If MC just quits, the most likely option you are facing is a mod incompatibility. If the server requires a mod that you don't have (BC2, IC2, EE2, etc), you will not be able to join the server, and Minecraft may very well just quit on you. It is also POSSIBLE, yet unlikely, that either the server or your client is outdated, as this usually does give you an error message. However if it is a vanilla server, and you are running a vanilla client, tell the admin to look for your (playername).dat file in the server folder and delete it.

@GmZ, I currently have Norton360 and have run a full system scan twice. It hasn't found anything. I"m thinking the problem isn't so much with malware/viruses, but just an honest mistake in migration.

I bought Minecraft back in October of 2010, so about 2 years ago. Yesterday, I was on the MineTV server, when I was randomly logged out, and my Minecraft launcher randomly closed. Seeing as Minecraft does often crash for me, I thought it was just a bug or something on my part.
Lone behold, when I tried to log back in, I got an error message 'Account Migrated, use e-mail as username' so I tried to use my email that I'm currently using (mattm******@gmail.com). However, I got an, "Error, user not premium" message. Confused by this, I log on to minecraft.net and try to see all the accounts associated with my email address and get the result 'ZombiePigman95' which is an account that I created as an alternate about a year ago.
Seeing as that email didn't come up saying that I owned the username matt9522, I decided that I would try the email address that I used to originally sign up for minecraft.net with (Cheeseburgerdude****@yahoo.com). However this time, I got an error that read "Unknown email address or password." When I click the 'Forgot password" link, and enter my email address, it says Success! We have sent you instructions on how to reset your password." However, I never get these emails. I have tried refreshing my inbox, checking my spam box, and every other box I have. I have waited about 48 hours for one of these emails, and I have tried re-sending them more than once.
If anybody has any information as to what is going on, please let me know. I've been playing this game for about 2 years now, and I really don't want to have to stop playing it now because of a stupid migration error.
I would double check these steps, as I have had the same problems before:
1. Be sure you are port forwarding to your IPv4 address.
a. To find this open command prompt
b. Type in 'ipconfig'
c. Look for the heading 'Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection'
d. Use the IPv4 listed there
2. Make sure you are port forwarded to the port listed in the server.properties
a. This can be found in (Your server Folder)\server.properties
3. Make sure you are telling your friend to connect to your external IP address, not the IPv4
a. This can be found at http://www.whatismyip.com/
4. Check to see if your external IP and port is open, not the IPv4
a. You can check this at http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
b. Make sure to change the port to the port listed in server.properties
5. If this is still not working, PM me to add me on skype, and I can take a look through screenshare to see if there is anything either of us may have missed.
