I went back looking for them but it appears they despawned. :sad.gif:

I can't count the number of times I've spawned in a new world, and find myself surrounded by wolves. I just spawned with eight (EIGHT!) wolves running around, frolicking.
But of course, I have encountered no skeletons (because the world is approximately 3 seconds old) and so I can't tame them! :sad.gif:
Oct 27, 2011I'm just about to start my first mine, and I remember seeing pictures on the forums of the 'best mining pattern' which looked a bit like a repeating spiral. It looked so awesome!Posted in: Survival Mode
But unfortunately I didn't save the image, so I was wondering if anyone here had a copy of it (if you know what I'm yammering on about) but otherwise, does anyone have any tips?
Also I'm mining just above layer 12... is that right?
Oct 26, 2011Would you consider a side-quest of sorts, that lets you use the village farms?Posted in: Survival Mode
You can only eat what you have killed yourself (meat).
Then someone comes up to you and says "The villagers are starving! Create a pumpkin/watermelon/reed farm to help them survive."
Then when you harvest ~10 watermelon (and feed them to the incinerator) you can use the wheat in the farms.
If you wanted, the next stage could be creating a sheep/cow/pig/chicken paddock for the village.
I know this isn't quite keeping with the "mercenary" theme, but as a side quest the whole "village guardian" idea I like. :smile.gif:
Oct 26, 2011Wow! This is a really awesome-sounding, well thought out challenge. I'm currently doing the hardcore challenge, but after that I will SO do this one! :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: And then I'll post pics of the amazingness.Posted in: Survival Mode

Hi! So I've been playing minecraft since alpha but I only JUST saw my first slime! I found it when I went to the bottom of my mineshaft (which I never use) to collect lava.
Squee! My first slime blobs!
Now my only question is... will they spawn there forever now? How can I make them spawn more often? :biggrin.gif: Any ideas?
ALSO! Have you seen a slime yet?

I've had a terrible time with herding animals.
First I built a chicken coop with a single wooden fence surrounding it. They were escaping. Someone told me that they occasionally fly over the fence.
So I made the fence double-height. At the same time, I made double-height fences around several other pens for cows, pigs, and sheep. Animals kept escaping from those too.
So I made the fences triple-height and included a fence overhang around the inside of the pens. Animals *still* escaped. Someone said that fences were buggy, and because they only occupy a portion of the block animals sometimes teleported through them.
So I rebuilt all my pens with double-height glass walls all the way around. THEY'RE STILL ESCAPING.
I'm about to put all-glass ceilings over all the pens. Will that work???
What version of MC do you have? I had the same problem, but it turned out my fence hadn't joined to the nearby blocks properly.
If you can't see fence posts between a normal block (ie dirt) and the fence block, the chickens can squeeze through that gap (try pushing them through it! it's easy to do). You can fix this by getting 1.5 (which binds fences to blocks) or alternatively just adding more fences to the corners or whatever.
Chickens can get through this:
But not this:

I was mining a large tunnel for an adventure map when I came across a deep chasm. At the bottom was a 2x2 patch of grass with tallgrass on it, at about layer 20. Nearby were mushrooms and a pig that somehow managed to climb down while I was mining.
Pigs can mine too. Refer to my signature. :tongue.gif:
