posted a message on If you could change world generation, what would you do?
Instead of doubling the ceiling but leaving all other heights (diamond layer, gold layer, sea level) untouched they should have just doubled everything. I don't want to build from ~64 to 256, I want to build from ~128 to 256 and dig from 128 to 8... With mountains being up to twice as high, tunnels and caverns sometimes being twice as large. Basically just make everything more epic than it already is now. It seems way more obvious to give us twice as much in both directions than to give us the same thing going DOWN in MINEcraft while giving us 3 times as much room going up.

And I don't care about the lag. My PC can handle it. Let people turn this option off if they don't like it/can't handle it.

You could put the game in casual mode, run in one direction for 8 hours a day every day for the next year, turn on hard mode and die, and when you respawn back at home it will be just like you left it. Also in all that running you will never have come even close to the end of the game world. However your world file will be massive.

posted a message on Scary endermens?
So last night I was playing a little. It was night in the game and I was running around my house doing stuff when I glance out a small window as I run past and there are these glowing eyes staring right at me. About scared the pants right off me!

That kind of thing is why they are scary to me. The eyes showing up at random times and locations..... Messes with your head. Other than that, they aren't that scary to me.

    Quote from SMA11784

So I started a creative world earlier, chucking eyes of ender to find a stronghold, dig straight down to it, go to the end, those of you who've been know you spawn on a little 5x5 obsidian platform placed, like everything else, randomly. Well I got to the end and my little platform was floating out in the middle of nowhere, more than a dozen blocks away from the actual land mass of the end. So I whip out some obsidian and start building a bridge and sure enough, dragon swoops in and sends me sailing into the night. Now you're probably thinking, 'big deal, it's creative. You can just fly.'

What if it hadn't been in creative mode? Suppose for a minute I'd actually been playing hardcore mode. Legitimately playing, spent a few weeks, gathering the resources to build the weapons and armor that would allow me to survive, find a stronghold, gather enough eyes of ender to open the gate, I get there, and I'm totally screwed. I can't make it to land, can't kill the dragon 'cause I can't reach most (if any) of the crystals, can't stand there swinging forever because I'll eventually starve, and if I take my eyes off the dragon long enough to build a bridge, I get punted into the dark, all my work gets deleted, and there is nothing I can do about it.

Am I the only one that sees this as a problem?

That doesn't sound impossible. It sounds really hard..... But not impossible. Try being more creative, I think you can find a way that would work for someone in Hardcore as well.

Please do not make a tutorial like this. Everything is out of order. It should be more like this:

    Step 2:Craft wood Into Planks.
    Step 3:Craft planks Into workbench.
    Make wooden pickaxe.
    Step 6:Mine For Stone (3).
Throw wooden pickaxe away (or store it if you must).
    Step 5:Make stone Pickaxe
Mine for more stone (17) and coal.
    Make Sword, Shovel, and Axe.
    Step 7:Make Furnace.
Chop down a few trees, kill a few sheep, kill a few pigs or cows.
    Step 10:Make Torches.
    Step 4:Build House.
    Make door for house.
    Make windows for house.
    Cook meat.
    Make bed for house.
    Sleep.
    Step 11:Kill Stuff.
    Step 14:Mine For Iron.
Step 15:Make Armour,Pickaxe,And Sword Out of Iron.
Learn to play on your own.

Also, for the love of god don't capitalize every word in your list except for and of, once each. WTF?????

It is much easier and far more efficient to do something like this:

Punch 1 small to normal tree, providing 4-6 wood.
    Go find some visible coal.
Craft a workbench next to the coal.
    Craft a wood pick-axe.
Mine 3 regular stone from around the coal.
    Craft a stone pick-axe.
(optional) Throw your wood pick-axe off a cliff.
Mine the coal and 17 additional stone.
Make a furnace, stone axe, shovel, sword, and spare stone pick-axe.
    Recover the workbench.
Hunt down 3 sheep and kill them for their wool.*
Then find a nice spot for your house and start building it, 4x3x3, or larger if you like.*
When night is almost upon you, regardless of whether you have found sheep or a good house site, build a house.
If you have the wool for a bed setup your furnace, crafting table, and bed. Make your equipment for the next day and cook some meat. Then go to sleep. If you don't have a bed then use the time to dig a mine beneath your house.

*While hunting sheep and for your house site also grab all other useful resources you find along the way. Gather seeds, mushrooms, cactus, sand (for glass), sugar cane, etc. Also kill any other animals you find for meat, as it will take a while to setup a working farm and you need whatever food you can get immediately.

It's not dead yet. I am working on Stage 2 right now, and will hopefully post pictures soon, if Skyrim doesn't eat my life as completely as Dark Souls has recently done.

posted a message on Why the Adventure Update has changed the game too much.
Notch hasn't ruined the survival aspect of this game. Everyone becoming extremely good at the game and analyzing all aspects of it death has ruined the survival aspect far more than anything Notch has done.... And Notch added in Hardcore mode, which is pretty much the only way for the "Survival" part to matter anyway.

If I am looking for a particular biome and don't see it on spawn I use Amidst (link below to its thread) to find it. Works very well, and typically I find that the biome I want is in very easy walking distance of my spawn.

    Try this:

    Amidst

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/626786-v2012-amidst-strongholds-village-biome-ect-finder/page__hl__amidst

If you load your level.dat into it then it will show you all Biomes in your world. It will also show where all villages and strongholds are located. You can hover your mouse over a village icon to get the location, then go visit it if you want.

Hwowever, if you don't want to "cheat" in terms of finding a village, but do want to verify that you actually do have villages in your world there is a way to do it. Just load up the world and glance at it real fast without really "focusing" on it. If there is only one icon that is your character and you don't have any buildings (villages or strongholds) in the world. If there is anything more than one icon, then villages definitely exist and you should keep searching.

    Quote from UberZogster

A ocean map in 1.9 would be 3157400279728522821. I would recommend invedit or some way of giving yourself some saplings as there is no land anywhere that I have found. I have played this map for quite some time in creative just flying around trying to find land.

The biome mapper that was linked doesn't work as it is for 1.8 and this is a 1.9 seed, so please don't act like there is land around because there isn't. The biggest island that I have come across was around 10 blocks, and it didn't have any trees.

The biome mapper does not work for 1.9 if you enter the seed value into it. However, if you launch a game with the seed and then load the resulting level.dat file into the biome mapper then it does work. I did so and found the nearest piece of land, a large "Plains" island with no trees on it, exactly where expected, at 900/700. There is also a very small island with 1 tree visible from this island, and there is a small sandy peninsula of a large desert island visible from the plains island, and from the desert island you can see the main continent that is south of your spawn.

There is also a mushroom island at -450/750 that isn't too far away.

From either of the closest non-ocean biomes, the mushroom island or the Plains going straight south will run you straight into the big continent, or just heading straight south from your spawn would work too.
