posted a message on Best low-mid end shaders

    My specs:

    -MacBook Pro Early 2011

    -Intel Core i7-2720QM 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor

    -4GB RAM

    -500GB Hard Drive

-Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

-Radeon Graphics Chip with 512 MB Video Ram for High Performance Applications - MAC Auto Switches

And also, how can I get certain shaders like SEUS to work on Mac? When I download it, I just get a regular unzipped file named 'Shaders'. I've read that it does work, it's just that none of the things I've managed to find have actually helped me in the slightest.

    Please and thank you!

For MC 1.6.4, which is the more recent/better version: 1.6.4_L, 1.6.4_HD_U or 1.6.4_HD? Unsure of the differences, would appreciate the help! Thanks for the thread :)

Also can anyone recommend any good texture packs ('resource' packs didn't come out till later, right?) and mods for 1.6.4? Especially looking for a good minimap and world map mod, please and thanks!

posted a message on 1.6.4/Biomes o' Plenty 1.6.4 - big and small differences?

I was feeling bored so I thought I'd try out a 1.6.4 world - my main reason being that I've heard about the different world gen and supposedly better underground (trees underground?!) and wanted to find out what all the fuss was about. Also as a 'newer' player (only started playing PC version at 1.8.9, shortly before 1.9 was released), I've heard many people talk about their nostalgia and the things they miss so I was curious as to what I missed out on. Then I thought about Biomes o' Plenty and the promised land which I've never been to before as I've only played newer versions, and made a BoP 1.6.4 world. Got extremely lucky and found a huge old-style Mystic Grove really near spawn - or was the spawn weighting for Mystic Groves just different back then making them more common?

Anyway, my questions and reason for making this thread:

    1. What large differences will I notice between 1.6.4 and more recent versions, specifically 1.8.9 onwards?

    2. What smaller more subtle differences should I know about and bear in mind between 1.6.4 and 1.8.9+?

    3. What large differences will I notice between BoP 1.6.4 and more recent versions? Is the promised land accessible in BoP 1.6.4?

    4. What smaller more subtle differences should I know about and bear in mind between BoP 1.6.4 and 1.8.9+?

Also a related and somewhat stupid question - what exactly was 1.7? I've read that 1.7.2 is the update that changed the world and underground included, so what exactly was 1.7? Was the underground and world gen still the same as 1.6.4? A little confused as to my knowledge it's usually the main release (eg 1.7, 1.8) that has the major changes?

Any replies really appreciated, please and thank you!

(Also with all the 'Minecraft is dying' threads slagging off the newer versions, I feel obligated to mention that I really like the newer updates and the features that have been added and I am in no way abandoning newer versions - I just wanted to try something different, and doing this is almost giving me back that newbie feeling of wonder for the moment which is pretty cool)

posted a message on Can this run Minecraft?

And how well? 2010 model. For future reference, how does Minecraft run on an Intel Core 2 Duo/Intel Core Duo?

Or would I be better off going for a 2011/2012 MacBook Pro, or something else. Obviously on a limited budget here. Please and thanks!

Or can I login to my account and use the same copy of MCPC?

Also, can I transfer my save files over and play them on a Mac, or will they only work on Windows?

    Please and thank you!

posted a message on I need a cheap replacement laptop that can play Minecraft

I don't what - need a replacement laptop? Alright then, I'll just carry on playing on this thing with a broken screen and a clothes peg attached to the side to minimise the amount of lines running across my screen because you don't think I need one... jeez, please don't tell me what I do and don't need.

I can't afford to save up for a better one. The laptop I'm using now cost £400, I can't afford to go over that price. I can only just about afford a replacement because a mix up with my pay has meant for a few months I'm less skint than usual - but even so that doesn't mean I can "save up". Just to clarify, I'm not looking for something that can run Minecraft amazingly, just something that will run it about the same as this laptop has been doing.

