It's been a very long time everybody.

The clans section of the MCForums seems to be dead, which is really sad. Looking back on all the shenanigans that went on here and all the good times my friends and I had is weird. I'm 19 now, which means I made my forums account when I was 12 and this clan when I was 14 and it's crazy to me just how much time has actually passed. After reading through all these posts I've gotten nostalgic remembering all the people who I played with, made friends with and made enemies with in the process. It's some of the most fun I've ever had. Thanks to everyone apart of it. However unlikely it is, I hope one day this clans section comes close to being as popular as it was back then.

    Until next time,

posted a message on On the topic of group goals in Minecraft

Minecraft has always been one of, if not the most, customizable games on the market. People have recreated cities, designed computers and even built mmorpg's like Wynncraft. Over my multiple years of playing it, I have never seen any kind of servers built with the end goal of the entire community (of that server) to be to complete some goal, besides a build. If that explanation isn't clear enough imagine SAO's goal, with the players clearing 100 floors, in Minecraft.

Really I wan't to know what would make something like this possible or impossible to do. Anybody who has experience in anything something like that would need please do explain what challenges something like that would pose. I'm genuinely curious to why I haven't ever seen an SAO server with all the popularity the show has gained over the past few years, since minecraft tends to adopt major trends into servers with that theme.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm coming from the standpoint of being one of (if not the largest recruiter) of anyone on the clans section. What I've learned is pretty counterintuitive. When you play minecraft and look for recruits is easily the least efficient method. Much more efficient is posting something that will last for people to see over time, like on the forum here. This attracts people much more willing to stay and play with the group. People actively seeking to join a clan are usually much more reliable than people off of a random server. I understand that nothing can be done with respect to moving the forums. However, I'd like to ask if some of the members of the clans community could convene and come up with a potential method to settle our problem here.

You could say that about any section really, why should the clans section have priority over any others? Keep in mind that I'm saying this as somebody who would like to see clans flourish, it just wouldn't be fair to other sections. General Off Topic could surely get some more love if we moved it up there. The current sorting of sections is based on what we believe is most relevant to our users at the top, and least at the bottom, it doesn't really make sense to break that for any section just so they can get more traffic than another.

    Quote from Zuce007»

This is meant as no way to be taken as disrespectful but why are Windows 10 and mobile versions more Important then PC servers. As PC is where it all started.

From a logical standpoint this argument makes sense. The PC section was the first and is what the majority of minecraft users play on, therefore they should be given priority due to both seniority and the total percentage of players. Granted, the people arguing for our side don't have the traffic by sub forum data that the moderation/administration staff do, it can be reasonably assumed that the PC section does take up a large portion of the traffic to this site.

One of the largest points that we'd like to bring to the table is that no other group should be above PC. PC has the largest number of posts, besides mapping and modding and discussion which encompasses all sections, when we compare it to the other groups and number of threads (correct me if I'm wrong I may have glanced over something). This sub section of the Minecraft forums has received little love recently and the playerbase here would love to change that.

Our Goal is not to be on the top of the forums, but to a more reasonable position. I do have to say thank you for looking into our request.

Most of the moderation that happens in these forums comes from reports, it's not that the moderators are avoiding the clans section (at least I'm not), more that we don't get many reports for here. I noticed that there was an influx of reports in the section just recently stemming from this thread, and those have been handled. You can help improve the clans section yourself just by reporting the threads like that you see, I'll also try to keep an eye on it myself more. About the creation of a subforum, that doesn't really seem like a good idea to me. The clans section is already quite inactive like you guys have already said. Trying to split up the more traditional clans and the gaming community like clans doesn't really make sense to me. They're both technically clans, just different types. We're not splitting up server types in the PC servers section, or mods in the mods section, so why clans in the clans section? It could be a possibility to add prefixes to differentiate the different types like we do in the PC servers section if that's something that people want.

