posted a message on DnD v3.5 Classic Ruleset Half-Total Conversion
So, it's early morning, and I've been up all night sketching out and writing up my idea for this mod that I got shortly after playing NWN2 with a couple of friends when all of a sudden I got what I thought was a pretty cool idea that wouldn't be terribly hard to implement I don't think.

One of the first parts of the mod is making it so that you can't destroy or create any blocks, you've got a static world dungeon.

The next part of the design would be the character creation. It would have to be made somewhat from scratch possibly, with all of the options you can choose to take in PnP (Pen and Paper) DnD to create your character. Also needed would be unique beginning outfits for every class available.

Next I would think would need to be the combat and DM system. You would need to do initiative rolls and a way to make a turnbased system for players and npcs. I think that outside of an encounter you should be able to move freely, but once inside of an encounter each person would take their turn and the DM would take the turns of the enemies/npcs. There would possibly be an option for rolls to have the computer automatically calculate them without showing them, one for them to click a button to roll and have a die show up on screen, and an option for the player/s to roll a die in real life (in case they want their rolls to be a bit more human controlled) and then enter in the value they got. Players move speed would determine the number of squares they could move. A system for opportunity attacks, the complete leveling up, as well as a whole host of new creatures and races in the game. Perhaps as well effects for spells and the like.

There would also be dungeons and campaigns you could download that were created by someone, or a team of people dedicated to making them.

Also included would be a way for a player or DM to do a sneak check, or a listen check, or a lore check, any number of things where if there's a hidden door it could be outlined in red, or a fake wall would become partially see through, etc.

With the issue of the camera during encounters and out of them, perhaps more of a free camera during the encounters for the players to look around, with each square much more outlined than what it normally is. Out of an encounter perhaps either 3rd person or 1st person, whatever the player likes.

There would also possibly be a way for someone to, rather than have blocks being elements, they are just generic blocks that the dungeon creator could put a texture on each one to really have custom rooms. Obviously a sample texture kit could be included, or someone could create their own.

I think minecraft could be an excellent base for a truely visual representation of the greatest game that doesn't use electronics.

Mind you, this is only what I've thought up on my own after a couple of hours of thinking about and writing down ideas. I have yet to confer on it with a few of my friends who would also be interested in create this mod. If we get the motivation, and it's not more difficult to mod minecraft once the API comes out than it is interfacing with OpenGL in C, then this mod will definitely be in the works.

Any thoughts or comments are very welcome and encouraged, even if you want to say you hate my guts.

I'm going to be getting on the road here, going home for spring break, so I will get the renderings for this world started up when I'm home! :biggrin.gif:

Sorry about the long pause between these! I got home and the router wasn't working and my dad couldn't explain it, so I've spent the last 3 days trying to figure it out...turns out it had water leak on it from the bathroom on the floor above which caused a whole bunch of other things and had to go out and get a new router...yeah, big mess =/. I'll try to get to work on these soon though, little busy playing Dragon Age 2. :iapprove:

I request a render of the first Gourd Avenger map! It comes with its own texture pack apparently, so I'd be nice if you used that. Maybe a map-like view and some closeups of houses? Anyway, I think that'd be sweet, thanks! :Notch:

Here are the renderings from this map, it was actually a really cool one! I especially really like the second one, I softened up the reflections in the water and I think they look real nice.

Want a high-definition rendering of your single or server world with extra features such as water-reflection and realistic shadowing but don't have the fastest computer? Look no further than here! Using SmilyOrg's Ray Tracing Software (As discussed here. All credit goes to him for this awesome program, I'm merely using it to help people) I will be offering to render a single shot of whatever you want within your world! Want the awesome castle you have fully shadowed and represented? I can do that! Want a city with a nice ocean-port with amazing reflections? I can do that as well!

Unfortunately for most people who don't have the time to wait while it eats up their processor, this program isn't very practical. I, however, have a powerful enough processor to do a full 3200*1800 rendering in roughly 4-5 hours, while still being able to function as normal with my computer.

So here's what you do if you want this: Pack up your world into a zip file and upload it online, then give me the link to it and the resolution you want it rendered at (nothing more than 2560*2048 please) and I will add you to the que. If you want a picture of your world for a desktop wallpaper then use your native resolution as the rendering resolution. Want a picture for a mod banner or the sort, then I can make you a high resolution rendering and you can crop it to fit your banner.

So bring it on guys, give me your most impressive structures and worlds and I will give you what you want. :Notch:

Edit: Also, if you would like a certain texture pack used, then link me to the forum thread with that texture pack for me, otherwise I will default to using Aageon's 128x pack found here

You didn't explain this very well :/ i'm assuming its a booster powered by wind?
Dont expect this to be added he has enough to be coded as it is.
    But nice idea :tongue.gif:

No silly! It's a windmill powered by minecarts, can't you tell? :iapprove:

Hey, I would like to inform you of a troll named slamsol that is stealing your screenshots and taking all the credit.

Until you have proof someone is actually a troll or fits the definition of an internet troll, I would advise you AGAINST throwing that word around, too many people use that word to describe anyone that commits an action that they do not approve of, including you. In fact, you are much closer to a "troll" than slamsol is, since you seem to be posting these things specifically to cause conflict. It's not like a screen-shot has a copyright on it, so it's not stealing. For example, I am also working on a weather mod, here is a picture for you to check my progress out on!

HOWEVER, I do say to slamsol, that now that you have given a fake screen-shot, you are honorably obligated to provide an actual image of the rain working in your mod. If you do not, I will have a hard time believing in your progress on your mod.

    12. Dagger and BattleAxe (by: Chicken)- He no longer updates it but the concept is what counts. A dagger is great for a cheap weapon. And we might as well add a blunt weapon right? So theres the battleaxe.

Since when is a battle axe a blunt weapon...a mace is a blunt weapon, a battle axe is slashing >_>

ITT: 1 person deciding what is and is not a good/useful mod and others just shouting out other mods to him, which apparently represents the community as a whole.

    Ill just post this here...

    :Notch:

... And PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE, just play through the goddamn browser and be done with this! :Skeleton:

I'm not playing through the damn browser when I should have a launcher that works perfectly fine. I prefer to play full screen, not in that little window.

Yeah, Notch is awake, big freaking deal. He has working hours and off hours. How would you like it if your boss called you in to work at all hours of the day and night to fix every issue that came up right on the spot? He has workers, a company, business hours. He has to pay overtime and have meetings and all that other fun stuff that comes with being a real company and not just one guy at an office desk. 24/7 support was not a package deal.

Okay Notch worshiper, the launcher is B R O K E N. Companies usually test their products before they release them, which is exactly why I support putting out patches early as a separate download on the site for a sort of "beta" testing for the patch. That way they can get the bugs in it worked out, such as half the Minecraft population not being able to play the damn game. Obviously during his "working hours" today the problem wasn't fixed and I haven't seen him acknowledge that there even is a problem. Seriously get your head out of the sand, Notch is not a god that does nothing wrong, this patch is just another failure along with the others, and once again, it's not the content but the technical problems.
