Sep 16, 2014jetfox posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.i saw this on youtube hoping to god it was a sick joke, but now i see my worst fear confirmed. microsoft is going to ruin minecraft and before win 8 i was a 100% microsoft supporter, after win 8, xbox 1, and windows live, i now question why i backed this company so much. i am still going to stick with win 7 as my os and any windows period as long as this win 8 crap gets out of their system win 7 is a good os "if it ain't broke don't fix it" goes very well here because the same basic setup has been used since win 95.Posted in: News
but i'm sure mojang has no idea the can of worms about to be opened here. i would love to trust notch but i just can't. -
Dec 25, 2012jetfox posted a message on Breaking News - Modding API Updates!sweet, as for updates i don't mind so much the mod not running so much as loading the game with an outdated mod can completely wreak my save file thing. even big games i have suffer this, not as often. fallout 3 and dao are the worst, a few mods change the game so much that removing them can cause the game to panic.Posted in: News
thankfully in fo3 mods being outdated is highly unlikely as the game hasn't been updated since i got it. skyrim however <_<.
mostly it is mods that add objects almost no interface mods or things like optifine ever have that effect. if nothing else i would like to be sure that i can remove any mod with less damage then now. right now i hardly bother with anything that adds physical objects or that change the terrain generator. or anything i can't safely remove without the dread of save file corruption. -
Sep 8, 2012jetfox posted a message on MCPE 0.4.0 is Out!ha i knew it was odd with mobs in my house dispite it being lit up to see for miles, ok i didn't use that much torches. but i was right, it was a glitch.Posted in: News
creepers! not sure if i should be happy or worried about my structures, anyway the game feels more like minecraft now, if that makes sense.
and chests i was wondering when those would be added, now i don't have to panic when i get some stuff i don't want to risk losing, i can't farm on my map though, not logical at least the only water source is a good walk away.
but the bed seems weird, when i first placed it it warned me of mobs, but i also had it right up against the wall, which the pc version has the nightmare thing if a bed is against the wall. so i moved it it worked fine, next night it warned me again, but i had moved the bed, so i put it dead center of my house in front of a pillar, i use pillars as light fixtures. it worked but next night it did the same thing. i took out the bottom of the pillar and it worked. so it seems the bed has a doesn't like blocks near it problem or moving a block resets it. never had this problem on the pc. -

Anyone that has computer problems , should just quit computers and go be a landscaper.
O_o eh that makes no sense. most of the time it is not my machine with the problems, but the glitch ridden games i put on it. and for dragon age i have tried every fix i could find, nothing helped. even my new graphics card with 2 gig memory helped every other game but that one. i can even run skyrim better, the glitched to hell game that was a bug fest on release day runs better then dragon age. at that point i blame the game not the system.
i can also get pc issues without much effort. pc issues are just a thing that comes with owning a pc. and i don't want to go out of my mind if minecraft turns into a hell trip like da:o is. by now i have given up on da:o because there is no reason i can find that explains why it runs like crap on my pc. -

It's not as bad as you think, and the way it was explained by one of the Mojang crew (I don't remember who, or where) made sense to me. This is Minecraft. Not Fightcraft. Why should you NOT get experience for mining? What is so special about killing a skeleton that gives you the experience to enchant a pickaxe, that you can't also get from using a pickaxe?
But anyway, if that's your criteria, you will be on 1.2.5 for life. Or you'll stop playing. Because they're not changing it back, good or bad.
lol, this is one of the many features i like, heck most of the new features i have been dying to have in the game for years it seems like. i have no idea how this is a bad thing either, i love the new exp methods. and it's not like it comes from cobblestone and dirt. heck half the time in this game is spent mining. as the poster said, 'mine' craft. you only get it from ore which is nowhere near as common as stone. so i completely agree this feature is awesome. it is a pain now to grind exp. i don't have an exp machine. this will make it less of a headache.
my concerns are the technical issues arising, the stutter, lag, etc... it seems to be better on win 7 and a multi-core pc, i have one of those along with a 2 gig graphics card and more then enough ram to burn for even skyrim. and my fallout 3 with a freaking ton of mods.
but still there are people who have pure custom gaming machines, who get issues in games that run fine on mine, and there are others with crappier pcs then mine and can run the game better. it's annoying to say the least. -

