Redstone could be used for this too. don't know about the red light output.......
Maybe a craftable item is best way to go about it. With the final version coming out few people are going to want to alter their new worlds cause glowstone or redstone starts to function differently. So maybe the light bulb is better idea?
no to trees turning into mushroom, mushroom do seem to grow on some trees in real. But turning wood to dirt is great idea, just like real life there to0. Need another idea to make mossy cobble, maybe cobble in touch with swamp water could make mossy cobble, since swamp water is full of all kinds of stuff that could be good for spreading growth.
Stainable glass would add a dye to a glass pane, or a glass block to make it a transparent color. Should work with all dyes.
Why,
To make stain glass windows.
To enclose a light source in to make mood lighting.
Understandable that this would mean adding alot of new block cause I'm not sure if java can change the hue of translucents. If it can its a simple add.
No, please dont add more shapes to minecraft, this is what makes it a unique game now. Use mods if you want to change the base of the game, but leave the core ideas of the game alone. half blocks and steps were needed for smooth walking transitions, but other shapes will exist only to change look and feel of the minecraft world and that should never happen in the core game.
Make it so if glowstone is connected to Netherrack it gets powered, or if touching other powered glowstone. Because I think it might be odd to be lacking the coral-like glowstone formations in the Nether, and it would make them difficult to find. That, or somehow make them spawn on, but be placed off. I'd rather the latter solution.
Other than that, I support you 100%.
Have 2 programmed options for glowstone, 1 in nether it is on with no power sources as it draws some kind of power from just existing in the nether, the nether is a unique place after all. But in the normal realm you need to apply power to it to get it to light up.
I think that is very easy to do program wise and makes this a very easy to add feature.
[code]
if block.glowstone.nether then block.emitlight.on
elseif block.glowstone.powered then block.emitlight.on
else block.emitlight.off
[\code]
I agree, I think alot of people are on here do not understand that with a finished game you need stability in the way it works. Any future biomes need to fit onto the world as is now. As in any new underground feature need to be generated into the ground after the world is made, and any new about ground areas need to just adjust the existing land surface and not cut into the land to make fracture line.
example, if they add a Sahara grasslands, just find a plains biome and change the grass and trees and spawn rates.
I don't understand why people always want to tell you, "but you can do that this way...." on the suggestion pages. These are suggestions that people have ideas for. They should be taken on the merit of the idea, not weather or not it can all ready be done thru some other more complex means........
More specifics on what I suggest.
1) The Simple way,
Take Glowstone reprogram it to not emit light unless connected to a power source, lever, button, pressure plate, ect. The amount of light will stay the same which is a light source of 15 I believe. Nothing else changes from this at all, Except that Glowstone will be non light source unless turned on by a power source.
2) Just as simple,
Take GlowStone and have it emit 2 light levels when off and on. So when in the nether it will still emit light but at a lower level, say 7 so monsters will always spawn around it. But connect a power source and it emits the normal lvl 15 light.
3) The new item approach,
Use 3 glass panels, 1 iron, 1 redstone to make a redstone light bulb.

Bulb when connected to power source emits light at level 16, making it the brightest light source we can make since it is a crafted item and powered. Works as mentioned above.
Now for everyone who says, use pistons and push down a glowstone.........Yes everyone knows you can make a light switch with 2 pistons, 1 to slide a block out of the way and one to lower the glowstone. And everybody know to do this it takes up alot of space for one thing and another it is noisy and slow and sometimes hard to get delays set right so nothing interferes with each other. Lights are not visible if not lit. My suggestion is to replace this clumsy work around for a switchable light source with a simple light block that can be turned on and off with out noise or complex workings. Something anyone can connect to lever on the wall. And as with most things that are to replace a clumsy mechanic in the game, YOU DONT HAVE TO USE IT, but I bet you will. you can still make your multi layer piston lights if you so feel like it. Personally, I'll stick to having lights on all the time over the goofy piston lights until we get a switchable light source.
Description says it all. I would really like a simple way to make lights that can be turned on and off. Why not have a block that emits light when connected to a power source? Or just make the glowstone function this way.
I think this would also be nice to have, Dont know why everyone is acting rude about it. Not like it's removing anything from the game for them just adding a feature to make it faster and easier for some people and they need never ues it if they dont want.

sounds like what I'm suggesting adding to then game

Not talking about making mods for the game, talking about adding feature to the game for people that dont use mods.
