Here are a few arguments I've seen here and on /r/minecraft, and I'll try and refute them:
But it's cheap! I saw a server online that costs $X!
It's not. Time is one resource, and there are other costs (other than hosting) that come up. Most players will happily consume the server (and we're happy that they are on, because they are indirectly supporting it!) without purchasing a rank, and that's fine. Most server owners and administrators want to give something back for supporting it (even it is for the /fly, kits or whatever).
You can run one from home! It doesn't cost anything!
Unless your paying for really good internet, DDoS protection, or a server that can support more than just a few players.
What about the children who are taking credit cards?
Even disregarding the fact that children shouldn't be taking their parent's credit cards, most server owners are resonable with refunds and payments.
Your selling Mojang assets!!!
Hmm...a <username>.dat isn't property of Mojang? If you say it is, you mine as well say the anything saved using the .psd format is property of Adobe.
I can't restrict the client's ability to render a diamond sword or signal to the server that I wanted to move in a certian direction.
...a bunch of rumors how they'll disable authentication...
They threatened that to some auth system (I think for the technic pack or something like that). No follow through..but even if they did, there'd be plenty of ways to get around it.
This turns in to an game of cat and mouse, and it'd probably be a hell of a list to try and maintain.

I don't see what's so bad about this. Sure you don't get the OP kits with the protection 99999999 Diamond armor and sharpness 99999999 sword, but this brings an advantage to NON donors as they can be the same level as a donor (beides maybe a fancier name and a command like /hat and /me). I personally, as one who can't donate, thinks that this equality EULA change is DEFINITELY helpful.
Sorry, but it'll probably just widen the gap between people who don't purchase stuff and do. You're probably not going to be leveled off as everyone else.
And what is it with capes?
Seriously, are they just trying to off as many sectors of the MC community as they can, because what, they like creating them?
There is a great thing at http://sterlingplays.com/. You should see it if you haven't already.

Thanks for bumping a 4 month old topic.

Oh yeah. I hadn't thought about that. I knew Meq from a minecraft server. I tested this with my localhost server, and it worked fine. I created a pull request on the Github, so hopefully that gets merged and a new build is released soon.

It's just as simple as changing the supported version number. Nothing actually changed with chat.

They actually recently included an anti-spam feature. It didn't really gain public attention and it looks like someone forgot to put in the language translation because it should probably have a different message.
I think there should be like a "spam-protection: false" or "spam-protection: true" in the server.properties file. Kind of like option 2 but not exactly.

You might need to set up port fowarding on your network (search it up on Google if you don't know how)

Didn't realize that....sorry

If people didn't want to cheat and because the minecraft world maximum is very large, they could find some (and they will eventually).

Why? This was the best creative server I have ever played on!

I have a bunch of ideas for Minecraft.
Creative Mode Ideas
I think the ability to pick and choose Monster Spawners (in a Spawners tab, maybe?) will help with map making for people who don't know or don't want to use mods or map editors.
Another idea for creative mode that I would like to see in the game would include the ability to change the time. You'd also be able to lock in the time using creative (or maybe a command like /time lock) in multiplayer.
There should also be another tab with ALL of the items. Not just the normal Creative modes items and blocks, but all of the blocks/items (like Portal Blocks, Water Blocks, Lava Blocks, etc.)
End Portal Frames and End Portals should be added to the Creative mode Misc. area.
Multiplayer Server Ideas:
Have the server be easier to create by using the GUI, like Multiplayer --> Create Server --> Name Your Server --> Whatever --> Whatever --> Whatever
Give instructions on how to connect to a server. Some people don't know how to connect to a Minecraft server.
Separate servers in to sections. If the server that someone types in 'minecraft.server.com' for example, then it goes in to the Internet servers (and maybe All Servers) area but if they type in '192.168.1.3', it goes in to the Local Network servers.
Mods Idea:
Have a .mcmod (that is basically an archive with a different file extension and a readme inside) that opens a program that has the Readme for the mod, and then installs in to minecraft.jar after they have read it. I think this would be an easy way for people that don't know how to install mods.
Those are all of my ideas. Hope you like them and give any suggestions, feedback, critiques in the responses below.
Thanks,
