No cheating here, grindy tasks are part of big or complicated builds. It's sort of like knitting for me, and I don't mind the repetition. It comes with the feeling of a job well done when complete.

The potato and carrot farms are Nathan Ryan's improvements to Unarybits villager farms. Basically, villagers can 'see' crops within a certain distance and these farms provide the maximum efficiency for how far they can sense the crops. Unarybit tested it quite a bit and found that multiple farmers actually decreased the efficiency because they would interfere with each other- causing them to focus on each other, or get in the way going back to the hungry villager spot to throw food.

Most recent version of our server's villager trading center: fully automated, with a breeder, villager sorter, 6 potato and carrot farms, 8 wheat farms and a pumpkin/melon smasher farm. All storage is via shulker loaders and the boxes are pumped up to the trading center.

We've slabbed the spawn chunks to prevent passive mobs spawning on the grass there. Tons of mobs spawn elsewhere now. It's a big project, but it makes for some great farms using passive mobs elsewhere. For our parrot 'farm' we isolated an area of a jungle and prevented all passive mob spawns in 128 blocks in all directions, then kill what we don't want on the spawning pad.

I'm running 6 of Nathan Ryan's improvements to Unarybit's farms in 1.12.2 and they work perfectly. Things to consider: make sure the pressure plate is centered in a chunk, make sure that the hungry villager cannot catch food, using the trap door to keep him back, make sure he started out with no food at all, using a breeder style that prevents babies from catching food from adults, make sure that the one block that updates with the pressure plate indeed is at light level 7.

Zombie spawned with full diamond armor:
Such low chances of finding one. What's even more interesting is that we caught a second full diamond armor zombie a week later, and this one had enchanted armor. They're both in our server hostile mob zoo. Somewhere there is a breakdown of the chances of finding such a spawned mob, so I consider us very lucky.

We have a long term server, hard mode, vanilla survival, currently in 1.12.2. Our discord invite is in my signature if you'd like to join to ask any questions you have- we have a public server related chat channel. No plugins or an economy, just to note, as some people expect as such. Players find their spot to live, we are not picky about that at all. Get settled in, enjoy some adventuring or personal projects, and if you need inspiration or want to learn some new skills, we always have a running list of community projects that we would love help on!
We're always up for giving tours, just ask in our server channel.

Indeed... I run one. Nothing big or spectacular; but safe and trusted members. Like another responder said... legit vanilla servers get buried under bigger servers because of the forum rules here.... I can't 'bump' our thread because there's too few members, and we would get called out; where larger servers can have Joe, Mike and Sarah bump it one day, and Peter, John and Jake the next, etc. Also, small servers have a low turn-over rate, and don't WANT to actively recruit tonnes of players (hence the 'trusted' community). So their threads get buried. On top of all that, we can't even create a new server thread unless the most recently used thread hasn't been touched for 6 months.... (Yeah; I got nailed for trying to start a 'clean' thread so I could track who applied during a given season).
But my type of server obviously isn't everyone else's; we're a small community, maybe 1-3 people on nightly. But the server's been live and well for over 3 years now with no map resets, no grief events, etc. You can't do 'large' servers that way.... So if you want to be able to log in and see 20 people on at any hour of the day, you're not gonna have much luck finding a good SMP vanilla server that is actively recruiting.
Right. You guys sound quite similar to us. And when we do get people interested, they quickly find out that we're not what they're looking for, at all, since we tend toward high tech, high efficiency automation, long term projects, and everyone works together. So yes, us, too, typically less than a handful on each night.

All you have to do is hunt through the server section a bit. There indeed are vanilla survival, community based servers. They just get buried by the giant servers extremely quickly. Trust me, they're out there.