I don't want a PC - I'm aware that they run MC better but obviously aren't portable which is a dealbreaker for me. If I could afford to save up for a laptop, I would get a high spec MSI model. But I can't so that idea is a far-off dream.

I figured a 2012 MacBook pro would run MC at least as well as I'm used to, and last me at least a couple of years as there are hundreds of fully working MacBook pros dated pre-2010. However if it really wouldn't run Minecraft at ~40FPS or really wouldn't last me at least a year, I'd appreciate a suggestion of something in my budget that would do.

    Please and thanks, again.

posted a message on I need a cheap replacement laptop that can play Minecraft

My screen has cracked and I've lost about a sixth of my screen due to flickering lines. I've been playing MC on a HP Pavilion 15.6" 15-AB254SA - Intel Core i5 6200U, 8GB RAM, intel hd graphics 520. Currently running 1.12 at ~40FPS with no optifine but no resource pack either.

I'm looking for a replacement - I can only really afford under £400 (and that's at a push) at the end of the month. Been looking on Ebay at secondhand macbook pros - usually wary of buying laptops secondhand because laptops tend to have a limited lifespan, but from what I understand macbooks are very good at not breaking down? I've found a few:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15-Inch-Mac-Book-Pro-Core-I5-2-66GHz-4GB-ram-320GB-HDD-Mid-2009-/232367097860?hash=item361a288804:g:wKMAAOSwK6RZNwh~

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-Macbook-Pro-13-3-Early-2011-Core-i5-2-3ghz-4GB-Ram-320GB-HD-/282527688446?hash=item41c7f666fe:g:CeQAAOSwSzRZQvvW

are some of the ones I've found that look good - what I need to know is will these run Minecraft, and how well would they run it compared to what I've got? Are there any others you can see that look better? Doesn't have to be on Ebay, but bear in mind I'm from England. Specifically what specs should I be looking for? Please help, I'm desperately missing the sixth of my screen but thinking I'd be better off cost-wise to just get a new laptop seeing as mine only cost £400 and is over a year old. Please and thank you!

posted a message on So there's good news, and then REALLY concerning news...

Haven't read all of the comments yet so forgive me if this has been mentioned - but bear in mind that PE is only about £5 as opposed to what, nearly £20 for PC? (Not sure of dollars.) Sure maybe PE has sold more copies, but maybe the fact it's a lot cheaper means a lot more people will buy it, not play it a great deal, then forget about it - whereas spending £20 on a game is more of a commitment. A year or two ago I bought Minecraft PE as I'd never played Minecraft before but was interested. After getting into it and reading stuff online about the wonders of the PC version, I made it my priority to get a laptop so I could play Minecraft PC. Within a year of playing PE I got a laptop and PC Minecraft, and now, over a year after buying MCPC I still love it and play pretty much daily. Whereas recently, I've updated MCPE out of curiosity and had a play, I still don't find it close to as good as MCPC. Even if all the features caught up to the PC version, the controls of a PC/laptop make MCPC the pleasure that it is to play. So maybe even though there's more sales of PE, there's still more players of PC if that makes sense? I might be wrong but just a possibility I thought was worth suggesting.

That aside, I do agree that it's pretty bad they're renaming the original Minecraft and making the console versions just "Minecraft". But I think/hope for a large amount of players, Minecraft PC will always remain "Minecraft".

posted a message on Inspiration for nice looking paths please?

My paths are looking a bit boring and plain and simple really - I see beautiful well-detailed paths, for example the paths of Corkus City in the news on here recently. But when I try to make similar style paths of my own design, I get a bit OCD about placement of stuff and really struggle to make anything less rigid and boring. And when I succeed in that, I tend to go right to the other end of the spectrum and end up with an overly-busy mess. I find it hard to get the right balance and get my paths looking good. Advice as to how to improve mine and which blocks to use, which look effective together etc, would be really helpful - whether it's your own advice or a link to a tutorial, would be really helpful, please and thank you!
