A little bit about me: I am really into art and design and am going to school for graphic design. I even experimented with minecraft textures a few years back, you can check it out in my signature. What you prefer to do in MC: I mainly like to build, but I like to create automated farms for materials and experiment with redstone even though I'm not
great at it. I also like to learn about the mechanics of the game and experiment with things like textures and the like. I even started to make a resource pack a few years back which is in my signature but it was a lot of work.
How long have you been playing MC: It's been almost 8 years since I've first played, but I've taken breaks from the game.
How active do you expect to be: Almost daily, for at least an hour or two a day.
Yea, looks like I can get a new pen for a little over $30 but people are selling their small tablets with the pen for $40. Weird. If I'm gonna buy another one though, I'd probably spend the $200 or so on a newer model.
The quartz is looking really, really nice. One question though. Why did you choose a grey color for the darkest spots on some textures, but a more blue color for the pillar? It obviously works well, but it isn't something I would've ever thought of.
I also have an intuos tablet laying around that I should probably get used to using, but I seem to have misplaced the pen D: Hopefully I can find it.
Should we be voting for individual textures or the artists' sets as a whole? Also, are we limited to one vote or should we just vote on all the ones we like?
EDIT: Of course I answered my own questions after reading your post again. Silly me....
I really like Loki's textures, that's my vote, I submitted it!
Really interesting style... it's quite unlike anything I've seen before!
On a macro level everything looks great... maybe the cobblestone and brick cracks could be toned down a bit. On a smaller scale, I think you could do without some of the microscopic detail-pixeling that's going on. That's more of a personal preference, though. It could probably work either way.
I actually quite like the "microscopic detail-pixeling." It adds a certain flavor that I think suits the style and color pallette.
I doubt I will finish this in time mainly because it's tedious and I lack motivation. I know this won't count as an entry but I wanted to show off what I did so far anyway
So I realized that I haven't quite been using the high resolution I've chosen to it's fullest potential. I messed with my cobble texture, went back and added more detailing and shading and this is what I got. I tried not to break the theme of the pack and I think I managed it and it looks pretty good. I'll probably go back and do this to the rest of my textures I feel need it. Here's a before and after, let me know how it looks.
I appreciate the reply, I'm glad to get some advice from a great artist such as yourself!
I've chosen to go with the with subtly shaded, geometric style. However, I don't want to use gradients, or atleast use them selectively( I've used a subtle glow effect in my glowstone texture which I think looks great). I find I like those textures the best (planks and logs). I've already resolved to redo the sand, dirt and grass because I informed of a pack that uses a technique similar to that and I don't want to be compared to that or poach on the style. I like those textures that I've made, I just don't think they fit in this pack. I also want to try to avoid using curves, but I think I will do so for certain things to give the block a softer looking texture. (Snow, for example.) I think breaking the theme for something like that is fine because there's a reason to do so and It doesn't exactly clash with everything else.
The highlights in the logs are supposed to give them depth and make them look indented. I never noticed this to clash with the rest of the pack but now I'm questioning it. O_o
I only use transparent shapes to add shadows in, which I'm getting more comfortable with and am starting to do with more of the blocks I create.
Distinct colors and contrast is a good way to add texture in my opinion. Textures that contrast naturally look rougher, like grass or cobblestone. on the other hand, smoother transitioning colors make it look smoother to the touch (like my planks) But in the recent stuff I've made I am moving away from highly contrasting shades of color where it is unnecessary.
Also, I'm curious: Why do you think having contrasting colors in some blocks and not others is a bad thing?
So anyway, that's my reasoning behind everything I've done. This is my first time texturing so I'm trusting your eyes slightly more than mine at the moment. My only background before was traditional drawing. I'm going to keep in mind everything you've said going forward, and probably revisit some textures in the future. I'm really enjoying doing this.

200,000 downloads? What the....

Grass is the single most difficult block to texture IMO.

I think the black makes the texture look rather flat. I do like it for netherrack though. The red peaking through in the back is really nice

Wait you've used GIMP for the whole of Triton? Is GIMP a vector program or do you just scale your textures through other methods?

Oh... I didn't realize I didn't show the untextured parts....heh...
Maybe this'll explain it.

Hm, ok. Thanks. I'll make an effort to conform to a single style.
