True. But if it can power things as well without ever running out its a bit (hehe) overpowered.
To be fair, redstone (Gods I think that name is absolutely retarded; but I digress..) requires quite a bit of effort to dig up, though. Need to dig down to the bottom level; etc. Maybe we could make it depend on 'refined redstone' or make it work only when exposed to sunlight. (read: a certain level of light that isn't generated by torches)
Because, as I've said before, these bonuses would be permanent, as opposed to the temporary ones gained by tools. And what if you die kilometers from your spawn point? You just lost that tool. Prematurely I might add. We've already made it clear that we detest the idea of tools breaking randomly. Why foist all of our mining/digging ability off on the tools we carry.
Don't die?
And if you do, why should there be a game mechanic designed to completely render death a moot issue, beyond the slight annoyance of having to walk for a few minutes?
Besides, spawn points can be set eventually, one way or another. If you're careless enough to die still while being far away from your spawn point, then you rather deserve a penalty in game.

And whether you consider it grinding or not is irrelevant if you are already doing it. You want to build a big castle, so you go and hollow out a nice 20x20x20 hole in the side of the nearest mountain. How else were you going to get the stone?
How again does this relate to grinding for equipment experience?
But yes, that's a good argument for Creative Infdev.. Not for grinding. :tongue.gif:
Your argument is flawed because it imposes restriction to a majority to ineffectively stop a minority.

But mining to get better at mining, and crafting to get better at crafting isn't grinding at all
Grinding, even if you pull some fancy semantics out of the air and spank me with a thesaurus, is still grinding. Sure, you could weak it down claiming that you don't need to grind stone for hours in order to be able to mine less-common resources but that only raises us a completely different question. If there is no reasonable rewards and gameplay mechanics already provide similar rewards to people who upgrade their equipment instead of grind...

Oh I can already imagine some Greenpeace idiots harassing players in real life over this...

I don't really think that Runescape is much of an argument when it concern quality game design and graphics capabilities...
Hell, Duke Nukem 3D looks better and that was in 1996..

Yeah there are a few things in minecraft that are technically quite questionable at best.
Then again, if shoddy development would net me 3122 * 10 euros PER DAY, I'd go for it as well.

Consider it more like a visualization of a 3d Array of shorts.

Sounds familiar.. Would it require an oversized sword and a massive god-complex?

Why bother at all then?
