Is it me or did they reduce the number of coral reefs world generation in this update?

Don't know if just me. I made the update from 18w32a to 18w33a and had to revert on our server. A LOT of mob spawning at day time. They spawn and start burning. Slime spawning everwhere! A mess. Was fun tho.
There were several bugs reported. Mobs spawn in daylight. Mobs spawn when going from peaceful to any other mode. Mobs spawn in lighted areas. etc.

Give 100 people this test with no explanation or further description , "Choose one of these options. [ ] No Change or [ ] Change".
The results would be 50 / 50. I don't know it for a fact, I just know it's true.
I've always been in the "Change" camp with the core belief that "change is inevitable, embrace it". But I also understand resistance to change; it's difficult, uncomfortable, and requires some effort to adapt.
Mojang has been changing things since it started and are obviously in the [ ] Change camp. They realize that the opposite of change is death. It would require little effort to provide a "legacy" resource pack option, and if they do not, third party pack will almost instantly become available. My guess is they will not want to maintain the older pack (understandable) and will just drop it allow the community to fill the gap.
For the purist out there, don't fret or get too upset. Someone will provide an alternative. Embrace the change when it arrives and allow your eyes and head a chance to adapt. I predict that after using it for a while, most "No Change" advocates will have a hard time going back to "Legacy". -

Most people don't like change. I love change. I also seriously respect others that don't.
Mojang could easily provide BOTH texture pack options. Classic, Better, WayBetterx32, Bestx64
Before you flame me, Of course they don't have to use these names, they are for demonstration only.
How many flavors of Coke and Pepsi are out there. That way everyone can have a chance to get used to to the new one and go back to classic if they wish. I suspect once a few YouTubers embrace the new one and people see how much better it actually looks overall, there will be a slow mass migration.
I say give players a choice. If you agree, please say so.

Great machine. I'm thinking of incorporating an item sorter for cobble and smooth stone to compact my bulk storage system for those blocks
One problem. If the dispenser holding the Shulker Boxes is full, the comparator is already outputting 15. So, when the repeater attempts to tiger the redstone in front of the observer block, nothing happens, because it's already at full power. If you have a solution, do let us know.

What a tool shed.
Part 1. I agree with... time for Mojang to finish the API.
Part 2. You have no idea what your talking about. Mojang has been giving Bukkit developers the finger to more than 2 years. They secretly bought Bukkit, hiring 4 of the developers and allowed Open Source contributions to continue while keeping everyone in the dark. In the meantime they developed there own paid server platform called Realms. On one hand Mojang did not complain that part of there code base we being used by Bukkit. On the other hand they did not let people know that they were contributing free labor to a product that they owned.
Going forward. The volunteer Bukkit staff has largely resigned, I can't blame them. Many are working to on something new. Mojang can re-write all of the open source stuff in house, they have the staff now, assuming they ever stop focusing new sources of food and can provide a stable API instead. -

First Great Job guys, can't wait for the next one... and don't want to dampen any holiday spirits.
However, the new xBox version scrambles the bioms on existing worlds. My favorite word is now 75% snow covered. Why would it be snowing in the desert???
This particular world had a 12 position rail station with structures all over it so I'm deeply disappointed to see all this snow. If you guys had introduced seasons, that could be cool, but it's literally too cool and the world is now basically unplayable.
I wish you would add a feature to the random seed generator that would allow you to limit the max size of any particular biom to some value (like under 50%.). More than once, I've had it generate an entire worlds as 95% water or desert.
One other tweak for some future version, when you place painting do't select them randomly, cycle through them one by one so I know I can get to the one i really want eventually.
Again Great Job, Take some time off and drink some holiday cheer. - To post a comment, please login.

I am creating an food / XP grinder at my spawn that will spawn food animals from mob spawners, inside a restricted area. I want to limit how many of each can spawn at a time.
If I could always make the animal spawn (and not move) in the same location, then I can use/change minecrafts entity cramming to rule limit how many spawn.
Is there a plugin or is there a way to do this with command blocks?

