I've been playing Minecraft since early June 2009, so I can say some things about good ol' Classic.
My first day playing the game, I stayed up until 5:30 AM on the Facepunch server. Man, was that server made of win. I met some people there, but it disappeared all of the sudden. I've never been to a server like that for over 2 years now.
Summer 2009 was excellent. Servers were lively and people did a whole lot more than now. Sure, you have your artsy servers full of cool houses and buildings, but the novelty of it all has long worn off. It doesn't feel the same way as it did back then. I remember spleefing like a boss (were there ever any spleef tournaments?) and used to see spleefing stadiums, inspired by Pokémon and stuff. Snail races were cool too, but short lived.
Remember when this huge wave of "adventure" maps flooded the forums? The giant world with the huge tree and glass maze was probably the first one and I don't think it was ever finished.
I don't want to sound like an old geezer, which I do, but nowadays, all you see is SMP and Beta and all the stuff you're given right off the bat. It's like people lost their imagination and now think Classic is archaic and shouldn't be alive anymore.. I've still not bought the game (damn money problems) so I might be one of the oldest people that still play the game that hasn't bought it. Remember back when Survival Test came out? That was one heck of a day.
I see there is some positive feedback to this. This might only be happening in Multiplayer which is great.
I am not the best level designer and if someone wants to help designing the levels, I'll add you to the list.
[IF THIS THREAD ALREADY EXISTS, LOCK. IF I MADE THE THREAD IN A WRONG SECTION, PLEASE MOVE]
So I had this idea to make an adventure game in MineCraft. It might be impossible, and I am 100% willing to accept that.
This is like the survival mode games that people have been creating, but on a much larger scale. Instead of one big map, how about many maps linked together via hubs or worlds. You can imagine it being like a 3d platformer (Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Banjo-Kazooie, you get the idea.)
Linking the maps might be a problem, but I've seen it in multiplayer but not single player. Anyway, I can't think of anything more to write so now I want your opinion on this. Can it be done, via scripts and stuff?
I post something like Coke or Pepsi.
The next poster chooses Coke (or Pepsi) and creates another question like Mario or Link and it goes on and on and on.

First question:
(Minecraft) Sand or Gravel?
