I am having a problem logging in since Beta 1.3 update this evening. When I log on to my account everything but the Single player button feature is working. When I click on the Single player button it takes it time loading and suddenly the error occurred screen pops up and then closes the application immediately. I am uncertain exactly what the problem is because Notch's suggested application runner for this occurrence has the same problem. It would be greatly appreciated if someone with any knowledge about this and could help, please comment or reply. Thank you.

I am having the same problem on Windows 7 64 bit. I am not your typical user, since I don't have the slightest clue what the heck the software is doing or how to find out. Basically, I just want to install, and play. This is crushing my experience. Someone help us learn how to "connect to minecraft.net" because until we can, we can't log into any servers, local or otherwise.
What worked for me: Deleted all Appdata, deleted all minecraft software, uninstalled all java, rebooted, installed java 64 bit from IE 64 bit, rebooted, downloaded new minecraft.exe

Me too! Still have the problem, and have tried all the fixes suggested in the read before posting thread. Seriously! someone help! I just paid for this game!
Hello. I'm new. My friend convinced me to give this game a try. I love it, but I too am experiencing the black/white screen in windows seven. worked fine for several days, now it doesn't. Nothing seems to have updated, and I've tried everything in the "read before posting" sticky, but still no luck.
I don't mind the down time too much, since this is still a beta, but is there any help anyone can offer? Is there any guess as to how long this issue will persist before a fix is published (or updated out of existence)? I just set up my first server today, and now I have my friends playing on it and I can't. It's quite disappointing.
