Jul 24, 2011minergirl posted a message on 1.8 Updates: Bosses, Biomes and Morei am really GLAD about more defined biome edges, i spend HOURS making them 'tidy' in my worlds and it pisses me off... ive even gone so far as to set up huge sandstone walls around the desert areas and i think it looks sexy. CANT WAIT even more now!Posted in: News

I am so hooked ^^
Anyways, one of the first things i tried to do was see how far the world went, after going for about an hour in one direction and finding no end i decided to google it and discovered that there is no end lol. Anyway, now my world is 35 meg, but my main question is; is it any harder on my computer (processor/ram/etc) to have a big world, or does it just take more room on the HDD to store it and thats all?
I ask because my computer shut down in the middle of playing once ( i am pretty sure it overheated ) it then did it 3 more times that day, granted it was a hot day (its getting warm here in australia) i put on the temp monitor and watched one of my cores go from 28 up to 66 degrees C when i loaded up minecraft. I opened up my computer and aimed a fan in there and it hasnt happened since.
I just want to know if its extra tax on my computer to have such a large world, i'd like to explore further, but i dont know if its safe.
I have 4gig of ram and i5 cpu and radeon 4870 vid card. I know its not a space age computer but i wouldnt think it would need to work so hard to play this game. I do have the render distance set to far, once i started like that it was hard for me not to have it that far, ive been spoiled by it and i get so annoyed if i turn it down.
edit: 55 was typo, it went to 66 degrees. with the fan on my comp its running at 52.
