posted a message on Double stair block to give two half blocks when broken
(If this has been mentioned before: I searched the forums as best as I could, but because it removes all common words in search, it was impossible to get a good search result.)

Basically :stair: should give two half blocks when broken. At this moment, you just get one (just like with the single half block).

I don't know if this is intentional, but I don't see why we should be punished for combining to half blocks accidentally.

    How so? Care to elaborate?

I'm not sure myself, but I can imagine that each cycle, even just a strip of land, gives some lag. By doing this, you would increase the amount of cycles. Second, every cycle, the amount of surface that requires updating increases, as the outer layer would first become bright, followed by the second, after which the outer layer becomes brighter, then the third etc. until the outer layer is fully lit and no longer will be updated.

I personally vote for a special 'Castlevania II: Simon's Quest' potion, or:

posted a message on Ideas to make (char)coal more useful + some other thoughts
I remember seeing some people writing about the large amounts of charcoal ( :coalore: ). I have some suggestions that could make it more interesting as a material, related to real-life applications:

    1. Add steel as a material
Steel is an alloy that is made in furnaces, the most common type being carbon steel. I propose making iron ( :ironore: ) a bit more common and being able to make steel by combining coal and iron in the new furnace and burning them.
Pure iron, just like pure gold, is a very soft material (think for instance about those small wrappers iron wires). Iron in nature, however, is usually iron oxide which is hard but brittle (gold is a noble metal and can be found quite pure). Steel is very durable, which would lead to a material order of Wood/Gold < Stone < Iron < Steel < Diamond.

    2. Make charcoal part of the TNT process
Though TNT is not gunpowder, this is the strongest equivalent you can think of for this game craft-wise. Gunpowder is made from charcoal, salpeter and sulphur. Very recently, the creeper mob has been made to drop the mystery powder. Why can't we consider this to be salpeter/sulphur mix: perhaps the creeper is simply a sulphur based lifeform, spawned from the deep lava in underground caves :ohmy.gif:

    Other thoughts, unrelated to charcoal:
    - Personally, I'd like to see that 1 sand makes 3 glass blocks intead of 2, considering it's lost now when you break it (and let's face it, one cube of sand can yield quite a lot of window). That, or the creation of glass shards that can be melted together in a furnace to make new blocks, i.e. four shards make one block. In real life, glass can be recycled, which is done by remelting broken glass.

    - Diablo 2 style belt: i.e. when you 'break' a tool, it is replaced with the item that was placed nearest on the slot above. Perhaps only for a limited amount of slots.

    - Adding a 'pool to inventory' option in craft windows. Also a 'restack' button in the inventory that combines unneccesarily split items.

^ It says in red letters in the /indev/ window not to report bugs for that version. It's still heavilly in development, and Notch knows it's not bug free.

Yes I am aware of this, but considering the nature of this glitch, it seems very likely it is part of the basic engine, not part of new features in the indev.

I only posted this because of this reason. I promise I will refrain from posting any other glitches found in the Indev in the future.

    Glitch: Infinite resources

Sometimes when I break large amounts of blocks consecutively, a fragment block can get 'stuck' in mid air as seen below:

    Characteristics:
    - It vibrates up and down really fast.
    - If you remove all blocks around it, it just stays where it is.
    - If you stand on it to pick it up, your resources of this type just fill up until 99.
    - It does not disappear if you keep making new debri by mining or throwing out inventory (I've noticed other debri disappearing over time if there's lot's)

    Reproducing:
I have succesfully reproduced it for sand, rock, wood, dirt and silver. I do not know what the cause is other than massive mining. Easiest way to reproduce (no guarantee): build large single block sand tower and mine it down to the floor from the top down. Doing so has resulted in this glitch three times so far in two sessions.

I have thus far not seen it before, might be related to it being the 'Indev' package. I have not been MCing for a while though, so might happen in the 'open' 0.30 too.

    That would be Phillip,

I also tried to make a Skeleton sprite last night.

It's very difficult handling it without making it look too much like some corny Haloween costume... Anyhoo it's my current av.
