    Well, it IS pointlessly complicated, but that's half the fun. You can't really do anything too crazy with it but it's still a cool language to toy around with.

    CHECK OUT #BEFUNGE ON IRC.ESPER.NET

    Befunge is an esoteric programming language with an interesting property: The pointer can move in any direction you specify. Up, down, sideways, and in a variant version, Trefunge, along the z-axis. It makes for some pretty cool and crazy looking code. For example, I made this simple calculator in it (it only does addition and subtraction right now) EDIT: Now with multiplication and division as well and the code looks like this:

    v     --A BEFUNGE CALCULATOR :3--      > v
                                           ,
    >88*6+88*5+88*2+88*3+88*34*+88*1+88*3+:|:<
                        v+1*4+74<          ~
                        `       |`*4+74,+19<
                       v_v               >&&+.v
                       & &      >74+4*2-`|    @
                       & &               >&&*.^
                       / -
                       . .
                       >@<

    Makes such interesting code, don't you think?

    It looks pretty incomprehensible, but all it does is print out "CALCBEF", asks you for "+" or "-" and then performs the selected operation on two numbers of your choosing. It's pretty neat and I think all you programmers out there should give it a try.

    As for interpreting your finished code, I suggest Yet Another Befunge93 Interpreter, as it has a neat java interface and an animation mode that runs through your code visually.

    posted a message on The future of Minecraft [image]
    There will always be people that will try and ruin the game for others (surely if you've played Minecraft for even a day you already know this) and even if it is made into a clientside option that is hard to disable someone will give the unsuspecting new player detailed instructions on how to turn the setting off telling them that "it will make them fly" or something similar. I'm in support of Zuriki on this. Not only are serverside custom textures unnecessary, but I have yet to see one custom texture I've preferred to the original terrain.png. I'm really not sure why notch changed his long-standing stance on this subject, mainly because he was once so vehemently against it in the first place. I'm all for custom servers, I think they add a lot to the jewel that we all love playing so much, but serverside textures are not quite necessary.

    Again, there are many games that allow custom textures serverside. How many maps or skins do you see with any nudity? Also a child could join a random server and be assaulted with a lot more than inappropriate images, it's the internet and anything can happen this is why the esrb doesn't rate online interactions.

    I've played on tf2 maps with pornographic sprays and images built in, same thing with garrysmod. Sure, they didn't scar me for life but I know for a fact that children younger than 10 years old play minecraft and I don't think that it's fair to them.

    How are paint.net and GIMP not on this list?

    For those of you who don't know what these are (you poor souls)
    Paint.net - Free paint program that supports transparency and has several useful tools
    GIMP - A free image retouching and editing program, similar to photoshop

    I'm doing something similar, though I don't have much planned out yet. I really like php, it's a really easy language and there's plenty of documentation. Also, PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. Recursive acronyms ftw.

    ok, justa few questions i am curious about.

    1: when this mode comes out, will you be able to start your own server, and have your freinds join? me and a couple of mates have bought the game cos we are thinking of mass tunneling. XD

    Yes, you will always be able to host your own server with a private URL. However survival multiplayer will most likely take more computer resources than a conventional Minecraft Classic server, so you have to take that into account.

    2: if we can start up our own servers, can we save the map? i see we can do this in creative, but will you be able to in survival? we dont realy wana put alot of effort into a map, just to ahve it go bye bye forever when we need to take a break/sleep. :/

    You really should be able to. It's like Minecraft Classic Multiplayer, I assume you'll be able to simply copy the server-level folder and use it in your game.

    3: if we can start up our own servers, can it be password protected? that way, it can be a private server for buddies and none greifer folk. dont realy want a bunch of morons charge into our server and destroy our work of art. XD

    I haven't heard anything from notch about this so far, but you CAN have private servers that you only give the url of to your friends.
