WEEKLY PRE-RELEASES SCHEDULED
24 November 2011 - 06:58 PM Posted By Sacheverell 179 Comments
Jeb recently stated that Mojang plans on doing weekly "snapshot" pre-releases for players to test. The pre-release builds are patched much as before - you must manually copy the test .jar over your existing one - and aim to playtest various fixes, additions and such to future official releases. You can test this week's pre-release by downloading the .jar file here, and copying the downloaded file over your current minecraft.jar file.
Jeb notes that this pre-release is very close to what version 1.0.1 will be - feel free to test it out and offer feedback!

YOGSCAST RESPONDS TO STATEMENT
23 November 2011 - 11:52 PM Posted By Sacheverell 550 Comments
Simon Lane (better known to Yogscast fans as Honeydew) has issued a response to recent statements regarding Yogscasts' alleged behavior at Minecon. They seemed somewhat confused and dismayed at statements regarding their behavior, stating that they were "surprised and confused about where this stuff has come from - especially since the only time we spoke to Notch was at the interview." Further comments by Simon emphasized happiness that they were able to connect to fans directly, and that the Yogscast crew were disappointed that they couldn't sign and meet every fan present.
Both sides of the dispute seem to point only to two tired parties having a minor misunderstanding, which is already clearing up. You can view the entire statement by Yogscast right here!
UPDATE: Notch has responded to the Yogscast's recent statement, noting that the situation is likely a "stress-related misunderstanding." He has apologized for his earlier comments, and seems as eager as the Yogscast crew to put the misunderstanding behind him.

SURVIVAL MODE CONFIRMED FOR MINECRAFT PE!
22 November 2011 - 06:22 AM Posted By Sacheverell 87 Comments
One of the hottest requests for the highly popular Minecraft: Pocket Edition has been the inclusion of a Survival Mode, and now it's confirmed! While no specific date has been set, Mojang did indeed confirm that Survival Mode would be next on the development list for the hit portable game. Currently, Pocket Edition features a game mode which closely resembles Minecraft Classic, an early-development version which was the foundation of Minecraft (and later, Creative Mode in the full release).
The earliest version is confirmed for Xperia Play, and will be optimized for the controls and screen-space provided by the popular hand-held device. While no explicit confirmation was given for other platforms, it remains a strong possibility. Be sure to check here for the official release date of Pocket Edition's Survival Mode, right here on the Minecraft Forum!

MOJANG, YOGSCAST IN DISPUTE
21 November 2011 - 09:50 PM Posted By Sacheverell 1602 Comments
Resized to 99% (was 643 x 409) - Click image to enlarge
It would seem that there is some dispute with recent events, specifically between Mojang's Notch and the crew of Yogscast. While Notch has commented on his side of the tale, Yogs has stated that they will comment on the situation when they arrive home in the UK, and have not officially responded as yet.
The dispute seems to revolve around the Yogscast crews' alleged behavior during the convention. While tensions seem high, there has not yet been a direct conflict between the two parties. Indeed, the interview between Yogscast and Notch seemed quite positive, indicating that the incident may simply be a misunderstanding. We will be posting updates as they become available - check back frequently!

It would seem that we discovered the iOS Pocket Edition early! Originally set to be announced at Minecon, the iOS version of Minecraft PE - not even a week after being released - is already the top-grossing app worldwide! Mojang wanted to point out two important things about this version; that updates will be forthcoming, and it is compatible with the Android version!
The iOS version is currently a form of Creative mode, with 36 blocks available to build as players see fit. You can get it in the App Store right now for $6.99 USD. You'll need iOS 4.3 or later to run it properly, and be played both on the iPhone and iPad. Controls are entirely touch-screen based, and quite intuitive. Check it out!

MINECON RECAP
24 November 2011 - 01:31 AM Posted By Sacheverell 77 Comments
Minecon 2011 was definitely an event to remember! 23 Different countries were in attendance at Minecon; We saw visitors from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the U.S., with ages ranging from infants to 77 years old! It was truly incredible to see a very diverse crowd from all walks of life meeting together to celebrate the launch of an amazing game. There were numerous sponsors, including Curse, Microsoft, Cole2's World, IGN, Multiplay, Razer, Alienware, Super-Earth and Jones Soda.
The convention began strong on Friday with a nice keynote opening, which also marked the official release of Minecraft. This was followed by a wide assortment of panels, contests, giveaways, demos and more. The convention hall was decorated with numerous Minecraft-related statues, banners and more - the various scale-replica monsters, animals and Steve were just incredible. Two statues in particular really stood out: a massive ceiling-high creeper, and a to-scale Ender Dragon!
The Opening Ceremony on Friday:
The Make-A-Wish lunch was very nicely done, with great food, a chance to speak with Mojang, and more. However, the most exciting part was seeing Evan get his Wish - coming to Minecon, hang out with the Yogscast, and one of three unique Minecraft Xbox360s! Additionally, Mojang contributed $20,000 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation! In a surprise move, Matt Dunn had a special surprise for his fiancee, Asia Ramirez - an on-stage proposal!
The Closing Ceremony on Saturday:
Minecraft has undergone an incredible journey in two years, beginning as one man's project and culminating into one of the most popular modern video game titles! We would like to thank and congratulate Mojang for all of their hard work and dedication, as well as everyone who has played and supported this amazing game every step of the journey!
