So updated to 1.3.1 and went to the Nether to gather resources. Tried to come back to the regular world through a portal and fell out of the world Any idea if they're going to fix this anytime soon?
If you want to have emerald ore in your map, go out and find several Extreme Hill biomes that have yet to generate in new chunks. That's where the ore specifically can be mined. As long as you have those chunks generated while the ore is in game and keep the save file, you'll have the ore to mine. That's what I'm doing....
why did people used to care about Lapis Lazuli?
and do people still care about it and if it is still rare why do i have like 2 64 stacks
What can i do with it it seems pointless
Besides the obvious use as a dye, if you make blocks out of it and make a checkerboard pattern using sandstone and the Lapis,,,It makes a great looking floor....Try it
I like this texture pack too. It stays close to the original but it gives you better glass panes, windows and wooden doors with a clear glass so you can see through them well.....
If you read the Wiki, it says that a sapling will grow if - they are exposed to a light level of at least 9 in the block above the sapling, and have at least a certain number of empty blocks, depending on sapling type, above the dirt block it is placed on. Oak and birch saplings need 6 blocks above, while pine saplings need a 7 blocks. However, they will grow slower if they have less than 10 blocks above the dirt.
Your torches are at the same level of the sapling...
Ok...So I didn't know this because nothing was noted in the weekly snapshot when this came out but you can toggle between Survival and the Creative mode on your world by pressing the "B" on your keyboard. When you press "B" your food and health bar go away and you have full access to all the blocks when you bring up your inventory. Pressing "B" again takes you back to Survival mode. Sweet!
I saw my nephew playing it at Easter this year. I was intrigued so I got on youtube, watched Paul Soares and Luclin play and I was hooked. Been playing on several saves with my two daughters since then....
Thanks for posting your reply to this CVGX. I am also a MAC user. I haven't been able to update a texture pack (betterdefault) since early in the fall. Everytime I placed an update in my texture pack folder in MC it wouldn't work and stayed "greyed" out. As a result, many of the new items didn't have a texture and looked like purple blocks. After reading your post, I made the changes you suggested and now after downloading the latest update to this texture pack. IT WORKS! Thanks so much.
Minecraft for me will never be over....for one I will never see the "END" I'm playing on a save I started in 1.5 and unfortunately with the updates of 1.8 my game never spawned any NPC villages, strongholds or abandoned mine shafts so I will never find an end portal to go there. And don't say you have to go to new chucks to spawn them. I did and they didn't. Am I disappointed? Only in the fact that I can't get melon seeds which is the only thing about the mine shafts I really wanted to find.
I will continue to play Minecraft on my old save from 1.5 and on a newer save that has those features but I NEVER intend on going to the "END." I see no point really!
This tutorial will show you how to survive your first night in Minecraft, where bad things come out from the dark and try to eat you. You'll learn what to do in the first few minutes of the game (while the sun is shining) in order to survive the coming night!

Fantastic start to hours and hours and hours of fun.
Either the 1.8 prerelease or the 1.8.1 prerelease was supposed to give older maps (my map is a 1.5 map) structures by turning the structures on in the software code. I have never found an abandoned mineshaft on my world save. I know it has worked on some maps - for example: I downloaded PaulSauresJr's map when he put it up for download. I found an abandoned mineshaft almost immediately. I watch Coestar and Betterspud21 on Youtube and they both have found abandoned mineshafts by traveling far distances.
Why some maps generate them is a mystery but mine unfortunately did NOT. I even used MCMaps to search my entire world for rails (common in mineshafts) and could find only rails I had placed. I too wanted to have melons for my world and after that I wouldn't care if I ever found another mineshaft.
I hope Notch will eventually have them grow wild in the world like pumpkins and then I will hopefully find some somewhere....
All maps before 1.8 are tagged to not generate structures. They won't appear naturally, no matter how far you travel.
Which still won't work if he's playing on a map that was created before 1.8
EDIT:
I stand corrected then. Everything I've read and experienced indicated that the "generate structures" bit was set to "off" on maps created before 1.8. But if you are seeing mineshafts, that would appear to be false. Unless that bit only affects Strongholds and NPC villages? I would have thought mineshafts would be included in that.
One of the updates for 1.8 prerelease set the software code for structures to on. So it IS possible to generate them in a pre 1.8 world.... I have seen it first hand
