck, it was my first program), but I see no use of it collecting dust on my computer.

You should be able to run maps at any size by editing the bat to include something like this:
    -Xms512M -Xmx1024M
Just allocates more ram for isocraft to use.

Did this long ago on a spleef arena where you just build sand on top of the floor. Both players run under the floor and delete the solid block causing sand to fall onto other player.

Well if java can run on linux then this can.

Anyway, notch has implemented his own isometric visualizer into mineraft so I doubt I'll do much on this one.

So their critizism is not valid just because they didn't phrase properly? Do you not realize that only harsh critizism goes through?

I could say the artwork was distasteful, but it's an ugly pile of crap gets the point across more powerfully.

Now I really don't want to start a flame war and ruin christmas, so can we please have a day of not talking about the new art? I'm done with talking about this stuff.

I'll release the code when I get bored of working on this. It's really short and I bet many people could write better, but if anyone's interested then sure.

I'll try to get work done after christmas. I've been busy for the past week and so progress has been incredibly slow.

You could just say the "regular" model to be not be so vague. It makes you look insecure, insidious, and generally ill-trusted.

I was talking about the texture from his old zombie game based off of china wars because calling it the "regular" model sounds like I'm talking about the model and not the texture, and "regular" texture was inspecific. I wanted zuriki to put the "regular" texture onto the model she created.

Your whole attittude is really starting to get on my nerves. You're going around completely insulting anyone who has the slightest amount of complaint against dock's artwork. You keep saying that anyone who has critizism is only tearing the comunity apart, despite you being the first one to respond with a nasty reply to their otherwise valid critizism. It's only dragging the community farther apart and alienizing those who oppose. The only troll here is you.

The block size is the same, however, and that must be taken into consideration.

Block size has practically nothing to do with lag.

Put all the files and the map file in the same folder.

Open the server softwares "jar" file with 7zip and drag the com folder out and place it in the isocraft jar.

    Run.
