Since the Better Together Update, Xbox One is joined into the Bedrock Edition. So, all Xbox One forums are under the category "Minecraft Pocket Edition".

I sincerely hope that they can change the word "Pocket Edition" to "Bedrock Edition" since it is now unified and an official name for Pocket, Win 10 and Xbox One.

There is no such thing as "Bedrock Edition" so we will not be using that name. Bedrock is the name of the underlying platform used by the cross-platform Minecraft game. The game built on the Bedrock platform is called Minecraft and that is the name we are using, you can find the Minecraft forum here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft

The Pocket Edition forum, as mentioned here, will most likely be moved into the Editions category in the near future.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm confused; where should an Xbox 1 user (on the current version) be asking for support? I thought the "unmodified minecraft support" perhaps, because their "main section" is just called "Minecraft:", but that can't be right because there's no mods. That's presumably for java, because there is no section in support for "Minecraft:Java edition" (although that's where the other stuff for that version is).

Surely they don't post under "Minecraft: Xbox 1"? Because that'd be different from the main sections where xbox 1 refers to the older versions?

    Who's on first?

The support category will be undergoing some changes, including consolidating the 2 different support forums for Java edition (clients), meaning "Unmodified Minecraft Client Support" and "Modded Client Support" will become "Minecraft: Java Edition Support". Due to a large number of threads, this may take a few days to happen.

Although the new Minecraft game is functionally the same across multiple platforms (mobile, xbox etc.) there is still the possibility that a player will have an issue specific to their platform, therefore if someone needs support they will navigate to the forum for their device. For example, if you are playing on Xbox One, you will navigate to the Support > Minecraft Xbox One Support forum. I will be removing "Edition" from the current support forum names to make this more clear.

Does MCPE still exist as a separate product, different from how, for example, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition does - as an obsolete, but still playable game?

Put another way, won't all of the active MCPE players, assuming they keep their game updated, be on the "Minecraft"/Better Together version from now on? If I play Minecraft on a mobile device, which is the correct forum to use, MCPE only if I didn't accept the update, and "Minecraft" otherwise?

It's very possible I misunderstand how all the versions shook out with the BT update...

My understanding is that all mobile copies of Minecraft: Pocket Edition will update to the new Minecraft assuming players do not choose to block the update. However, I am not completely clear on whether or not this will prevent people from accessing the old Pocket Edition game, therefore at this time, I am leaving the Pocket Edition forum in place because it is a significant part of the forum. If it becomes clear that the old Pocket Edition is no longer used by many players because everybody chooses to update their game, meaning activity in that forum category shrinks substantially, then the Pocket Edition forum will be moved down into the Editions category with the other Editions. Sorry, I don't have a more concrete answer!

posted a message on An update to the Minecraft Forum category structure

Following the launch of the new consolidated Minecraft game (also known as the Better Together Update), we have restructured the Minecraft Forum categories to better reflect the various versions of Minecraft. Mojang have officially designated non-Minecraft versions of the game as "Editions", for example, "Minecraft: Java Edition", and "Minecraft: Xbox One Edition". You can learn more about this change to Minecraft in this article. This forum structure update clarifies which category applies to which version of the game.

    1. Minecraft Discussion has been renamed to Minecraft: Java Edition.

    2. Servers has been renamed to Servers: Java Edition.

    3. Mapping and Modding has been renamed to Mapping and Modding: Java Edition.

    4. A new category, Minecraft: Editions, has been created. This category contains a forum for each Edition of Minecraft, except for Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Pocket Edition which continue to have their own categories due to their popularity.

    5. Each Minecraft: Edition forum has been consolidated, instead of separate "Suggestions", "Recent Updates" and "Discussion" forums there is now a single "Discussion" forum for each edition where members can discuss all aspects of the game; current, future and ideas. Additionally, each Edition category contains a Multiplayer forum.

These changes should not have an impact on the way most members use the forum, however if you are not sure where you should post please take a look at the following information:

If you would like to discuss Minecraft: Java Edition, visit the first forum category, Minecraft: Java Edition.

If you would like to discuss the new Minecraft game, which is cross-platform and available on Xbox One, Windows 10, VR, Mobile and soon Nintendo Switch, visit the Minecraft category.

If you would like to discuss the old editions of Minecraft, such as the Xbox 360 Edition, or the Playstation 4 Edition, visit the Minecraft: Editions forum.

