Again, sorry for the lack of updates. Here's some of what's being going on lately:

    1. The OneGamer website is now the official source of information about our Minecraft server. This thread will now direct members who wish to learn about Legaia to our website.
    2. Old news, but we've updated to 1.8.1.
    3. In addition to me, we now have two staff members to help moderate the server: Tycus and yafai001.
    4. Several plugins that were obsoleted, inactive (in terms of development), unused, etc. have been removed and a handful of new plugins were added.
    5. The Nether has been fixed and a Skylands word has been added. Currently, access to these worlds is limited to "verified member" and greater, because no anti-infinite terrain generation griefing has been implemented for these worlds yet (i.e. a border). I plan on generating these maps to 6000x6000 like the main world and putting a 6000x6000 border on them.
    6. The spawn area is being polished into an information center. Books explaining how our server works can be read from bookshelves AND copies may be taken by members to read at any time. So far I've created a "rules" book and a "new user information" book. Several more books will follow.
    7. Helpful NPCs are being added to the server. Quest-giving NPCs are coming soon...perhaps after 1.9, when proper leveling and other RPG-friendly features are introduced.
    8. There are several new building projects on the server.
    9. Many other tweaks and additions that I'm forgetting currently.

Also, unrelated, but cool nonetheless: OneGamer now has two official Terraria servers (finally). However, one of them is currently disabled due to resource availability issues...a server upgrade is planned for the near future. If you guys haven't purchased up a copy of Terraria, I highly recommend it.

I apologize for the lack of updates recently.

This is rather old news, but the Minecraft server version has been updated to version 1.7.3. The OP has been edited to reflect the change.

For now, the Minecraft Forums is still my primary medium of communication for our Minecraft users (it contains updated information, while the information on our website is outdated); however, this will be changing. Soon, the OneGamer website will be the primary source of information and all users will be encouraged to check it regularly. After this change, I will either remove most of the information in the original post and link to our website, or cook up a simple parser so that I can keep both the OneGamer website and the Minecraft Forums information up to date. As it stands right now, I can't be bothered to keep two long, formatted posts updated. Members are still encouraged to check out the news section of our website, as it contains a lot of information that doesn't end up on the Minecraft Forums.

I'm leaving for a Hawaii vacation in 2 hours and will be gone until 7/24/11. Because the (old) laptop that I am bringing cannot play Minecraft and I am the only staff member, member validation this week will be slow. I'd like to take a minute to remind everyone that we're still seeking staff members for Legaia, our Minecraft server, so if you're active, intelligent, and personable, we'd be happy to have you.

In the meantime, new members are still encouraged to build structures in Thurii as a means of approval. As usual, be sure to place a sign containing your name on the structure. For faster approval, fill out an application here (read this first), email admin[at]onegamer.info (replace [at] with @), hop on TeamSpeak, or post in this thread. Please provide the xyz coordinates (press F3) of your structure.

Announcement: Our Minecraft server was down for a period lasting approximately 24 hours. This was due to user error on my part, but I won't elaborate on that. It's back up and running. Sorry about that, guys and gals.

123ISO, can you elaborate on the problem you're having? You are able to build structures, but when you disconnect and reconnect to the server, it's gone?...instantly?...or is there a delay? If that's the case...I have some investigating to do. I'm certainly not deleting your structures, and I'm the only person who has the power to rollback the server. The only real explanations are:

    1. Your structures are being griefed (every single block individually...) by accepted members. This is highly unlikely, but I'll check the logs.
    2. There's some sort of client-side glitch where blocks are being placed on your end, but are not actually placed on the server. This would likely be due to some sort of configuration issue on your end, as no one else has reported this issue.
    3. There's some issues with the server configuration, again, specific to you that I need to investigate.
    4. Server lag? Also unlikely, because no one else has reported this, and if the server was lagging, there would be a delay between when you right click to place the block and when it appears. Also, the blocks would be saved to the server unless there was a complete timeout (at which point you would be disconnected from the server).

I honestly am not sure what the issue is. You should have permission to build, otherwise your blocks would disappear immediately after you placed them. Try right clicking the ground anywhere outside the city of Thurii with a string and tell me what it says. Should say something along the lines of "Permission to build: Yes."

If you have a microphone, I would highly recommend hopping on our Ventrilo server to further discuss this issue. I participate in three different game divisions within OneGamer currently, so I am not on Minecraft all the time. I am, however, logged into Vent nearly 24/7 and at the computer a lot most days. Vent serves as a sort of cross-game way to contact me.