Is there a way to get the block distribution list created by //distr to export as a text file or to output to the log files?
What I'm trying to do is find the approximate distribution of blocks in SkyGrid so I can determine and set relative block values in Essentials worth.yml

You are correct the launcher is a C++ application. The Win10 version does not actually have a seperate launcher, is just a menu/options screen built directly into the game. The [Play] button allows you to Manage Worlds, Add Friends, and Connect to Servers. Manage Worlds allows you to create your own world and play it as single player or multiplayer, add options like resource packs and behavior packs (plugins maybe?) that you can buy.
So in just a few mouse clicks you can be up and running with your own server private and invite players to join, including console players. Or you can create a Realms server and make it public or private. The public servers already on the list look remarkably like some of the large Java based servers that host multiple worlds with different server modes and minigames.
I started playing Minecraft on the XBox MC version equivalent to 1.4 and switched to the PC version after about 6 months. NEW MC players that come from the XBox are unlikely to take that same path, but instead move up to Win10. Where they can still play with their friends, have built in chat, friends list, and many of the benefits of the Java Edition in an easier to use package.
There was nothing listed under the behavior packs page, so that is likely an indication of things to come. So the original question, will Win10 ever connect to Java Edition? I've changed my mind and say probably not. Will the Java Edition ever connect to Win10 servers? Maybe, but I think it's more likely that the Java Edition will gain Win10 like features as long as MS can see a way to monetize those features.

However, Win10 is currently intimately tied to the Xbox system, requiring a Microsoft account and does not use Mojang's account validation system. Realizing that, I've re-consider how all of this will unfold. Mojang databases would have to be somehow merged into account.microsoft.com. With MS's high concern for security and the ongoing hackability of MC Java, I don't see that happening.
I may have to change my vote, on that point alone.

Mojang is just doing what it has always done, evolving the game. That is never going to stop. Embrace the change. You will feel better.

I agree with a lot of what you said.
I feel Microsoft is already thinking ahead as to how to monetize the Java version the way it has with the C++ version and that has the potential to bring a lot of good things. Most good things are not free, and I'm ok with that.
I don't think they are so stupid as to kill all the Java edition servers out there, but I suspect we may see Win10 like features creep into the Java Edition. The new Crafting Table and Observer block is an example of how the console version is already having an impact.
IMHO the Microsoft effort to unify all the console versions into 1 code base and the push to add "shaders" and other features directly into that code base points to the direction they are taking at Minecraft. I think better integration into the Java Edition is inevitable, and predict that you will see the launcher replaced in the next 18 months with one that has some of the Win10 features and may even be written in C++ instead of Java.

Interesting discussion. Some of it I agree with, some, not so much. Minecraft will find a way to make more money on the Java Edition. It's a corporation, it's what they do. That doesn't have to be a bad thing. let me explain.
Java plugin and module makers are falling by the wayside. They don't really make any money and so over time, they lose interest and move on and there work goes unsupported. The ones that are able to make a few bucks, last longer. In the end only the obsessively passionate and the ones making a living will remain. Whats a player to do? Java edition player can either stay on an older version of Minecraft or give up their mods and plugins to stay current.
Enter M$. They would like to make money so how do they get DLC into the hands of the Java Edition.
1. Build content distribution into the Minecraft launcher or game (duplicating the efforts of the the C++ based group) OR
2. Find a way to make them talk to each other.
Microsoft does not have to "control" servers to make that happen. They do have to enforce vanilla gameplay when connected to a non PC based game. Vanilla servers are already built into minecraft so you can start a singleplayer world and then invite your xbox friends to play or join there game.
The C++ players will never be able to play on spigot/bukkit/sponge/bungee or any other non vanilla server, but Java players could play in "vanilla" mode hosting or connected to a console base server if the translation layer were added and the games were all running the same "underlying update".
They could then make the console content available (DLC) resource packs and maps available and make the $ they need. HardCore players are NEVER going to adopt the Win10 version, but they might be persuaded to play on the console based network.

While there wasn't much lag before, I built and migrated KiqsRocks to a new Dell rack server, capable of running multiple minecraft servers on the same machine. It's a beast. What does that mean to you? It means a better gaming experience and lets us add more playing options in the near future.
Come join a great growing community and build something amazing.

