I'm pretty sure spiders can now scale walls. I started a new file and did what I always do, just build box with no top about 4 blocks high just to survive the night. This always works because mobs can never drop in. Since the update spiders keep attacking me from above.
I let my game run unpaused overnight and for some reason there were literally 50 or so creepers outside waiting for me. I did not think they would add up like that.
So naturally I pulled a Leroy Jenkins and enjoyed the fireworks.
what is wrong with using texture packs?
they are easy to make and work fine.
unless I'm misunderstanding your meaning ....
With those you have to replace one block type overall whereas a linkable image block you could customize ONE block instead of the entire block type, for more customization.
...and the porn block thing, I think the 64x64 would limit that a bit, as well as having this entire linkable images an option that you can toggle on or off would help.
You might laugh, but I actually had a dream last night that gave me an idea for a small addition to Minecraft that I think could really help people to customize their worlds.
I won't get into the dream because it was pretty straight forward, but the idea is as well;
Have block types that each face (each N, W, S, E face) is clickable to add an html code to link to an image.
In keeping with the style of the game, the image could be restrained to 64x64.
You could then create your own 64x64 images in MSPaint (or whatever image editing software you prefer) & use a free image hosting site & BAM! Custom blocks.
I think this will allow people to make custom looking blocks for whatever they're building without having to completely change the existing textures in the Minecraft game files.
I think the block type should be very easy to come by, perhaps a combination of sheeps wool & wood, or something similar.
Like when you're outside, you should hear a constant, low windy sound, maybe trees swaying, insects, etc. Stand still outside and it's blank. I think this would help the immersion factor for MC a lot.
Let's say anywhere near sand and water, a 'beach' you hear beach noises etc. Higher up on the mountains you could hear mountainous ambiance.
We have sporadic ambiance when near caves, but that's about it.
Anyone else feel the same way? Maybe there's a mod that does this?

Hehe, that would be funny.
Perhaps you would need a toggle for that feature to be on or off.
Anyways I think the pros would outweigh the cons.

He is still essentially an independent developer, a normal guy, so he would do wise to hire a PR team since he has a gazillion dollars

That's what I get for expecting something noticeably different.
