posted a message on Void Islands 2 [CTM/SURV]

I've started playing and I've bridged to the forest island, but right now the mobs seem repetitive. Skeleton-with-Punch-II-bow-spawners, more of those spawners all over. Not only are skeletons with Punch bows annoying, there doesn't seem to be any other kind of mob spawner there. I'd like to see more diversity in terms of mobs.

And you have to set the player to adventure mode.

posted a message on EXODUS SEASON 3: GENESIS [21 Months of Development] [Voice Acted] [8 Endings] [Over 12K downloads!]

This was a great map! I liked how you could pick your gender before you started. The small things matter as well.

I also have suggestions on how to improve this map and/or future maps you make:

    • The part where you get the redstone torches to restore the elevator power frustrated me a lot (especially with the off-tune singing), and I ended up cheating the last one in. I suggest placing more than 8 torches around the map, so you don't have to get all of them – only most of them.
    • In some parts, the guide particle points were too sparse and I had no idea where to go next. Perhaps they could be placed closer to each other or show the direction to the next guide point as well.
    • After the Phoenix spawns, you seem to have forgotten to put the player into adventure mode, leaving them in spectator mode, apparently forever.
    • Being able to die all you want without repercussions isn't exactly immersing. You could end the map prematurely with a bad ending if the player dies a certain number of times against a given boss, but in that case, the player should be given better equipment to compensate for it.

    If you're curious, I got ending 3.

posted a message on Minestrappolation 4: Pipes and Teleporters!

Is there a way to have pipes point in two directions at a time (e. g. into a chest, and if that's full, continuing further down the pipe system)?

    Quote from Cuchaz»

Ah, well if the figure also included projected labor costs, then that changes the situation dramatically. 10k doesn't go as far when you have to commit more hours to get it.

Wouldn't it be nice if Mojang wanted to buy Tall Worlds from me and the other devs? That sounds like a fun problem to have.

Even if you had to give it away for free, wouldn't you like to have infinite height in vanilla?

posted a message on Remove this splash text

Partial support. Minecraft has a large audience of young people, and any reasonable person could deduce that this splash is quite suggestive. However, I'd like to see a "Include Adult Splashes" option that enables or disables such splashes.

This would be annoying at the very least. I like the idea, but no support.

posted a message on Ex Nihilo (the Skyblock companion mod)

Well, as of this week I have been officially promoted to "Contractor". This has a good side and a bad side.

    The good:
I have all the time in the world to work on Ex Nihilo 2. I've already made some great progress on rewriting existing features in 1.8.

    The bad:
I have no idea when or even if I'll get more paid work.

I still hope that the kickstarter will gain some momentum towards the deadline, but so far trying to get my message to go viral has been like trying to start a fire with wet wood. I'll put in a ton of effort and see some small movement, but instead of seeing it take on a life of it's own it just smolders for a while and goes out. People retweet me once in a while, but no one is really talking about it unless they are debating the probability of me taking the money and disappearing. Without viral spread, I'm afraid my campaign might be dead in the water. Maybe if I had more of a 'direct' connection to my audience it would have been different, but I'm relying on other people to talk to my audience for me and it just isn't happening in any meaningful way.

So here's my new plan. Even if the kickstarter doesn't work out, Ex Nihilo 2 is going to get released at the very least. I can use my savings to survive till then. Perhaps the attention that I have managed to get will allow me to assemble enough of a following on Patreon that I can last a few more months then I could on my own.

How much do I need? As much as I can get I guess. I appreciate everything that you do to help support me, but no one has been able to turn Patreon into a survivable wage yet. I'm going to do what I can to support the mod pack devs and the players who use my mod, and I can only hope that you'll choose to support me in return. I doubt Patreon will pay my bills, so I'm going to be burning through my savings no matter what.

When will my savings run out and force me to go back to work full time? That depends on a lot of factors. Will I get new contract work regularly from my employer? Will my Kickstarter backers move to Patreon? Will the Kickstarter pull out a miraculous finish in the last week? I just don't know.

I can only say that I'll last as long as I can and that Ex Nihilo 2 will be written. Maybe this will become the new pattern that I have to resort to: work for a year to support a 'summer vacation' where I do my modding work.

It's a miracle from Sanae herself that your Kickstarter is failing. Maybe (for the sake of your life?) you should close the campaign, refund everyone who contributed, and pray that you finish your mod before your savings run out. I probably will not play with your mod, and definitely will not if this crowdfunding rubbish continues.

    Quote from Cuchaz»

Wow. Your words have moved me. Where I once wandered blindly in the darkness, I now see the error of my old ways. I'll put the code for all the modding projects I've ever done on code sharing sites at once! That way, everyone can see what I've been doing and how my mods work. And other modders could even contribute code to my projects if they wanted. Everyone wins, right?

Here's a couple links to start. Am I doing this right?

It might be nice to have a README.md, wouldn't it?

You bought something after it's development was funded by it's fans. Doesn't that violate your moral code?

Hmm, you're right. Maybe I should stop playing.

posted a message on Ex Nihilo (the Skyblock companion mod)

I once paid a man for a game that was barely working. It was in alpha testing, and it looked pretty terrible. Everyone called him crazy. He said something like, "Hi there! I've got this game, it's not much, but I can make it bigger, better, more fun! So please pay me anyway?" I did. Paying for the development of Minecraft was the best eight dollars that I will ever give anyone in my life. I'm thankful to him for giving me the opportunity to help.

I bought it when it was on Release 1.2.5.

I'm sorry if I've somehow offended you. That was never my intention.

Unfortunately, I've never been exposed to your 'doujin culture' before and I still don't completely understand why some there are some 'good' ways to pay for work and some 'bad' ways. It has been interesting trying to understand your point of view though.

All I'm doing is holding out a hat and people are dropping money into it. I don't know why that makes you so aggressive.

Holding a hat for what you've already done is fine. But what you're doing is waving your hat at people for something you've yet to do.
