Found out we need different software. Go there and download the software at the bottom of the page. Worked for me.
So I'm feeling pretty stupid right now. Behold the answer. I did this when I read this post, but still ran "start server.bat", when I should have been running the "minecraft_server.jar" which you download from the link at the bottom of the download page. Yeah, now it all works just fine.
I have tried everything. Public server, private server. Using my laptop to host and my desktop to login. Desktop hosting and laptop logging. Each one doing both. I've tried logging in from the downloaded client and from the website, no luck. I'm running Windows 7, not XP, and I'm not using any mods. Don't even have any downloaded or ever installed. I've tried so many times it outrageous. Even with all the recent updates, no dice. I see all the thousands of people that have viewed this problem and it's clear that this is not an uncommon issue, yet there is no real suggestion for fixing it. Please, if you're reading this and know how to fix it, let us know.
Please. Look at the number of people that have VIEWED this topic. Obviously it's a huge issue. And still no solution? Please, someone has to know how to fix this problem.
Please, someone help me with this. I'm trying to set up a private server for me and my friends, but I can't even log in to it. They're waiting to make sure we can play together before they purchase the game, so it would be really great if I could get this working. Thanks.
Hey, I am having this trouble as well. I am running Windows 7. I have tried everything. No matter what I do every time I try to connect to my own server it gives me this message "You need to log in!" and kicks me out, which crashes Minecraft. It happens whether I try to run it as the .exe or through the browser. I've seen this issue on a lot of random forums, including other Minecraft forums, but there never seems to be any conclusive solution to the problem. Has anyone who posted here previous had this problem fixed? Any info would be greatly appreciate.