I don't think so much that we want to split up the clans section into traditional clans and Gaming communities/Youtube Clans/etc... It's more of that the influx of these clans ends up drowning out clans that would stay active on the minecraftforums causing them to become inactive. The general proposal would be to move around the clans section to a more prominent place on the forums, so that it can receive more traffic. By the section receiving more traffic it will in turn allow clans that are willing to stay to become more prominent and drown out those only here for a weekend.

Our situation is that because the clans section hasn't been receiving much traffic threads like the "Join my youtube team" which are generally low quality and don't last are staying on the front page. This in turn lowers the total amount of applications going to clans which will last and are dedicated to creating a community, which leads to groups leaving and inactivity. With more traffic going to the clans sub forum, the dedicated clans will eventually be able to recruit at a decent rate again. The situation currently is starving clans of recruits and causing groups that would be dedicated to die off.

I agree with both BartinTheEpic and XSphinxHDX, the Clans sub forum has declined substantially from its "Golden Age" from when I started playing here. Some would say it was even before that, but I'll only speak from my own knowledge and experience.

    Inactivity

When I first began playing there was a "Hot topic" icon right next to clans with 100+ posts. I noticed this tended to draw people into these clans and give clan members a reason to remain active. Currently the majority of posts in the clans sub forum are nonsense "Join my YouTube group" or "Sick Gaming Community" that only links to a website that hasn't been updated in 2 years. This pushes down threads that are real clans with real ambitions. A solution I would propose to reinvigorate this sub forum would be just as BartinTheEpic suggested, moving the clans section higher up and further moderation.

I remember the sub forum as an extremely lively place with tons of competition among the clans. At one point my clan, RMMC, was one of 4 serious military style clans (RMMC, Markham, CAFM, and RMM). This isn't even counting all the other types of clans that existed at the time. Not just that, but new clans sprung up practically overnight. We need to grow the community.

    Moderation

Let me start by saying that this sub forum is probably the biggest pain to moderate. I've had multiple friends in the staff community and each one has told me the same thing. Honestly, expanding the moderation staff specific to this section would be a great addition because it must be a massive amount of work to moderate the clans. The clan leaders and players need to make change as well, we can't just put the burden on the moderators. We need as a group to cut down on the amount of low quality posts and the amount of bickering. Keep bickering among two people in the PM's and if you want to go to war with someone, sign a treaty, give an ultimatum, etc... do it in a single post without flaming each other. Just a hint, this makes both parties look like children.

What I'm essentially saying is that because clan leaders/members are not growing at a even somewhat acceptable rate through the forums. It's honestly more efficient to recruit off of a bunch of random servers right now that it is to recruit purely from the sub forum. I shouldn't have to explain how terrible it is recruiting off of servers due to the helplessly small amount of fish that bite. Even holding a group conversation with some people who want to see change and the admins would be lovely. Let me also stress that I'm not blaming this all on staff, who have done an excellent job.

Denied, without ability to re-apply. I've decided to deny you for a variety of reasons. Your application is unprofessional, within the app not a single word was capitalized and your grammar was atrocious. Furthermore, your reason for wanting to join the clan was basically to get revenge upon the 25th Infantry Division and its allies, all things considered I do not consider this a valid reason. Lastly, under the "Gender" question you replied again with an extremely unprofessional answer, we ask that question to make sure we do not offend any incoming recruits by using a pronoun they do not identify with and your response was at best childish. If you have any further questions to why I had denied you, you may PM (Private Message) me over the MCforums or Skype, I ask that you do not bring any arguments to this thread. Thank you for considering the RMMC as a potential clan.

Although I'm a little late to the party, you should still know this Spencier. Out of all the leaders in the Minecraft Clans community you were the only one who I felt was competent enough to make something last, and you did. You were my first (and only long term) ally, and I don't exactly know how different things would be if I hadn't had the opportunity to work with you. Out of respect for you, the RMMC will be willing to make an alliance with the new government of this clan if they wish for one. You are welcome in the RMMC, and I hope that now that summer is coming up we can get back in touch.