Please use this thread to share any questions you have about this change, or send me a Private Message. Thank you for your understanding :snowgolem: by Tulaash

You can also keep an eye on the Minecraft Forum homepage. Any time there is major news about the game, such as the launch of Minecraft: 3DS Edition, we will post an article, and every Saturday there is a post that covers everything that happened during the week, including minor news.

Alternatively, if you wish to have the news as fast as possible, as Herb_ said, following Minecraft.net and the developers on Twitter is the best strategy. The Minecraft Forum twitter account has a list of all the Minecraft developers/employees who tweet relevant information which you can follow: https://twitter.com/minecraftforum/lists/minecraft-developers

Mojang have used the term "Legacy console".

Speaking of which, shouldn't it be "Bedrock" rather than "Better together"? Because BTU is just this update; presumably, there will be more.

The name we have chosen is based on official Mojang language. I completely agree that this is confusing, it is, unfortunately, a consequence of operating a forum around a game with so many different versions -- although I'd argue this forum structure has always been confusing and this is not going to be any more confusing for new visitors. Regarding naming, from the Mojang FAQ:

"Q: What will this version be called? A: Going forward, the Bedrock Engine-based version of Minecraft will be called simply Minecraft on all platforms. Our general rule of thumb is that if a version can play together with the others, it’s called Minecraft. The original Java PC version and all other isolated versions will have “Edition” names, like Minecraft: Wii U Edition and Minecraft: Java Edition."

There are some hold-ups with our plan due to limitations of the forum software, specifically, I cannot yet rename "Minecraft Discussion" to "Minecraft: Java Edition" without breaking a number of links. I am currently coordinating with our IT team to get these changes made as soon as possible, hopefully in the next day or so, which will mean that "Minecraft Discussion" will become "Minecraft: Java Edition", "Mapping and Modding" will become "Mapping and Modding: Java Edition" and "Minecraft: Better Together" will become the simple and accurate "Minecraft". The "Better Together" name is temporary, just until announcements and redirects are in place so that there's a little less confusing for regular members browsing the forum wondering what happened.

There are ways we can greatly improve the user experience that goes beyond the names we decide for each category/forum, for example instead of expecting a member to find the right category then the right forum and then create their thread, we could present them with some sort of landing page that asks "What do you want to post about?" and then tell them where to post based on that, e.g: if they need help with Minecraft on the Xbox 360, they are sent to the support forum for that edition. I can't guarantee that will happen, but it is my goal and hope that we do make the forum much more friendly for new members, in ways that go beyond just forum names.

Your feedback is appreciated, any other thoughts you have are welcome :) The forum structure definitely isn't set in stone and while changing it again isn't on the cards, it's something that can be considered if there is justification.

posted a message on Where can you watch Minecon Earth?

Minecraft regularly stream on Twitch and Mixer, and although as far as I know there has not been any official confirmation around where the stream will be available, it's almost certain that it will be available on the twitch.tv/minecraft and mixer.com/minecraft channels, as previous Minecon streams have taken place on Twitch. They may also stream on YouTube.

Thank you for providing more information, based on information from the advertisement team I think that this is an issue at our end and not yours. To help us identify what the cause of this is could you let me know what browser you use and what (if any) browser extensions you have installed that are designed to interfere with adverts? For example AdBlock, uBlock, AdBlock Plus etc.

posted a message on Ad Placement in Reply Box

This should not happen, when this occurs it's usually because of malware on your computer that is injecting advertisements into the websites you're visiting. This malware could be computer wide, or specific to your browser. The best way to identify if there is malware in your browser extensions is to disable them one by one and see if the advert disappears. If the adverts continue to show even after turning off all of your browser extensions and scanning your computer please let me know and I'll get in touch with our advertisement team to identify if it is coming from our system.

Votes are limited by IP address to prevent abuse, unfortunately, if there are multiple people using the same computer interested in voting for the same server you'll either need to take turns or choose one person who is allowed to vote.

posted a message on Sites background became a large ad?

These type of advertisements have been used on the website for many years however they are not consistent because they are sold as part of an advertising campaign, not through an advertising exchange. You may not have seen one of these adverts before because there hasn't been an active campaign when you had advertising visible.

These are standard advertisements that are used across the Curse Network. The reason you are now seeing this advertisement when you previously did not is that Curse Premium does not exist anymore, there is no longer any program offered by Curse for advertisement free viewing on this forum. Due to your previous participation in the Curse Premium program, I have manually granted you an entitlement that will allow you to opt-out of advertisements on the website. Please let me know if you run into any more issues.
