When this happened on the 1.8 boards, one of the mods went on a lock-spree and ended many of the flamewars in one fell swoop. I wish they could all be like that.
The aftermath is that everyone who feels that their perfectly legitimate and well-worded and in no way flaming screed was discriminated against comes here and complains about mods being biased against them specifically. So pretty much the nightmare moves from over there to over here.
I'm leaving the forums exactly because of the mess they've become, and came here to make a thread saying pretty much exactly what you're saying here, so I'll settle for bumping it. Keep fighting the good fight.
How am I able to fix this. I've reinstalled the newest java TWICE, restarted my computer, my modem, and redownloaded the minecraft_server.jar.

I'm assuming you've already tried launching the server like it says? (If you haven't, the support forum might have more specific instructions; I don't run Windows on my server so I can't help you there).
Either way, there's another option. In your server.properties file, there should be an entry that looks like:
view-distance=10
Lower that number and the server has a lower memory footprint. I've noticed some issues with far away redstone not updating as much as I'd like as a result, but other than that I've had no problems.
I was playing a game in another thread where I'd point people to the previous entries in the thread that contained ( A ) where someone else had made the same argument, and ( B ) the people who replied to that argument. In that F-key thread I could have done the entire thing in one post!
Seriously, it's not about shutting up constructive criticism. It's that we never see constructive criticism.
Here's an example of how to do it:
I was really hoping for Endermen not to be able to move player-placed blocks. I'm trying to make an adventure map that has creatures, but it's difficult to have the players properly navigate a maze if there are creatures that change the maze.
And here's what we usually see: (actual quote)
Notch is a lazy fatass.
The real kicker is that people see what they want to see, so they see a post they think is making constructive criticism, like the first one, only it's littered with "lazy" and "greedy" and other name-calling. Then they get upset when it gets locked for entirely predictable reasons.
In short, it's a discussion forum, and there's precious little of that going on.
Knowing coding may make it easier to understand the process, but it doesn't forgive him of his shortcomings, nor does it validate the stupid "you do better!" argument. That argument is stupid, ad hominem fallacy, and has never been legitimate. In criticizing any walk of life, ever. Because one doesn't need to be an expert in a field to criticize. It doesn't take expertise to recognize basic mistakes or shortcomings. Especially when you can compare and contrast such activity vs the plethora of other coders (both for this game, and thousands of others).
My other worry in this game is that I'm putting words in people's mouths. Hopefully "it'd help you understand" is a legitimate interpretation of your original reply. I didn't see it as absolving Notch of all wrongdoing, merely a response to "knowing code is useless in this situation". My apologies if I got it wrong.
People have the right to criticize, its their opinion. Telling them to Code a game doesn't help. That's like saying If you don't like the president, to start running for president, ignorant.
atiaxi, one problem with your game (as amusing as it is!) it doesn't follow the point/counterpoint/refutedpoints of the conversation. While there is enough content in this thread to create any argument, some of it (imho) has been successfully refuted. A cousin of confirmation bias I guess.
That's what I'm seeing as the big problem with my game right now. If I keep it at short point/counterpoint, I get people who are replying to me as though I made the point (or counterpoint) in the first place, usually with the next part of the thread. If I try to make it longer and put the whole thread of conversation in there, I can't keep up (I can barely keep up now!).
It's difficult to say that anything is successfully refuted, at least here. I've tried to put an emphasis less on judging the quality of the counterpoints/refutations and more on the "if you say this, someone will say this" aspect. Because regardless of a successful refutation or not, someone's going to reply.
Why did you complain about the quality of something that hasn't been fully released yet? It's a pre-release for christ-sake, of course it's half-assed. The release was sanctioned so that they could gain critical feedback from players about 1.8 for the full release, and yet you just rant and insult the guy.
Firstly, Camus' initial prediction was correct, it's hard to keep up with how quickly the thread is moving!
That said, I wasn't entirely sure how to interpret your argument, and I didn't want to put words in your mouth. You could either be saying that mods take their time too, or mods did more, and those are pretty opposite sides of the coin :smile.gif:
:smile.gif: I do see my friend. My veiled point was that the "game" you are playing is also something that has been done before and will change nothing
Quite possibly! I'd actually resolved to leave the thread earlier, but the game seemed amusing to me. I think it's probably a good bet that I'll get tired of pointing out reposts long before people get tired of re-posting.
That said, I do agree with your point that Mojang's stuck with an Unpleasable Fanbase :smile.gif:

There's a few stickies above that help, I know there's a patch that'll take care of it and also a python script.

Hi Jhartsock123!
You've made the argument You don't need to be a coder to know bad code
This will be replied to with Knowing software development would better help you understand what's happening
Thanks for playing!

I can't take the credit, other people have actually made the arguments, I've just found them.

Hi Mynotoar!
You've made the argument: This was a pre-release
Others will reply that they're worried about the general direction of the game
Thanks for playing!

Hi Ovus!
You've repeated your argument here verbatim!
You may recall that people replied to you with The terms of service, and the fact that This was a preview release.
Thank you for playing, and in the future, please remember how people have replied to your own posts!

Hi funkaywizard!
Your argument is: Adding features takes time
The reply will be: A sandbox game is easier to modify
Thanks for playing!
