    Quote from Eminence2002

I am in need of a dedicated server or VPS. The dedicated server requirements should be 4-8 gb ram and the price should be lower than $80. The VPS should be 3-4 gb ram and should be less than $40. Thanks everyone!

Hey, I can offer you a North American VPS with full root access for $28/month. It has the following specs:
    -8GB RAM
    -Dedicated IP Address
    -20GB of SSD storage
-Dedicated processor core (Intel Xeon 1245v2, two logical cores due to HyperThreading)
    -200Mbps bandwidth

Let me know if you'd like a free 3-day trial, and I can get it set up for you!

A more 'realistic' option would include hardware upgrades once every two years, which is a good periodic time to work with for ensuring proper performance. Given an average lifespan of 85 years (assuming a small increase for the future), and assuming you're around 20 years old, that would mean you would have the server for approximately 65 years.

With these numbers, you would be paying somewhere around the $150,000 to $200,000 mark, considering electricity prices are likely to increase drastically in the future. You would be better off going with a subscription plan, or possibly purchasing hardware yourself, then colocation for it.

You did mention already having an offer--note that if it seems too good to be true, it just might be. Anyone offering such a plan likely either doesn't plan to keep the server for a true 'lifetime' contract, or is not planning appropriately.

Hello. I need your help migrating my server. Currently I am hosting via my own computer, which is great and all. However, I need to migrate to a dedicated server. I am looking for something not meant for little kids. I don't need someone to hold my hand through the set-up process.

I managed to host my own with over 35 custom formatted plugins and all, so clearly I am capable of doing it myself. Basically, I just need a place with FTP that I can dump my files onto and be done, trusting that it won't lag or put restrictions on anything. If it costs to have unlimited players or install a mod, I don't want it.

Also, I am aware that one of the main overselling points is RAM. I don't really care, I am smart enough to know that its the CPU and how the server is built that matters. If the host has free Buycraft or Donations, and maybe a free enjin site, perfect!

One last thing, if the "Dedicated IP" is something like name.MCProBeastAwesomeSauceHosting.co.uk.us.org, I'm out. Needs to be presentable. Thanks for your time and suggestions!

Hey! Not sure what kind of budget you are looking at, however I can offer you a plan with the following dedicated specs for $28/month:
    -8GB RAM
-1 dedicated Xeon 1245v2 core (2 logical cores, due to hyperthreading)
    -200Mbps bandwidth
    -25GB SSD space
    -Dedicated IPv4 address

The server comes with full SFTP/SSH access. We also provide free migration assistance, so you can give us your SFTP details, or a download link to a .zip file with all your server files, and we will set it up for you. You have full control over plugin installation/player count, no slot limitations.

If you would like a free 3-day trial to test out our services to make sure they match the performance you need, just shoot me a PM and I'll get it setup for you!

    posted a message on Dedi i3-based system + 16GB
As bearbear mentioned, most game server hosts don't use i3 processors.

If going purely by your budget, I could sell you a dedicated box in North America with a Xeon E3-1245V2 processor, 32GB of RAM, 80GB of SSD, and 200Mbps of bandwidth for $90/month, however if you are adamant about getting an i3 box, I would suggest looking into http://hybridservers.com, who offers an i3-3220 for around $85.52/mo (no SSD), or an i3-4340 (with SSD) for $105/mo.

Note that HybridServers' datacenter is in Lithuania.

posted a message on Looking for a Cheap reliable server for a rather intensive modpack
    Quote from Allindas

    Hello everyone,
I am currently looking for a semi cheap server preferably around the 3 to 4 GB range for RAM that allows custom modpacks and increased permgen allocation as every host I have gone to have given me issues on getting my permgen increased. Would like the host to have responsive support and preferably would like the server hosted on the East Coast of the US if possible.

    Thank you for your time.
    Allindas

Hey! Our $27/month plan gets you 8GB of RAM, a dedicated Xeon 1245V2 core (2 with hyperthreading), a dedicated IP Address, and a 100mbps connection. Additionally, you have full control over launch configuration (including PermGen), and the server is located in Southern Canada, extremely close to the East Coast. I'd be more than happy to set you up with a free 2-day trial to make sure the server works for what you need, if interested.

posted a message on Minimum ram for a building server?
2GB is usually the bare minimum for smaller build servers, due to the memory use of plugins such as World Edit. 4GB would be a more reasonable suggestion, if possible.

