It's the filter, not much we can do about it in it's current form

You can't whitelist "lap1sSize" and "lap1sSpread" or something? Or set that word to only match if it's the whole word? The forum is one of the most obvious places to share presets, and the swear filter shouldn't interfere with that if nobody's swearing.

posted a message on Can't paste 14w17a worldgen presets correctly due to a (funny IMO) bug
I was looking for some cool presets for the new worldgen options, and I came across this thread. I couldn't help but notice that some of the JSON tag names didn't paste right, more specifically "lapis Size" and "lapis Spread" (without spaces.) Instead, they appeared as "la ize" and "la pread", respectively. At first I didn't know why multiple people made the same apparent mistake in copying/pasting the presets. But as I manually filled in the missing characters in the preset box, I realized why. Think about it. (Wikipedia and TVTropes call this the Shorpe problem, or at least that's how it appears here.)

    Pretty sure this shouldn't happen!

posted a message on Pixelmon DRM?
On the website for the Pixelmon mod (basically Pokemon in Minecraft) there's a blog post (permalink) saying they removed DRM from the mod at the request of a Mojang dev. While I'm always glad to hear DRM was removed (and kudos to Mojang for requesting it) I'm confused as to why it was even there in the first place, and what its purpose was. Why put DRM in something that's free?

Also, I'd be curious to see the text of said request, if it's published anywhere.

sorry, I might have accidentally switched from printed page numbers to pdf page numbers.
It's printed page 89, 92nd page of the pdf.
And I certainly didn't mention that rules with destination 224.0.0.0 / 240.0.0.0 are multicast IP address rules.

Nope, no luck. :-( The default setting wasn't there, and adding an explicit "allow" rule didn't work either.
    Any other suggestions?

Wow, so I'm an admin/moderator now? I find that hard to believe, so I'm banning Masterfireheart as a test. Now I'm unbanning him, as it was just a test.

In the manual (http://support.actiontec.com/doc_files/MI424WR_Vz_User_Manual_4.0.16.1.45.160_v4.pdf) for your router, I see an option in the Advanced Router configuration (p50) to enable a Multicast IGMP proxy. You might want to try enabling that.

p92 also shows Advanced Filtering a default rule to drop multicast IP on the local ethernet. You might try disabling that.
p95 Security Log may give you additional hints about why the multicast LAN announcements are being received. You might need to enable the packet logging (and then disable it later on to avoid the performance hit)

The only thing I see relating to IGMP in the Routing section is already checked (just says IGMP under Routing Protocols.) I enabled logging for blocked IGMP Multicast and nothing came up. But I'm not sure what you mean about Advanced Filtering; how exactly would I disable that? I looked in the manual and don't see anything on that page about multicast.

See if it is. Go into Network and Sharing Center.
It should look something like this.
To make it become regarded as a different type of network, click where Home Network is on the screenshot. It should then come up with a dialog like this:

Make sure that's set to Home Network on any machines you're trying to use. Otherwise, I don't know why it would be 'private'.

I'm using Windows 8, and "private" is the new term for "home". It worked before on Windows 8.

posted a message on Please add a /time subcommand to set the time without resetting the current day
    Quote from 7eggert

I think keeping the day unchanged is by design and may be useful. Also it may be useful to set the day on pre-designed (adventure) maps.

    /time ###: Current command
/time skip ###: skip to next day instead of going back
    /time next: alias for /time skip 0
/time day ###: Set current day (my addition, "suggested" by flarn2006)

Now chunks may be generated later than the current day, having negative age. These chunks need to be reset to be of age 0 on load or on changing the current day.

    Wouldn't "current command" be "/time set ###"?

    Probably your computer(s).
Make sure that the network the router is giving out is considered to be a 'home' network by your computers (I assume Windows) and antiviruses.

That's what I thought it might have been as well, but I don't think that's it:

Notice it says "Private (current profile)"

I would say this is a bug and should be added to the bug tracker. This would work as well but this honestly sounds like something that occurs by accident.

Well changing the day count can be useful too, just not as useful.

posted a message on Please add a /time subcommand to set the time without resetting the current day
I've known for a while that Minecraft not only keeps track of what the (in-game) time is, but also how many days have passed since the world has started. Now lately I've been playing in a "semi-legit" way, often doing /time set 0 when it's inconvenient to get in bed and I just want to keep building/exploring/whatever. This of course has the side effect of resetting this day count to 0, but I didn't care. However, the F3 screen in the newest snapshot seems to imply that the regional difficulty feature relies on the day count being accurate. I also recently noticed that it also resets the phase of the moon, which now actually has an effect on gameplay (controlling how often slimes spawn in swamps.)

All I'm suggesting is to add a new /time subcommand, called "skip" or something, that will advance to the specified time (0-29999) without going backwards. So for instance, if the current time is 73000 (day 2 + 13000/30000) and you type "/time skip 16000", it will set the time to 76000 (day 2 + 16000/30000). If you type "/time skip 12999", however, it will set the time to 102999 if my math serves me correctly (day 3 + 12999/30000), since 12999 < 13000. And actually I just read that it's actually 24000 ticks in a day instead of 30000, but what I said still applies, so I won't bother changing it.

This would be useful for any scenario when you want to skip night (or day) without messing up the internal day count.

posted a message on LAN servers are no longer detected after getting a new router.
I recently had my router replaced with a higher-end version of the same general model (Actiontec MI424WR). Previously everything was working fine; now when I click "Open to LAN", other computers on the network can't detect it. I can still play over the LAN; it's just that the server isn't automatically detected.

What I'm asking is whether or not there's some setting I may have changed at some point on the old router and forgotten about, that I didn't set on the new router. Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to fix it?

    Quote from Samsonguy920

I equate playing in Minecraft to the world of Myst. In that story, one can describe a world to the finest details, restrained to a certain degree to the laws of physics. Just a certain degree, of course. You can then touch the image at the start of the book to travel to that world, where you can effect change on a personal level. You will need to make sure to bring along a means of returning to your origin point, of course, which one could call a return book.

There's actually a mod that adds that to Minecraft; it's called (unsurprisingly) MystCraft.

Well as for the /killmobs command you suggest, that already exists in the snapshots. /kill @e[type=!Player,r=put radius here]

What exactly would make /i differ from /give? Just a shorter name for convenience?

As for the kits, that's more of something for server plugins, or you can make it with command blocks if you want.

I found a bug in your post, icywolf. You're placing circles, but Minecraft is about placing blocks.
FreezGamer has a bug in his post too, but I don't think I need to say what that is.

(no offense intended to either of you)
