posted a message on [Bukkit][TP] Stargate - The Bukkit port. A portal plugin
Thank you, thank you, thank you for continuing this plugin despite all the difficulties over at Bukkit. The Bukkit staff should be embarrassed to have banned such an avid and active developer over nothing more than being offended. I can't believe they would inconvenience all of the server admins out there over a personal feud.

Are you continuing the iChat plugin as well? That's what I went to Bukkit.org to install today, but instead got slapped in the face with heavy-handed administrating (closed threads, moved threads, etc).

EDIT: A quick search of the forums and I found that too! :biggrin.gif:

Whoops, used it on the 1.9 pre-release and wiped out my whole inventory. That'll teach me not to back up.

Seems to work on 1.8.1, so thank you for that! Any chance of getting it working for the 1.9 pre?

posted a message on Hunger on peaceful mode
I decided to play on Peaceful difficulty for the first time last night. Before 1.8, I'd never felt motivated to switch to peaceful - for me, Minecraft's motivating force had been to shelter myself against hostile mobs, and Peaceful mode took away that motivation. Now, with the 1.8 update and beyond, there's a new motivating force - exploration.

So I started a Peaceful save with an emphasis on exploring instead of fighting, and so far, it hasn't been dull at all - in fact, it's been a lot of fun. That's not to say I don't enjoy playing on Normal, it's just a different experience. Sometimes it's fun to, say, walk into a gigantic cavern without having to be constantly on your guard.

However, I was disappointed that the new hunger mechanic isn't present in Peaceful. I figured while there wouldn't be hostile mobs, hunger would eventually drive me to the surface to hunt/cook/farm/etc. I mean, it makes sense - Peaceful mode has traditionally regenerated health, after all, and your health regenerates when your hunger bar is full - but I'd love to see a mod that allowed me to play on Peaceful with hunger. I wouldn't mind the threat of losing health since health now regenerates when the player is well-fed. In short, I'd like a "peaceful" mode that's exactly what it says - nothing trying to attack me, but everything else about the game remains intact.

That way, I'd still get the general experience of having to survive without having to be on my guard for hostile mobs. It's probably a strange request, since most people seem to like one extreme or the other, but it's definitely a combination of gaming elements I'd like to experience.

So does anyone know if such a mod exists and, if not, is it possible for someone to make it?

The 1.7.3 OptiFine was 1.5 compatible. After MT and Optimine are ported I will most probably make next versions compatible with Java 1.5.

that is the BEST NEWS!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I was under the impression that 1.8.1 no longer supports OSX 10.5 so I hope for your sake you have 10.6 installed (I know you can't use Lion because of being PPC) but I have no idea if your GPU can support the OpenGL calls that Minecraft 1.8 requires.

I know PPC has been unsupported for quite a few years now but I think this is a testament to how well they were made - you are *still* using it well!

As I said earlier in this thread, OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) does not support PPC. It's stupid, I know (10.6 was just supposed to be a "refinement" of 10.5, after all) but for some reason Apple dropped PPC support between the two versions.

However, that isn't even the problem. The problem is that Apple's Java 6 is not supported on PPC. As a result, Minecraft runs, but many of the mods do not, OptiFine included. It particularly sucks because people on old PPC laptops could benefit hugely from something like OptiFine, but alas it crashes the game. Even the LSOD fix by itself produces unexpected results because, again, PPC users are stuck with Java 5.

I was under the impression that 1.8.1 doesn't actually run on Leopard 10.5.8 and that an upgrade to Snow Leopard (not Lion since you are PPC) was needed to play Minecraft now.

I'm trying to get a friend to play Minecraft on his PPC, and unfortunately, it's much harder than that.

Apple quietly dropped support for PPCs between Leopard and Snow Leopard, which, while that sucks, isn't the problem. The problem is that Java 1.6 has dropped support for PPC architecture as well, so the highest version of Java PPC owners can upgrade to is 1.5. Minecraft runs (though it ain't pretty) but lots of mods aren't compatible with Java 1.5 and thus can't be installed. When I tried installing the LSOD fix on a PPC, for example, they were unable to connect to a multiplayer server and the regular game rendered all the blocks black.

So yeah, if you're on a PPC, you're screwed =/ I hope what you say about Optimine is true, and that a Java 1.5 compatible version of OptiFine or Optimine will be released. But I doubt it.

I'm using the classic optifine and whenever I join a server, my FPS starts around 80 then goes down to 40 and stays there. This has ONLY started happening since I tried the new 1.9 pre-release.

I have 4 GB of ram.

OptiFine has been updated for 1.8.1, not the 1.9 pre-release.

I've ran Optifine with ~20 mods and it worked perfectly. It's not hard.

That's awesome news. But did you install them before or after OptiFine?

i seriously cant i have about 36 mods installed right now

If you can manage to run OptiFine with about 36 mods without any conflicts or crashes I highly recommend you buy a lottery ticket.

It's like someone else said - you can pick OptiFine and better performance, or you can cling to your mods. You can't have both, and you certainly can't install OptiFine after you installed all those mods and expect it to work.

yes i do but i already patched my minecraft.jar waaay before this mod was even 10% finshed :dry.gif:

I honestly think you'd be much better off starting over with a vanilla minecraft.jar and patching with OptiFine first, then reinstalling your mods.

Install OptiFine without MCPatcher HD features for best performance.
If you absolutely need MCPatcher (HD Textures): Install OptiFine without the "ji.class" (the mipmaps and fog distance will not be active). For HD fonts install without the "sj.class". For BetterGrass install without "cv.class".

Please update this since i cant find any of those classes in the 1.8 RC2 version of Opti-Fine

You realize OptiFine comes with an HD texture patch and BetterGrass?

When I launch Minecraft with OptiFine from the standard launcher, I get 70-80fps. Which is definitely an improvement over the typical 50-60fps I got before, don't get me wrong, but it's still not great.

But when I launch Minecraft with OptiFine from MCpatcher, I'm getting 110-150fps easily, and sometimes higher.

Also, when I launch Minecraft with OptiFine from MCpatcher, the menu screen looks different (there's a "quit game" button on it) whereas when I launch it from the typical launcher I don't. Both of them definitely have OptiFine installed because I checked the menus.

So if it's launching with a modded jar both times, how is it faster with MCpatcher?