If you can't get on vent, just reply here or hop on the MCServer. Even if I'm not logged in, I frequently check the chat via the web interface.

Spason, sorry for the late reply. I consider you to be an accepted member, you should have build permissions at all times. At the time you posted, there was a bunch of bugs after the upgrade to 1.6.6 involving permissions. This affected a lot of things on the server, such as area protection and the ability to use the telepads. The issue(s) were fixed shortly after (on the same day that) you posted. Hope to see you in-game soon!

For those of you who are interested, I am likely going to be adding a Terraria division to OneGamer. I expect this division to be pretty popular among members in the Minecraft division, because it's pretty similar in concept to Minecraft (albeit the games are very different). Technically the division already exists (we have a vent channel for it and OneGamer members [myself included] are playing together), but it's unofficial.

Here are some things that are delaying the introduction of an official Terraria division:

    1. More or less, there are no anti-griefing measures. There's no way to protect your chests (although there is a piggy bank item that gives you protected storage, however it's limited to one piggy bank inventory per person), nor prevent blocks from being destroyed. The administrative commands for the game are fairly limited. TnT explosions are pretty insane...the only feature to control it is basically to turn it on or off; however, TnT is very helpful in certain situations (e.g. mining meteorite), so the option to turn it off isn't too viable. This has resulted in a password-protected server with a small, close-knit number of OneGamer members and will remain as such until proper anti-griefing measures are implemented into the game, or until someone develops a protection mod...tMod looks very promising.

    2. There is no Linux server software for the game...Windows only. This is pretty unfortunate, as all of the OneGamer services run in a Linux environment. People have tried to emulate the (Windows) Terraria server on Linux using Wine and Mono, and have failed (well, not completely...they can get the server to run, but external connections are refused [e.g. people can't connect]). I can almost guarantee that the developer will release a Linux version of the server software...if he doesn't, I image it will hurt his sales. However, the game is programmed in XNA (Microsoft proprietary development tools), so you can imagine how it would be hard to program the server for any other platform.

    3. Currently the server is being hosted on my friend's computer (the person whom I would promote to division leader of the division if it ever became official). Although the uptime has been 100% so far afaik, the service will be affected by internet/power outages in his area. The number of players able to connect simultaneously will be limited by his upstream bandwidth. Due to the fact that he is hosting the server, I have very little control over it. I'm debating hosting the server locally, but alas, my upstream bandwidth is not fantastic, either.

Despite all of this, the game is incredibly fun. I do not really blame the developer for the missing features, as the game is only a month old. Feature-packed updates are released frequently (around 6 days on average...lately it's been 8-10 days) and I predict that issues #1 and #2 will likely be addressed soon by the dev.

If you're interested in early access to our Terraria server, contact me via the usual methods. I'll warn you though...if I don't know you very well, you probably won't be (immediately?) granted access. We already had a couple of griefers before the server was password-protected. We'll probably get tMod up and running, at which point I'll loosen up a bit.

That's fine, but I'm not too sure why it's the opposite of what you wanted. Perhaps edit your original post to better describe your needs, so that server admins/members can better help you find a server?

I really dont want a bunch of people from those popular servers coming and inviting me to join it, id rather be on a server with 5-8 people.

Our (multi-game) community isn't really that big yet. It's less than one month old. Just because the MCForums post is well written and we have a nice website/ventrilo server/MC server doesn't mean we're "popular" (although I hope to be in the future).

Ill be partners with people too for adventure/survival/puzzle maps. The thing is ill be happy to help everyone its just im gonna go down the list.

Adventure - I'm adding RPG elements to the server soon
Survival - There's a survival aspect to the server...players can choose to play survival, and permissions are given accordingly.
Puzzle - I plan on adding the "PortalStick" bukkit mod (attemps to mimic the video game Portal) and creative an "Aperture Center" of sorts. I have a few other puzzle-type ideas that I haven't settled on.

soo you better comment as fast as possible

This is the type of comment that encourages server members/owners to not "comment as fast as possible." This comment, paired with your rather non-descriptive OP may explain why you haven't received any replies other than from me yet.

Best of luck finding a sever.

    New Changes:

-Fixed a critical issue with Permissions.

