I've fixed it, but it takes a toll on your gameplay. Apparently putting all your settings to the lowest possible WITHOUT OptiFine fixes it, and gives you a lot of FPS in return. Minecraft isn't graphically pretty in the first place, so having a few tweaks less doesn't make much difference. I'm trying to find out what actually causes the lag spike. I'll edit or post further on.
EDIT:
Either Fancy or Fast does not affect the gameplay, apparently.
Either Smooth Lighting or NO Smooth Lighting does not affect the gameplay, apparently.
Either Decreased, Minimal or All on the Particle settings does not affect the gameplay.
Nor Bobbing, advanced Open GL, or Clouds give lag spikes.
Performance doesn't either, nor does view range?
I don't know, but the lag spikes disappeared as soon as I turned everything to the lowest and then everything to the highest back again. Except for a loss of almost 100 FPS, for a remaining 40 FPS average.
Well you've set an incredible amount of danger on Minecraft by implementing these 3 creatures.. it's like finding your doom. Again what I said in another topic, this kind of suggestion would be better off as a mod. Perhaps part of the Mo' Creatures pack would be the kind of cool thing to do.
The solid idea of being able to enchant bows is amazing! and here's a list of enchants I made up:
Better Aim I/II/III - Each 'I' means 10% better, straighter arrows.
Special Arrow I/II/III - Each 'I' is half of a heart more dealt on arrow hit.
Rapid Fire I/II/III - Each 'I' speeds up the bow charging by 5 to 10%.
Spreading Arrow I/II/III - Initially, it spreads into 2 arrows, each 'I' adds 1 more arrow.
Elemental Arrow I/II/III - It either throws an ice arrow or a fire arrow, each element causes
a specific state, either burning or frozen.
This would be better off as a mod.. not all of us like RP in minecraft.
Nearly exact to what I was going to say, and why yes.. it is true. This suggestion is most likely to not get implemented, with how busy Notch is and stuff, you know..
It's really hard to get Notch to actually implement an idea you made up, really hard...
Out of 1000 suggestions, I'm sure Notch takes 2 into consideration, declines one of them and the other, thinks about it for about 5 days. Next thing you know, he forgets about it.
So let me get this straight, you want to downgrade your world save file? I got no idea. Since it uses a completely different data storage in Alpha it would be complicated to convert it back..
Best thing you could do would be grab the level.dat on the world you want to downgrade, create a world while on Alpha, and then replace the level.dat's.
Although I suggest you get one of the pre-releases (1.9 pre-release5 would be the best) because it seems Notch has been cleaning the code and trying to make it a lot less resource-intensive. My laptop had never ran Minecraft with such smoothness, although it sometimes lags for about 2 seconds but I can handle that.
IP addresses divide themselves into 2 types, the dynamic IP and the static IP.
The dynamic IP is simply put, the one that changes on it's own.
And the other IP which is the static IP, is the one that is stable, and doesn't change by itself. You can always look around.
You have a good processor, but when it comes to your memory RAM, things kinda go downhill.. I'm not sure if that is the cause of the problem. Have you been able to play Minecraft normally before this happened?
It's a great idea! it could also save your life, you could make a 1x1 block hole by where you will escape through to another room, awaiting for daylight / de-shrinking time.
The only biome I deeply hate is Swamp, after that all other biomes are nice.
Swamp colors the grass, and also does it to the water.. I hate it when a swamp biome's river flows in to the sea, it looks horrendous.

On 1.9 pre-release 4 I saw a skeleton walking on top of a red wool roof. Perhaps this changed..

By the way, does it just stay as 0%?

Either get Game Booster or [1.8.1] OptiFine.

It is corrupted, which means (if you don't fix the world with the solution above) it can no longer be used, it's screwed.