I tried 1.3.1 and quickly reverted to 1.2.5. Why?
1. Performance seemed noticeably choppy. Which is ridiculous... I just finished building a brand-new system, which runs previous releases smooth as silk.
2. Viewing distance came up lower than in 1.25. No idea if this is a bug or a feature, but definitely not welcome. (Yes, I know I can meddle with this using various mods. That's not the point.)
3. Most important, when I started digging coal in brand-new world, I started getting experience for it. That was the deal-breaker. Might as well remove the experience system entirely, if you're going to hand out points for digging, walking and breathing.
I've been with Minecraft since way back in the olden days, but this is the first release I've seen that seemed noticeably worse than the one before, in both build quality and feature set. Good thing I made backups. I fear that 1.31 will need a LOT of fixing before I'll be willing to install it again. And even more strongly, I fear that unless Mojang gets its butt in gear and develops a clear vision for the future of Minecraft, few of us will ever make it to version 2.0.0.
i hate to admit it being a long time minecraft fan started a few days before the halloween update, i have come to almost see minecraft as my own virtual world.
but you are more then right, patches had a few problems in the past, but from what i have read, it would be a mistake to update, my apologize to mohjang, but right now i'll just be patient and wait. rushing doesn't help anything, i know from an artist's perspective. quality beats a rush job almost every time. sonic 06 is the best example of a god awful rush job and a half. i don't want minecraft to become like that. -
Aug 8, 2012jetfox posted a message on 1.3.1 is Now Live!i hate to as usual be a skeptic, but for me computer game problems are a hit or miss for me. either a game has problems from day 1 till god knows when. or it doesn't at all. and the latest posts has me a bit worried. i can see that 50% chance the game will run like crap, and 50% it will be awesome. i think i'll wait to see what comes.Posted in: News
i have to many games i fight with to run for a few minutes at best. all of them are now in a separate harddrive partition, and the problems have yet to show any sign of stopping. this was after 2 years of hunting everywhere for a remedy of any kind. i do not want to go through that with minecraft. because the seperated games i have i hardly touch with a ten foot pole anymore. it sucks cause many are favs. heck spending 1k on a new pc for the games is a good enough reason to be cautious. considering the new pc didn't help the games much. it's an awesome machine, but .... -

Aye, but a MMO (to me) is a game that is multiplayer at all times. Asheron's Call comes to mind...
Cynicism aside...
MC has not had an update since 1.2.5 If you're saying that the "snapshots" (or test builds) were buggy...well that was their purpose.
The only problem I can see is lack of communication between the testers (us) and Mojang. Which is why I suggested a playerbase group that could bridge that gap.
I am going to assume this was just a loaded sentence. Because they have added much more than ...emerald.
Again, I do feel bad that you folks can not experience the game now. Since the 1.3 release only issues I have seen are the Nether bug, and water damage. Doesn't mean the other issues are "unimportant" or anything, just that I have not experienced them. Again, that group of players who could talk to Mojang would come in handy...
Two things:
1) I run vanilla, so any modifications I will have no idea if they are sending data via net.
2) Snooper mode should be somewhere under options, I do not remember off hand exactly where. (Options in MC that is)
Well I am neither a big nor small company. I run a personal server that 10 or so folks play on, none have them have "suddenly croaked for no reason"
As a matter of fact, any online (MMO or otherwise) game I have played; never have I "suddenly croaked for no reason". Hell even the current MC release, I die cause the Nether isn't loading properly.
Look into how servers operate, in general. Once you understand the basics, you should be able to find a server that is run properly.
Well, since ye are not the only player of Minecraft I would have to say that suggestion is not too valid. What happens to all the folks that like playing with their friends? They should not get to enjoy a game, because you don't like multiplayer?
Just don't play multiplayer.
And don't open your map up for LAN play...
wow servers always died without warning. then again to me they are a **** company. i played rift for a short while, and it was way more stable.
and i don't play multiplayer, which is why i was conserned. but i hate multiplayer because i have a horrible wifi, mostly on my ps3 and ipod, so online play is a waste. my connection drops out whenever it wants, so even if i knew anyone i could play online with it would be pointless. and nearly all my bad experiences with games were from online games. so i have a bit of an issue with online anything in games.
but anyway as long as my map stays mine i'm happy.
and another poster mentioned core support, i have been wondering if it would ever get that at all. i have a quad core machine, so maybe the stutter is mostly the multi cores, if so then i have to give it a shot at least. and i have more then enough ram for minecraft to eat. -