    New Bugs:

-Sometimes, (usually single) chunk(s) fail to load, leaving huge bedrock-to-skybox holes in the ground. According to the Minecraft version history, this is a bug introduced in 1.6.5 that has not been fixed by Notch yet. I am going to investigate this matter further until I am certain that there is nothing that I can do to fix it (other than rolling back to an earlier server version).

If you get stuck in one of these holes, it's pretty hard to get out, as you fall and then teleport back up in an infinite loop. The following commands may help you get unstuck: /suicide, /spawn, /home (if you have a home set), and /tpa (if there are players online).

This issue seems to happen most frequently when the server is performing large chunk rendering operations (e.g. lengthy (fast) travel in a Minecart in one direction, teleporting, dying/respawing, etc). To avoid this bug, try to avoid those things as much as possible. Logging out and back in also usually fixes this issue.

    Coming soon:

    -NPCs and an RPG system.
-A way for players to fly (especially critical with this current chunk glitch). I may re-introduce MagicCarpet, as it's been updated since we last used it. Alternatively (or perhaps additionally), I'm considering allowing the use of Zombe's flymod to an extent.
-MineMart will be fixed and re-opened whenever there is enough demand from the Creative players. I'm considering using a system that's a little easier to set up (e.g. not 100 chests)...but that subtracts from the "cool-factor."

My friend and I are looking for a server to join. This will be our first time playing multiplayer, but we are each fairly experienced.

We want a small vanilla server (except for mods used to help run the server if necessary) that is pretty new. We do not want any limits set on how much land we can build on/dig up. It would be great if it has PvP turned off and if it is on peaceful, easy, or normal difficulty (We don't absolutely need those last 2 things, though). Also, like many others, we don't want any griefers on the server. I apologise if this is too specific, we are not sure how personalized we can get when it comes to servers not owned by us.

We'd love to have you at Legaia.

-Item Spawning: Yes. Optional (permissions based)
-CraftBook: We have Falsebook, which IMO, is an improvement (the IC signs I needed were broke in CraftBook)
-A place for me and my friend to help: We'd love to have you!
    -LAG FREE!!!!!: Lag is minimal.
-Preferably Starting: Server has been public for less than a month.
-Roleplaying: I do not participate in RP currently, but I don't have anything against it. I will soon be incorporating NPCs and a RPG system (quests, leveling, etc).
-ORGANIZED (The owner knows what he wants): I consider myself to be highly organized. I currently run a gaming community that consists of Minecraft and APB Reloaded. Along with that comes server maintenance, website maintenance, Ventrilo administration, etc.
-Preferably no Restarting a bunch: Restarts are minimal. They usually only occur with any frequency when changing craftbukkit versions or adding/configuring new plugins for your enjoyment.
-VoIP! (It makes communication easier): Yes, we have a vent server

If you're interested, I'd like to direct you here and here. Look forward to seeing you!

Last night, the OneGamer Minecraft server, Legaia, was updated to version 1.6.6. This means that users wanting to play on our server will need to upgrade their client version to 1.6.6 as well. Performance is excellent so far after the change. I will be watching the server closely for bugs and take care of them as they appear, although there haven't been any yet. I'm still currently in the process of testing all of the plugins to see if everything is working as it was on 1.5_01.

OneGamer is now using Multicraft to manage our Minecraft server. This change brings a few nice features for everyone. You can now see the users connected to Legaia and chat with them, right from the OneGamer website, by clicking here. You may notice that when chatting with users via the web interface, your name appears as "Guest." You can solve this problem by creating a OneGamer Multicraft account here. The email address does not have to be valid. To avoid confusion, when registering your Multicraft account, please have your username match your Minecraft username.

I'm pleased to announce that OneGamer now has an official Twitter and Facebook. Please support us by following us on Twitter and/or liking us on Facebook. Our Twitter and Facebook are configured to automatically pull news articles from OneGamer and display them, making it easy to stay informed. I'm debating syndicating articles from the Downloads and Media sections as well.

Important: There is a new policy for applying to become a member of OneGamer/Legaia, please read the updated OP and this page. To apply, click here.

As mentioned earlier elsewhere, public user registration at OneGamer has been disabled for privacy reasons. Having an account on the OneGamer website has many benefits, including being able to read/write in the private areas of our forums. If you are not yet a member and would like an account, please apply to become a member of OneGamer here. If you are an existing member of OneGamer, please contact mjhasbach/Musicgen at admin(at)onegamer.info so that I can create an account for you.