The fact that the game engines are different is not an impediment to online compatibility; Ford's and Toyota's have different engines, but both are able to use the road. The underlying communication protocols are different, so, there and would need to be a translation layer added.
Microsoft would have to have an $ incentive $ to make that happen. I would argue that the huge Java base is a large untapped market that could be opened up with such a translation layer.
MS/Mojang needs to find a way to add some of the new console content to the Java edition. A couple million people might pay $1 each for optional texture packs and pre-built maps. Content they have already created and have been selling for a few years now.
I know it would be difficult, but they have the resources to do it if they can find the right motivation.

Short Answer: NO.
Long Answer: Minecraft has been changing every few months for 8 years now. Without change, it would have faded long ago. The biggest changes to the game aren't even happening inside the PC / Java version at all.

If you haven't run the Win 10 version lately, maybe you should take a look. This is the unified "Better Together" version and there's a LOT going on here that Java Edition players may not be aware of.
The only thing keeping them from being able to connect is the will power to make it happen. So what do you think?
0
First, This is about Money (that's not necessarily a bad thing) ; let me explain.
Every version of Minecraft that is not the Java Edition is written in C+. The language that Microsoft uses for nearly everything.
Java's original reason for existing is that it was cross platform compatible. Microsoft has proved that C+ is equally cross platform compatible, especially now that they have worked so hard to unify the code base so the same version is running everywhere... except... on the PC. But wait they have the Windows 10 version too. Why do you think that is?
They have announced that an upcoming version of the C edition will have basicly a built in shader (moving water, reflections, shadows, wind). Microsoft Studios has enormous experience with 3D rendering engines. When you consider that then 1.12.x Java edition STILL has lighting bugs after all these years, you have to see where this is headed.
The Xbox version has always lagged more than a year behind the PC version, Now with unified C+ source code in hand that is no longer true and features have begun to show up there first.
I think the guys at Mojang would be justified in being a little worried except for the Java player base is so huge. However, mod development by third parties developers have fallen off dramatically since 1.8. Even though it's taking very little time for Servers like Spigot and Sponge to issued new versions now, many of our favorite plugins have been abandoned by the authors. People just won't work for free forever. The Community is still great but it's not what it was. I promise, Microsoft sees this trend too.
The branding of the PC version as the Java Edition, is to distinguish it from the Windows 10 C+ Edition.(Soon to be rebranded too) It's the one that lets you play on a PC with your XBox and Playstation friends. Microsoft is providing downloadable content (like every other game in the world) some free, some for a modest charge. If you can make a texture pack and charge 1$ to a Million users, that's gravy man like 98% profit. It's been hard for the Java Edition to monetize the game in this way.
Like I said, this is about Money. MS has to make back that 2 billion dollars somehow and converting Java Edition players to Win 10 players seems like a logical way to do that. Some day soon, the Java edition will be playing catch up to a really good C+ version with built in voice channels, better rendering engine and graphics, fewer bugs and an array of cheap add on content.

You are not understanding the suggestion. An observer detects a change in state. if it detects a pumpkin growing you get a pulse, if it detects the pumpkin breaking you get a pulse.
However, it you are watching any kind of redstone signal (like from a clock circuit) you get a pulse when it goes on and a pulse when it goes off. So you are detecting both the leading edge, (redstone on) and trailing edge (redstone off). This doubling of the signal limits the usefulness of the observer block. and makes you have to add additional circuitry to compensate.
Nowhere in my suggestion did I talk about the length of the pulse. It's a 1 tick pulse and that's fine. I want control over "What it's observing" I don't want to adjust the length of the pulse, or the output strength. That what repeaters do.
I want to select observing the ON/OFF state or the ON state or the OFF state. If I'm observing something like a block update from a melon growing the default way the observer block works is fine. But if I'm observing a redstone torch or dust or repeater or any other redstone device, I want to be get a single pulse when the signal goes on (leading edge) OR a single pulse when it goes off (trailing edge) OR both on/off and get 2 pulses which is the way it works now.
I don't want to change the output, I want to select the type of input. On/Off, On, or Off