Another piece of the puzzle to look into is the processor on the server--many plugins builders use consume tons of CPU cycles to make massive changes to landscape.

As pointed out by FullEffectHosting, the McMyAdmin panel will add some additional overhead. If you're interested in command-line management of a server, I would also be happy to get on Skype with you and walk you through the basics. In the end, it never hurts to be comfortable navigating CLI Linux. :)

posted a message on Need a lot of help with OVH.
If you are comfortable learning how to use SSH, a Virtual Private Server from a non-minecraft host might be a good solution to look into.

Essentially, once you get your server, you'll want to choose CentOS as the OS (for an easy java install), use PuTTY to SSH in, and then download/install Java. You'll want to download a version of Java packaged for Linux, so look for linux jdk or jre as a .rpm file. Once you find one, download it to your computer, and upload it (via FileZilla) to your VPS.

Then, cd to the directory where you uploaded to (likely "cd ~"), then type rpm -Uvh java-jdk-<version>.rpm, making sure that the java-jdk-<version>.rpm matches the exact name of the rpm of Java you are using.

Then, download some form of Minecraft server to your computer, and upload via filezilla as well. If, for example, you get Bukkit, once you get it uploaded to ~:
    cd ~
    echo 'java -Xmx2G -Xms1G -jar craftbukkit.jar' > launch.sh
    screen
    chmod a+x launch.sh
    ./launch.sh

And that'll start your server up for you. Depending on what VPS you are using, you'll change 2G and 1G to the max and 50% of the memory you have been assigned.

If you want to get back to your server on your VPS, do:
    screen -ls
    screen -r <screen_name>

posted a message on Which is better, BitVPS or MCProHosting?
The main difference between the two is that BitVPS is geared towards generic server hosting, and they likely won't provide much support (if any) for setting up Minecraft. MCPro is specifically for Minecraft, so the servers are built for Minecraft. You note that you have a limited technical knowledge, so you'd likely be best going with a host which will offer Minecraft directly, rather than wrangling with a server to get Minecraft setup yourself.

    Hello there!

I'm looking for a good FTB (Feed The Beast) server host. There will be about 5-15 people on the server. I am looking around the 20$ range. If you know any good hosts please tell me!

    Thanks!

Hey Cola! Slightly above your $20 requirement, but our $27 server package gives you:

    -20GB SSD Space
-Dedicated core of an Intel Xeon 1245V2 (2 logical cores w/ HT)

posted a message on Ordering with OVH
OVH Cloud is their new product which offers the flexibility of cloud virtualization (using VMWare). The classic VPS is what you're looking for for Minecraft servers.

To run a simple server, once you get your VPS installed (I suggest CentOS), then you can download craftbukkit:

Go to the java download page here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html and download the linux x64 .rpm file, then use something like FileZilla to connect to your server (use port 22 if using the SFTP built into SSH), and upload it. Then SSH into your box, and type:

    cd ~
    rpm -Uvh jdk-8-linux-x64.rpm
    yum update
    yum install nano
    mkdir Bukkit
    cd Bukkit
    wget http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/get/02535_1.7.2-R0.3/craftbukkit-beta.jar
    echo 'java -Xmx 2G -Xms1G -jar craftbukkit-beta.jar' > startserver.sh
    chmod a+x startserver.sh
    screen
    ./startserver.sh

Change 2G an 1G to whatever RAM your VPS has, where 2G is the full (or close to full) amount your server is allocated, and 1G is around half.

You can then close the window, and your server will run in the background. If you need to get back to the CLI of your server, type "screen -ls" then "screen -r <screenName>" to resume.

For MineOS, they have a RHEL (Centos/RedHat) tutorial here: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/mineoswiki/index.php?title=MineOS_(yum)

Go to canyouseeme.org and see if they can see your service on port 25565. If they can see your service, sounds like you're having either a latency issue, or some kind of traffic block.
