Would it be much of a setback to let NPC's realise they can use ladders? and open trap doors? more the ladders then the doors really. its quite annoying to have to build stairs for npcs instead of just making ladders^^ thanks.
I have several NPCs that climb ladders. Have you tried making a path and placing a waypoint at the bottom of the ladder, then a waypoint right at the top?
By the way Noppes, thanks for adding in my request of making an availability switch for XP level. This will add HUGE layers of depth to the World of Humanities, and greatly increase student addiction... I mean motivation... for learning!
I LOVE the mail system. Seems to be working great for me (other than an Edu conflict with student permissions).
Can I make a suggestion? The ability to send an item (or two or three) attached to a mail. This would include mail sent as a quest reward, or triggered by a dialogue.
The current range is currently 10 blocks around the waypoint block. I can make that customizable sure. Its not really necessary to custom it on x,y,z though is it? I think that confuses a lot of people with the redstone block.
No, I would think just having a "range" setting, and then applying that equally to x,y, and z would be perfect (so it's a radius of a sphere, essentially).

Edit villagers with the npc wand
Excellent! The feature I'm most excited about is the location quests, as it opens up a lot of possibilities to quest designers. Is there a certain range you have to be to trigger the quest location? Can that be an editable range?
npc could put up world edit schematic and be able to charge for it.
imagine that a player goes to the builder npc and buy a house in level 1 for 10 emeralds. then plops a default schematic house lvl 1 up on the selected location or a location you mark out after. you could also upgrade the house so the same selected area. so you can get more exclusive houses
Great idea! I hope schematics like that could be incorporated somehow. Placement might be a bit difficult. Maybe a custom block that, when placed, places the center of the schematic?
Hey Noppes, if you're at all interested, I made an updated and more detailed video of my educational world that could only be completed thanks to your mod. I don't know if you'd be interested in adding/replacing it in the OP.
Hey Noppes, I think the mod would look even better with bubble chat above NPC's heads for chat messages (world and interact lines). Just like this mod: http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/chat-bubbles/
But that mod doesn't seem to work with Custom NPCs (no conflicts, it's just that NPCs don't produce chat bubbles). Any way of getting this mod to work that you know of, or any plans to add some chat bubbles into Custom NPCs?
Ofcourse Ill try my best to make it possible to keep the current npcs, but without getting my hands on the forge for 1.7 I cant be sure.
If not Ill probably make an area cloner which well will clone all npcs within an area and also saves their position. Only thing that will be lost then will be items inside the traders with modded items.
OK, phew, that would be much more manageable. Thank you SO much.
The 1.7 update will possibly take a while before its ready. LexManos made a pretty nice post explaining why. I suggest you read it. I suspect that there might be a possiblity that all modded entities, blocks and items might be lost in existing worlds. Just a heads up incase this happens that you all arent surprised. This is caused by minecraft, the forge guys are not to blame for this.
Basically in this update 80% of the code changed and this is done to get ready for the official mod api. In 1.7 block, item and entities will probably not conflict anymore, which would also be the main reason why they would dissapear in existing worlds. Again this isnt a 100% certain until I get my hands on an actuall updated forge, but it can happen.
I suspect forge updates in about 2-3 weeks so it might take a month before I can even start updating. Im probably going to release an update before that, because Ive been working on two new roles the boss and mailman roles and Im almost done with those. Ive also got a bunch of new skins and voices that people submitted which will also be added.
I hope this will inform people enough and again its not certain that all npc will be lost, but I suspect it might happen. Ofcourse Ill make sure all cloned npcs are safe and you wont loose any dialogs and quests either I can guarantee that. If any more information becomes available Ill let you guys know.
Have fun,
~Noppes
Oh god, that is horrendous. I have spent more than 700 hours (literally) on my educational world, and there is no way I could go back and replace every single NPC in the world. No way. I would just simply never, ever update Minecraft past 164. That would be quite unfortunate, but would have to happen.
If you find that this will indeed happen. I would BEG you to make some sort of small tool that would read a map, and convert all entities to the new version numbers. An external tool that would change the numbers in the data files. Surely something like that COULD be possible, right??
Is it really necessary that the AnimalBikes.cfg files on the server and the client match? Couldn't the server one just override the client's version? Because it seems to crash my game if the server's version of the file isn't the exact same as my client's. This seems pretty impractical for server admins to somehow distribute their cfg settings to all potentially connecting clients.
I love your updates, by the way. And my students LOVE your animals as rewards and motivation for their learning in my educational world! The chocobos especially are a big hit with all the girls!
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed (I did a thread search and didn't find it), but I am having problems after updating to 164. I unzipped my old textures zip file into the correct location (minecraft/assets/customnpcs/textures/entity and /cloaks) and all my existing NPCs regained their old textures, thankfully. But the same can't be said for their cloaks.
All the cloaks are purple/black textured because they're linking to an incorrect location for their cloaks by default (minecraft/textures/cloaks, not the /customnpcs/textures location). I have to manually find all my NPCs with cloaks and re-assign their cloaks to the customnpcs/textures/cloaks location. Is there a way to have them all be pointing to the correct location, like their skin files do?Also another question: do those texture files have to be present on the server, or just client-side?
Request: have an availability tag (for quests, redstone block, and dialogue availability) as "level". And it is based off of your Minecraft XP level at the bottom of the screen. It would make some missions (and areas) only open as levels are gained. It would add a whole sense of progression to worlds designed with the mod. It would also make an actual point to acquiring (and keeping) Minecraft XP. Can you do that? It would greatly improve my world.
So glad to hear a beta is released. My World of Humanities that I use for students can't use 162 yet (MinecraftEdu is still 151), so I am not going to try it yet, but as soon as MinecraftEdu is updated to 162, I will.
But I have one major request: PLEASE make some type of system to convert NPC skins from 151 worlds to the new skin system automatically (maybe a conversion file, or at least a way to access the same skins in the new system automatically, if they are placed in a corresponding folder). I have more than 700 NPCs in my world, and trying to find them all to assign their skins again would take FOREVER. Please!

Do conversations just repeat forever if NPCs are not moving and are always near each other?

I would like to hear it explained a bit more. The menu system is a bit confusing for setting who replies to who, and when.