I just upgraded to 1.3.1, and it seems to be working pretty well so far. I was holding off until I went to the end and beat the dragon in 1.2.5. With that finished, I backed up my worlds and my whole .minecraft folder just in case (in addition to my daily drive backups).
I can't directly compare performance before and after the upgrade because I had Optifine installed on 1.2.5. I had the render distance set to Far +32, and that was averaging around 130 fps. IIRC it was averaging around 300 fps before I installed Optifine. Now on 1.3.1 I'm averaging over 400 fps with the max at well over 600 fps! I can't wait to for Optifine to be updated so that I can set my render distance even greater. For reference I have a 2600K @4.5GHz with a stock GTX580.
Gameplay is fairly smooth for the most part. Sometimes there is a barely perceptible lag when placing torches, opening chests, and the first swing of a pick when mining. I think I only noticed the lag because I was looking for it.
Mobs on the other hand are occasionally a little jumpy, particularly slimes. I'm sure it's a side effect of SSP running a local server now. It's the same glitchy problem I've seen on a lot of SMP videos. It's a little annoying, but I'll deal with it.
Several people stated that they fell into the void when entering or leaving the Nether. I thought I'd give it a shot, though I cleared out my inventory beforehand just in case. I went back and forth between the overworld and the Nether at least a dozen times without trouble. That's really odd that so many people had trouble. The one thing I did notice is that I seemed to fall about half a block each time I emerged from a portal. Maybe it's always been like that and I simply didn't notice until now. Who knows?
120fps, how powerful is your computer? i get 60fps average and that is with a ton of features disabled, but if the game runs better then before, maybe i'll have a less amount of stuttering.
and i'm sure that when going in the nether i never dropped a block or half a block, unless my portal spawned one block higher then the ground level or on the edge of a cliff. so that may be new, doesn't sound game breaking. -

Your map goes nowhere. Your world is only MP if you open it to be such. (yes yes, the client is still running server code. But you are not broadcasting.)
Even if you were broadcasting, the only way a person could "get your map" is if they typed /seed and then copied it. Or if you gave it to them as a DL of course.
The only thing the game does when you "log in" is check to make sure you have an account. It may also get the skin image from minecraft.net, but other than that no more data. Did you make sure you had "snooper mode" disabled? That would be sending a stream to Mojang.
WoW hosts its own servers, Minecraft servers are player hosted (for the most part).
Tis not too fair comparing the two. It's like calling Guild Wars 1 a MMO. Sure you can talk to folks in town, but once you go out to quest you are solo.
So if you want a reliable server, then find a player with a good server setup. As for Mojang, they do not host a dedicated MC server (to my knowledge)
Your map will stay unchanged. Unless you change it.
EDIT--

good, now i can have a bit of peace of mind. i have no clue what 'snooper mode' is so i have no clue if it is off or on. is it a seperate program? because even with control pack and optifine which have settings out the whazzo i have no snooper thing. and it's not on magic launcher my mod manager either. so i can assume for now it is no issue. than again i'm not sure what it is.
and what i mean by server issues, is mostly stability and if a big company like blizz has crap servers, then i doubt any smaller company or less has anything remotely decent. i mostly didn't want to be on minecraft and have it suddenly croak for no reason.
i hate multiplayer in games, online or otherwise, ranks right up with quick time events to me. both are better off removed. so that is my main concern. i started minecraft as a lone wolf and i'll be damned if that changes. but now i know it won't. -

