It looks like the players are getting to the server, but the server issn't responding.

The server logs a player is trying to join, so the player has made connection to the PC the server runs on. The player is currently seeing a loading screen that says "Logging in...". When the server is done loading, the player should join the game. But it looks like that issen't happening. It gets stuck between the payer connecting to the computer the server is hosted on, and actually joining the game.
(is this indeed the case? is the player that is trying to join gets an error, that could be a totally different problem.)

This can be caused by two things:

The speed of the computer used to host the server, or
    the internet speed.

Do you host it you're self? If so, what are the specs of the computer? (Processor, RAM, Operating System)
For 6-8 players you want about 2-3GB of RAM and a decent processor (~2Ghz). If you're computer's specs are in the same range, then that probably isn't the problem. If it's a lot slower, you may want to host the server on something more suitable.

Since you said you followed the steps posted by Ferrariic, i'm assuming the server already is connected to the internet via ethernet, and not Wi-fi, since that stops working when you have a static IP. If you are still using Wi-fi, try to use an ethernet cable. If the wi-fi signal is to weak, the server won't be able to send any information back to the players, and they won't be able to join.

If none of the above works, you may have to rent a server, since rather you're PC or you're internet are not fast enough to host a minecraft server.
(is this indeed the case? is the player that is trying to join gets an error, that could be a totally different problem.), This May actully be the problem.
