There's a difference between "I saw something cool that nobody ever updated, I want to make my own version of it" and "I'm flat out copying the thing you did and re-uploading it". The first is...possibly ok, if proper credit is given and you try to contact the original author. The second one is never ok.

What if he built it from scratch like what happened with Project:Red?
There's a huge difference between "I re-made an old mod, with my code, because the old mod is dead" and "I've re-uploaded the mod without any changes"
on the chart, there needs to be a measurement for how dangerous the downloads for the mod are, also.
Something like this is basically impossible to do, as it would require a thorough malware analysis of each hosted file on the site, and then some form of aggregate scoring system. Dunno about you, but I don't have the time to do that.
edit: 9minecraft also post with credits (author name)
Which would be nice...if they actually updated the info. But again, they don't. Re-read the original post. Fact is, they violate copyright, so regardless of if it's "safe" (protip...it's not), it's illegal.
Currently, the plan is to put together a license based on the MMPL, we're calling it MMPLv2. Once we've gotten it to a decently stable place, I'll have my lawyer go through it and make sure we're covering all our bases.
so you are complaining about sites stealing work that doesnt even belong to the "creators" in the first place? what? the modding community needs to get off its high horse and learn a thing or two from other modding communities. stop being so selfish.
No. We're upset that after putting hundreds of hours into writing code, some random person grabs the file and starts making money off it, without even talking to us. Many of us have licenses that specifically forbid this, and if you'd taken the time to read the OP, you'd see that it's a bigger issue than just "a couple of modders are upset".
I don't find skydaz evil. It gives full credit, and original links. (Though they do make money off the exe installer adflys.)
I hear what you're saying here...but they're still re-packaging mods, they're still making money, and there's still the problems listed on the OP...outdated versions, possible malware, etc etc. And, for those of us who *don't* use adf.ly, because we get all the negatives of a re-posting site, with none of the positives.
Not saying that they don't work for some people...just that they do still fall into the "more bad than good" category for me, and a lot of other mod authors.
Your license is interesting. I like some parts of it, and don't like other parts. Is that the solution to monetized content theft? Craft a custom license that grants explicitly the rights you want to grant? What are the chances these custom licenses would actually hold up if challenged in court?
Part of why I made the license is because I wanted something that other people could modify to fit their needs. Feel free to fork and modify.
As for if it'll hold up in court...realistically, all that matters is how much money you can throw at lawyers, and/or who you know in the political power structure.
My license has enough legalese in it to satisfy the "reasonable person" clause that shows up in a lot of laws (eg, would a "reasonable person" understand this to be binding), but keep in mind I'm not a lawyer, and lawyers aren't reasonable people in the courtroom.
If you want it to be completely airtight, hire a lawyer to write a license for you that fits your needs.
There's a reason I'm not a fan of licences allowing monetisation. It causes a lot of trouble.
Yup, which is why I use the license I do (the DBaJ license)...it allows redistribution (because I love modpacks), but only if there's no monetisation (so any website with ads is in violation).
Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this, CoolSquid. I've poked 9minecraft about removing my mod, and I'll start poking some of the others "Soon™". I didn't know about the hashtag when I first posted that, but I'll use it in the future.
(Thanks way2muchnoise for linking me to this, really appreciate it)
you should think about using poppy seed for something they can be use as pain relievers, treating insomnia, and they can help you with disease resistant
I've actually got a long list of plants that I'm going to be using. My wife is working with Kaelten (the Curse IT Director) on an mod/API called "Cornucopia", which is essentially a library of plants and their uses for other mods to extend.
AlchemyPlusPlus will be using Cornucopia to make potions that first of all make sense (eg, Aloe Vera helps with burns, or Poppy Seed relieves pain), and secondly have different strains (eg, there are different types of Lavender, each of which is effective at treating different things).
The way this will all work together, is that depending on what plants (and what strain of the plant) you're using, what process you use (eg powdering dried and reconstitution vs paste made from fresh), the end result potion may have more or less of an effect. When you're just starting out, not all of the effects will be apparent until you actually drink the potion.
As you learn more, the things you learn will appear in a "research journal", and you'll start seeing more information about the herbs you collect, and you'll be able to alter your brewing process to isolate effects.
<snip>Can I include this mod into my modpack?</snip>
Oi, apparently I missed the notification that someone posted here. Sorry about that!
All of my mods are licensed under the Don't Be a Jerk (DBaJ) non-commercial care-free license.
how do i make coal? i tried putting 8 carbon in the synthesiser an it shows up as coal but when i click it nothing happens
Hmm...could you check the latest build from the Minechem Jenkins? If it's still not working properly, could you submit a bug report (please read the Bug Reporting Guidelines first)?

Way to completely miss the point of this, AND be a jerk. Good for you. Have a cookie.

Please do, I'm also open to suggestions for making the license more user-friendly (and more jerk/scammer-hostile).

Creative Commons actually recommends against the license being used for software, and recommend that you give the GNU.org "How to choose a license" page a read instead.

Yeah, for it to get items, they have to be in the machine inventory. This is pretty much standard for all minecraft mods.

No problem, glad it worked for ya!