''
Mobs can spawn on flat surfaces (such as up-side-down stairs)
''
That's not nice... We'd need to be able to put torches on those Flat-Surfaces cause we are more likely to place 1/2 block for roof corners so that mobs will never spawn. Now, they will spawn and we can'T even put light to undo that.
dang that sucks, never dawned on me though seeing as most of my houses have flat roofs, only one i have ever built was pitched. i grew up in a flat roof house, so i perfer that design more. but i have to say considering many others build pitched roof houses, man that must suck. my only advice is keep one surface flat for torches. i was not to thrilled when spiders could climb walls, i already had a problem with them partying on my roof, when they learned to climb it made the issue twice as bad. my whole roof is lined with redstone lamps for that problem and i have an attack golem for defense. - To post a comment, please login.

not sure if this has to do with my mods or what, i have 42 when i load up minecraft according to the game, i doubt it is a mod issue but as i use mods i can't just overlook that, mods cause problems in games that is just a thing with mods. but anyway way i normally use magic launcher, but after installing a new one because tinker's construct needed a newer version.
then like before magic launcher couldn't read the new file, it took a heck of a lot of time to get it to run on the last forge i had.
but the issue is the main launcher when i change my skin in the jar file, 'the only way i know to change the offline skin' this works fine with magic, but the default one redownloads the jar file every time i run it, so as i play my character will turn from springtrap to steve, ironically the skin i use has a hat, so when the skin changes it looks like steve with springtrap's head.
minecraft never did this before, so i need a workaround or fix, or fight magic launcher tooth and nail to get it running again.

i used the default textures and it still runs just as bad as my 128 packs.
0
it kept getting blocked by my firewall for no apparent reason, yet i checked everything and it was not blocked. i'll just download like normal, if it ain't broke don't fix it in my case. but the lack of a thread with all linked textures that i can see which is mostly on the front page makes hunting annoying.

183 mods in skyrim, to me that would kill my game, i have about 20 or so with problems. fo3 has about 50+ and can be a crash fest.
but same here, add the shaders and the poor game is brought to it's knees. i have optifine with multicore setting, i have 4 cores it does help a bit but java seems very limited. i don't know java code or any for that matter, so i go from what i see. raising the ram in minecraft never seemed to do much, but i use magic launcher to adjust ram.

yeah i found that one, only on cydia or youtube. the person was hit hard by copyrights, and the game is more different now.
but the ones i mean are like eclipse craft [not the server app] it has pics of minecraft but is a completely different game, and most of the scams use the same concept.
yeah they are, but for me i feel bad for those that fell for the scam, but regardless the reviews are funny. also it is technically art theft as well, and i don't approve, but i know they will never threaten minecraft or mojang. reading all the critic assures that.
0
i'm not angry because the reviews are funny, some get the app just to rant. i wonder why mojang and apple leave them be. more apple to be honest "bigger company bigger consequences" and considering how fast some are taken down i'm shocked to see these scam apps still going.
i have found 10 at least, i can't remember all of their names though. and i'm not going on an attack, just curious.
quick note i'm not refering to the guides, because i know there are a ton. i'm not sure about android's store, as i don't own anything with that os, but i'm sure it has it's share of scams.
i wonder if the reviews are simply amusing and the apps are left for that reason alone.
0
but minecraft has always been an oddball like that. i can run fo3 on high, but minecraft is finiky.
0
it's only a bit out of date, but my anvil disappears with outdated textures. i'll track this to see if it is updated.
0
thankfully in fo3 mods being outdated is highly unlikely as the game hasn't been updated since i got it. skyrim however <_<.

