posted a message on Diamond armors not existing anymore on zombies?

I've been playing since 1.8 and I've never seen either a zombie or skeleton wearing any diamond armour nor has any ever appeared in my mob grinders.

Although it sounds good in principle to have an infinite source of diamond armour, it's rather pointless now that we have Mending. I've been wearing the same armour for ages. I've only ever used two sets since Mending became available - I fell into some lava once and didn't get out quickly enough.

I never liked mining so Mending has been a huge boon.

Post a picture and tell us if this is survival, single or multiplayer and whether you are using any mods. It must be something fairly simple.

It works for me too. I placed one upper half slab and one lower over a double chest and it opened fine.

Has anyone ever seen one who hasn't farmed them?

I've never seen one and I don't really expect to unless I build a charged creeper farm.

posted a message on Navigating The End's outer islands

Of all of the bits of Minecraft I have played, I enjoyed exploring the End cities on foot the least. It was utterly tedious and it took me absolutely ages to find an End city with a ship.

Once you have Elytra it's easy and even fun. Without them, it's less enjoyable than watching paint dry. I have never felt more inclined to cheat since I started playing (I didn't). It is worth persisting. Elytra (plus rocket propulsion) are probably the single best thing ever to have been invented (in Minecraft at least).

posted a message on My main world is corrupt

I didn't have time during the week to do anything about this but now I've managed to fire up my Windows machine (and install a million updates, virus definitions etc.) and install mcedit.

My corrupt world opens in mcedit fine. I have very little idea what I am doing with this but since I have a backup that isn't too old, I shall simply try to copy the relevant bits from my damaged world to the most recent backup. It's a fairly large pain since I have never used mcedit and it's pretty slow on my old laptop but this should be doable so thank you for the suggestions.

Thank you, I shall have a look at MCEdit. I don't normally use a Windows PC although I do have a Windows 10 laptop that I use about twice a year. I shall dig that out.

If it doesn't work quickly though, it's probably less effort to re-create what I lost in creative mode. The only other occasion I cheated anything in was when a guardian glitched between glass blocks and killed me while I was AFK and I lost a whole stack of sponges, which weren't easy to acquire. Clearing the ocean will still probably take me a couple of hours and the same for re-creating my wither skeleton farm but at least I know doing that will definitely work.

It's a bit of a pain in the **** but it serves me right for not keeping a backup. I used to backup every couple of days but my world is 5GB and it's a bit slow so I got out of the habit of doing it.

    [Edit]

I'd just like to point out that those asterisks are not mine. I have no idea why I cannot say ****, since it's a proper English word that I would quite happily say in front of a five year old child or my granny but it has clearly transgressed some stupid rule.

posted a message on My main world is corrupt

My main survival world has become corrupted and my most recent backup is three weeks old (I know, I know).

I know the trick of copying the level.dat etc. files but that hasn't helped. Every time I get near my base (which is in my spawn chunks - this may or may not be a coincidence), Minecraft crashes. So far, going elsewhere has been fine. I was nowhere near my base when the save was corrupted.

The problem with this is that 90% of what I have done that I care about is at my original base.

I have a backup but this is missing a couple of things I care about. I built a wither skeleton farm (I'd already slabbed the area some time ago so at least I haven't lost that - that took me weeks) which I was really pleased with. I don't actually need the wither skulls as I have several stacks of them but I was chuffed with how well it worked. I had also cleared a large area of ocean and was building a (so far rather unsuccessful) creeper farm. The farm was nothing to write home about but it takes ages to clear ocean, even with sponges.

Is there any way I can splice the two saves together somehow or is my only practical option to use my backup and try to cheat the missing projects back in. I wouldn't regard that as cheating as I've already done the work and it's not my fault it was corrupted but it's still a lot of work.

posted a message on Ways to stop spiders spawning

    Thank you for the suggestions.

I tested these in my spider test world. The path blocks and fence posts both failed to prevent spider spawning (with a block in the corner of each 3x3 square) but the cobblestone wall did. The fact that cobblestone wall and fences are different surprises me but as soon as I replaced the cobblestone walls with fences, spiders started spawning immediately.

It looks like a flushing farm should work well. I have to admit that I'm slightly disappointed not to have found something that doesn't stick to slime blocks. I've just finished a wither skeleton farm that I've been playing around with for ages but never really satisfied with it. I installed sweeping arms made out of observer block flying machines and it works really well. I've made lots of flushing farms (because it's a very effective mechanism) and I'd like to try something a bit different.

posted a message on One feature I hate.

I'd test this but I've been 16,000 blocks from the origin in my world and still haven't found a jungle.

Get yourself some elytra and fly around. A jungle was the second to last biome I found, with ice spikes being the last. Since I got myself some elytra, I've seen loads of both (and mesas, which are also quite rare).

    Quote from misselena»

It was so satisfying when the dragon died 😛

I felt slightly guilty. I like dragons and I only killed her because once you are in the End, it's you or her.

I wish I could have tamed her and flown her around the overworld. That would have been pretty cool.

posted a message on Does anyone here actually build roads? XD

As far as I am concerned, elytra have completely superseded all other forms of travel other than for the very shortest distances. Apart from anything, flying is great fun.

I learnt how to use a bow to boost flight but that was a real pain in the bum. Now we can use rockets (which are very cheap to make), flying is pretty much without any disadvantages at all.

Rocket powered elytra flight is the single best update ever. I'm a big fan.

I haven't seen that so I shall have a look but I did try using cats but it didn't work very well. For some reason the creepers weren't reliably afraid of the cats.

While I was building the test farm, I made an AFK station that was accessible from the farm and made one of my cats sit by my feet. I got blown up several times by bold creepers that didn't seem at all bothered about the cat.

posted a message on Ways to stop spiders spawning

I am trying to build a creeper only farm.

If I build my spawning area two blocks high with trapdoors on the ceiling, most other mobs (skeletons, witches, endermen, zombies) won't spawn. However, spiders do still spawn and they are annoying.

If I put a carpet down in the corner square of every 3x3 area of floor, that does stop spiders spawning but I was intending to use a flying machine to sweep the creepers to their doom and the carpet stops the machine. It would also mean I couldn't wash the creepers away as the carpets would also wash away.

I tried half slabs but that didn't prevent spiders spawning.

Does anyone have a suggestion of something that will not stick to a slime block that I could use to prevent spiders spawning?
