Just putting this out there, Scimiguy has received my permission to have a new team update this mod (as I am the current rights holder for this mod). I haven't been associated with the development of DRPG for years, but the rights to update the mod and do as they wish with it are theirs.

Just putting this out there, Scimiguy has received my permission to update this mod. I've given him the source and other unreleased content. This doesn't mean I'm totally dissociating myself from AoA, but since I won't be working on it myself it makes sense that someone with the desire to do so can.

I agree with XolovA, do not give this mod to another person, because the mod will not be the same anymore.

This is actually very true. Switching the designers (not developers) for a mod/game can actually result in a very different outcome. It's extremely unlikely that two people had the exact same design path in mind, and it would likely get taken in a different direction.

So finally, this mod will be abandoned forever!!!

As I've mentioned, that isn't 100% the case. It's possible AoA will update as a mod, but the new thing on it's way is a far far better replacement. I'm not unveling details yet, because most "mod to game" conversions in the past from modders across most games have been an absolute disaster and it sets a really bad precedent. The notable ones that weren't were ones where there were giant amounts of funds behind the creation (see Dota, PUBG, H1Z1, etc). That being said, we won't be falling into that bad precedent. ;)

Whoa there! Before you guys get too ahead of yourselves you need to see if Xolova is okay with it first.

Seeing as Xolova has not responded to any request/suggestion to passing the mod along to a new team, it appears that he is not interested in doing so, or is still deciding.

The last time I did it (with DRPG), members of the team that took over updating it saw it as a method to copy code, textures and so fourth, to create their own rip-off or copycats mods rather than actually updating it. As for open source, I'm fairly certain the same thing would happen on a much bigger scale given the number of forum PM's I've received asking for code they can copy. It's seriously depressing.

We are in 2018... When 2.5 version of AoA, Xol’s Workshop, Total Colosseum and Atlantis Rising arrive ?

This is a bit of a retired/reworked plan. These were mods that were made under contracts, the releases on a couple got fuddled and one got halted entirely. It's a real shame because Atlantis Rising was really cool (will maybe still happen one day, there is talks about someone else finishing it).

Oh, bummer! I've just gotten into AoA and absolutely love it—I came to check out the update schedule to see that it's out of development. :(

Good luck on your future endeavors, Xolova!

Is anyone planning to take over?

I'd say don't worry, because what I have coming is lightyears ahead of where AoA is.

I remember you said once that you had shown some people a full run of Labricon.

I think I remember showing people, but it probably appeared to be a run, while having a lot of 'hidden' methods for enabling things that weren't there. This happens a lot in demos when things aren't entirely functional, where you build temporary activators to perform actions (placeholders).

Hi Xolova. Have you considered releasing a snapshot of 2.5 - 2.7 as it is? I know there is a 2.5 snapshot, but I mean releasing the rest of the content. Even if it is buggy and somethings are missing, people could still play with it. Of course, it is entirely up to you if you decide to release it or not.

There wouldn't be much of a point, as it wouldn't be any more playable than the last released version. None of the unreleased content is finished, it's all partially complete.

Does anybody here know what licensing Xolova uses for AoA? Also, if we take a picture and put it on the wiki of AoA in-game, how much ownership does Xolova/Mojang have over it? (meaning is it entirely Mojang-owned, or does Xolova own half of it, etc).

Also, do you guys think Xolova won't mind if we put up old versions of the mod to download? I'd like to see if its possible to set up here a way to download older versions of AoA (as that is currently not supported).

They can be put up, I don't mind. As for legal stuff, Mojang/Microsoft own it in the entirety. The wiki they do not, nor the art on it, but they own the actual content itself.

So your saying since your making your own game you can't put in 48 hours(actual hours) to update to 2.5 one-two week?

It's not about that. I could probably sit there and work on AoA full time for a few weeks and get it done, but that serves me little purpose. Don't get me wrong, I had so much planned for AoA and I wish I could have brought it all to the fans, but it isn't a realistic goal in sustainability terms. If I were to complete AoA in my free time, it would probably take 20-30 weeks to complete. That's not a commitment I am currently willing to make.

No. There is no official confirmation on what Xolova is doing at the moment.

Unfortunately I've been very committed to not releasing information until I'm sure it's ready, but I can give a bit of information. Last year I posted something regarding the fact that modding was not sustainable with a project of this size. Simply put, it takes too much time to keep updating when third parties make massive overhauls to the base system and a rewrite has to be done. Changes this large out of my control only create headaches, so I had to come up with another plan to create content.

I'll be 100% honest, I'm not sure if AoA will ever update again, or finish the existing update (it's possible I'll take the time to do it at some point). That being said, my plans didn't end there. The last year has been huge for me in undergoing a far far far bigger project, which I can say involved going all in and founding my own games studio. I'm not going to go into details yet because I have business partners in this that aren't ready to disclose their involvement yet, but there is a lot going on for me from here. In the next few weeks (I really mean this time-frame, I'm almost sure of it) there will be a big overhaul of my Twitter and some announcements about this stuff. The studio isn't just starting now, we've been working on two projects (full fledged games) for the last year and a bit. The first of the two is very near complete (which is super exciting), the second which is more to the style of AoA, will be coming at a later date. While I can't say much yet, I can say this second project does have a lot of relations to AoA spiritually, while providing a completely new experience where the possibilities are limitless (as I am no longer bound by third parties or the limitations of existing games). A key thing for me was that this wasn't a reinvention of any existing game or copy/clone, etc. I wanted to do something new. There are some really, really, cool new things, I genuinely can't wait to show them. The amount of content is pretty insane too, as per my style.

That being said, I really apologize to anyone who has felt abandoned, I look forward to providing you with some truly exciting new experiences in the future.