I'd like to remind readers that there are still staff positions available in the Minecraft division. I could really use some help running the Minecraft server.

Edit 1: How do you get minecraft to go back a version?

Hey Spason! It's been a while.

I plan on updating Legaia to Minecraft 1.6 tonight, so give me a couple of hours before you try the steps below.

Give Minecraft Version Changer a try, it looks promising. You will want to select the 1.5_01 option within the program. If that doesn't work...

Minecraft does not have a built-in feature to rollback to an earlier version. To return to 1.5_01, you will need to delete the following folder:

    C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\
Note that this will erase your singleplayer world saves! Back up the \.minecraft\saves\ folder if you want to keep them.

You will then need to seek a download for Minecraft 1.5_01. IIRC, it is against Notch's terms to redistribute Minecraft, but download links can easily be found on Google. It's probably against the Minecraft Forums terms to share a download link to 1.5_01 here. Good luck!

Glad to hear you're interested in APB. We'd love to have you in the APB division. Keep in mind when you're creating your character that the OneGamer clan is located on the US East (Joker) server. If you create your character on a different server, you will not be able to play with us. Also, at the moment, we're criminal-only. An enforcer division will be coming soon.

I'd love to have you as a staff member for the Minecraft division if you become active. It's becoming increasingly difficult to manage the server (as a whole), the website, Minecraft server, Ventrilo server, and the APB division, especially considering the fact that the member-count of the APB division has been steadily increasing this past week.

Hey everyone, I would like to apologize for my lack of correspondence lately; the past two weeks have been fairly hectic. There were some issues configuring the new server that took some time to iron out...you can read about it here. That being said, I'm proud to announce that...

The onegamer.info website is now live!
    and
Legaia is now located on a more powerful server!
    and
APB Reloaded has been added to the list of OneGamer divisions!

The opening of the APB Divison means that I will have to (try to) ration my free time equally between Minecraft and APB. This means that I am now looking for responsible, mature, friendly, active staff members to help me run the Minecraft division. If you are interested, please contact me here on Minecraft Forums, in Minecraft, on Vent, or at admin<at>onegamer.info (replace the <at> with @ :tongue.gif:). If you're contacting me via email, provide another way that I can contact you...I'm not sure how mainstream mail providers (gmail, hotmail, etc) are going to deal with incoming mail from onegamer.info, as it is a fairly new domain.

At this time, please do not try to register an account on the onegamer.info website, it will be deleted. I am (soon) going to make account activation manual so that only "clan" members will have accounts. This helps minimize confusion and prevent forum spam.

I'd like to remind everyone that your client version still needs to be 1.5_01 in order to connect to OneGamer. The change to 1.6.x will be coming soon (I hope), when all the the CB plugins that Legaia depends on are updated.

Expect a lot of new things to be implemented in Legaia soon, now that I have more resources at my disposal. I'm also debating putting the Minecraft server on a ramdisk for even greater performance gains.

OP will be updated to reflect these changes.

I've never used nmon before, but I installed it and viewed the stats for a while. I did notice this, which seemed troubling:

Also, I think the Disk I/O portion of the utility may be "broken." This information remained static, even when I copied a file from my server to my desktop via SSH:

Anyway, here's an excerpt from an email I sent VolumeDrive. It may be of interest:

For whatever reason, hdparm isn't working on my VPS, so I conducted a rather primitive HDD test with rsync (copying a 1Gb file). Here are the results.

    # rsync --verbose --progress --stats /minecraft/test.bin --recursive --times --perms /minecraft/asdf/
    sending incremental file list
    test.bin

    sent 1000122143 bytes received 31 bytes 10812131.61 bytes/sec
total size is 1000000000 speedup is 1.00

As you can see, the average write speed is 10.40MB/s. At some points, it dipped down to ~2MB/s, which is abysmal.

For testing purposes, I enabled /dev/shm in /etc/fstab in order to create a ramdisk (and then rebooted the server). After the files were copied over, I started the server and still received "Read Timed Out" errors, which may mean that the ramdisk was swapping with the HDD. If this is the case, it means that I am not getting the RAM that I am paying for.

The file system is reiserfs. I don't think there's much I can do about this, being that it is a VPS. I did some quick googling, and there doesn't appear to be any complaints about poor performance when running minecraft on reiserfs.

I not sure that a RAID array (or at least a dedicated RAID array) is really an option for me, either, being that I'm on a VPS node.