that's not the issue, exactly the problem i get is weird and hard to explain, i have the same problem in fo3, dao, skyrim, and borderlands. it's not a lag like a framerate slowdown, actually the game runs smoothly far more now then it ever did before. the problem i get is over time actions like breaking blocks, gathering items take longer to activate, the fps is unaffected.
i have the same exact issue with dao only far worse and it get so bad that the game crashes after some time. i've run it through every fix i could find, nothing worked even got this pc i'm using and upgraded the graphics card. 1k+ burned to fix it. minecraft has the same issue though far less damaging. i guess i'll just see what the updates bring, it is a new thing added in so i hope in time any issues will improve. dao no longer updates so i'm screwed there.
edit: not a memory leak thank god, it is from logging in i was playing offline earlier because of an error. no lag at all. so it is a server internet related issue. so changing skins just got a bit more annoying basicly. which is the only reason i log in at all. easier skin managing.
is there some offline thing i can change skins with that doesn't require unzipping the jar file?
0
great and i was hoping for some relief from this issue. i feel 2 years of troubleshooting dragon age was more then crazy, it still runs decently but not much improvement. now minecraft i can add to the list of memory leak wars.
i have a partition for my troublemaker games dao, fo3, skyrim. it helps the issue enough to tolerate dealing with said issues, can i move the .minecraft folder to the partition leave a shortcut in it's default location and will it work?
i have done this with steam, a person on youtube helped out. and to be honest in my war with dao he was the only person on the net that actually helped really at all.
so to sum up can minecraft run on a partition with minimal headaches? i'd rather not try it without being sure, i have lost to many maps by now and am not risking this one.

where i break a block and it takes a few seconds to break. items on the ground take a few seconds to go in my inventory. not game breaking but a bit annoying. also a minor thing i made a boat and was able to ride it. but once i got out i couldn't break it with any tool, mainly sword and axe. i also have a habit of jumping out of the boat while it is running into a wall, due to the boat breaking into pieces before the latest patches. so i may just have to not jump out while it's moving now.
my pc is an hp pavilion elite hpe-210y

the whole pc is pretty much stock hardware wise, not over clocked or anything. the only change i have really ever made to the pc itself is the graphics card.
we have dsl ethernet at 750mbs. but we have a business on the same connection with 8 pcs besides mine. so it's is crap, and i can't do squat about it. and i won't screw with any routers or anything because it will hurt or effect the business, which is my brother's.
as for mods, not as much as normal

i have about 15 texture packs, that are all out of date, so i'm using the default right now.

so a forum issue, well at least my devices are ok, which is good seeing as lately apps are being a pain on my ipod touch. the site seems fine on my desktop pc though, which is why i thought it was an apple thing. but i guess it's more of an annoying glitch. but that's computers for ya, never know when problems arise. and the web is technically run on servers so a computer based thing. i wonder if it had something to do with the recent amazon server outage a few days ago. cause the net has been weird after that, not by much but still.

and anvil, repairing weapons awesome. along with new light system sweet. this update looks awesome. i just hope some of my mods are updated.

Then it might be a mac thing, as much as i don't like putting down apple nowadays. Or it could be ios itself, ios seems to have issues with a ton of web related stuff, flash video being a big one. But it's odd because i'm not using the native safari, i use maven a 3rd party app, though it could still run through safari, i'm not sure.
@The_pastmaster: i'm not to familiar with the idevices either to be honest i recently got an ipod touch 4g and my dad got an ipad which i sorta claimed, i'm paying it off now. He got another which my mom took my dad has no luck.
I know enough to run the device and a few other things but i think it is my lack of mac os use, always been a windows user, ios seems more mac-like from what i know from what i read and see. And it's nice to see someone from the spectrum :).
Anyway at least i know it's just the device not the forum, i'm trying to get around to updating, there are a ton of new features i've been dying for in minecraft, but i have a ton of mods, so if i update without most of them i can kiss my map goodbye, but lately i've been hooked on dragon's dogma, that game is addicting.
