    Status Report

I plan to get to work on 1.9 as soon as the snapshot is released. Hopefully there will be time to get it all done before the official release. Going by the Minecon previews the textures don't look too tricky which should make this simpler. I'll likely be asking for feedback on the colours of the textures as the laptop I am forced to work on at the moment has a weird problem with the screen which makes the colours wrong and more (looks like some weird liquid is seeping in from the sides); I can work around this, but not without difficulty.

Explanation for my whereabouts: Last time I posted I mentioned that I would be homeless if not for friends and family helping me out while I look for a place; My main PC is in storage and my laptop has technical problems (see above). The search for somewhere to rent has been unfruitful due to the cost of living locally. Since then the company I work for has started a process that may lead to me being made redundant and will at best leave me with much less pay. This means I won't be able to afford to rent and so I've been looking for a new job, also without much luck, and looking into getting some training to do something with better prospects. Basically I've had to put other things first. I would have posted sooner, but things snowballed; I felt awkward about posting about my private life too much and after delaying it just seemed more awkward, but it's not fair of me to say nothing.

I haven't been following the thread lately so apologies to anyone waiting on a reply or similar.

    Thanks again everyone.

Posting to let you all know I'm not dead. I've mentioned it before, but it bears mentioning again that I would be homeless at the moment if not for friends and family letting me sleep on sofas and similar. I'm currently looking for a place I can afford to rent locally (expensive area sadly and I recently just missed a place). I haven't a lot of access to all my stuff and the computer I use for graphic work is included. Previously I was getting at it a bit more, but I have a lot to do lately so the problems have compounded into little work being done on the pack. Luckily (in a sense) the main pack is essentially finished, but other things will only be worked on slowly until I either find somewhere to set my computer up / find somewhere to rent.

Thanks for the continued support guys. Still going through the backlog of messages.

Okay, when I downloaded this I got 3 files, assets, pack, and pack. I don't know how to do this so if someone could tell me how to install in extreme detail I would be so happy.

    Thanks!

Those are the three files and folders inside the .zip archive you downloaded. You want to place the .zip archive in the folder that opens when you click the "Open resource pack folder" button in game. I suggest you right click the download link and click "save as", save it to your desktop (or similar), and copy/cut and paste it into the resourcepack folder.

    Hope all that makes sense.

I hope everyone has had a nice time over the festive season. Things at work have been crazy with Christmas and New Year. I had little time off and spent time at my Mum's house when I could as the whole family gets together this time of year. Things should settle down again soon. Haven't made much extra progress on the CTM stuff since I last posted. Loads of interesting posts from you all since then too which I will be looking over in more detail when I have time.

    Thanks again everyone.

Will have to look into the stairs bug. I think I know the mistake, but it'll likely take a load of text file editing to fix. Cheers for flagging it up.

I wasn't planning on adding flowers / stones to the tops of grass blocks. I want the enhanced stuff to still be mostly default and I found flowers / stones strayed too far. I can do more tests and see if I can figure something out. Different biomes could even have different grass, stone layers vary lighter and darker (visual only), and many other weird things (especially with MCPatcher, sadly OptiFine has less features for texture packs).

Just lately I haven't had time for supporting mod textures. It's a lot of work keeping it all updated. I wanted to set up a forum so I didn't have to manage it, but there were problems with the hosts complaining about file permissions. Ultimately I have to use either a different server (which would cost money), or research some different forum software (which takes time). For now mod support is on hold except for the odd thing I do for personal use and release.

Thanks for the feedback and support everyone.

    Status Report

With Christmas approaching everything has been really hectic (especially at work). I have been slowly working on CTM stuff here and there, but I'm not ready for a full release. I still need to experiment with unmodded random textures (necessary given that people want connected glass and similar mostly?), and catch up with MCPatcher progress to see if it's still crashing. Instead I figure I can release a preview version for those of you who follow the thread.

    Additions:

    • Extra random potion stand (bright green for leaping potions).
    • Random Leaves in Fast Mode should be fixed.
    • Red Sandstone connects like the regular Sandstone.
    • Smooth Red Sandstone also connects.
    • All the new fences and gates have specific textures.
    • Dirt now has three random variations.
    • The side of grass blocks has a few random variations.
    • The snowed-on side texture has randomised dirt parts.
    • Mycelium and Podzol sides have their dirt parts randomised.
    • Iron Trapdoors have specific side textures.
Some things broke in the move to 1.8 and some of those I haven't found a fix for yet. This includes: sugar cane, repeater sides, and glass pane thin edges. I also included the better tiling mossy cobblestone and a different fern texture.

One of the problems I find with making random variations of the different tiles, like I have with dirt, is that I end up staring at them too long and being unable to judge if they work together. Feedback would be nice.

    Preview Download (requires OptiFine).

The posted stone CTM are really nice. I doubt they will end up in the download, but having them included as optional textures for sure. I wish we could have both the connected and non-connected in game. It's the kind of thing I might consider if the modding API comes about and is simple enough to add blocks (no promises). Also makes me wish the Chisel mod had more default styled textures rather than the, admittedly excellent, Painterly ones.

One thing I'd like feedback on is an idea I had for random mob skins. I will use cows as a stand in as they inspired the idea. A lot of packs add a load of different random mob textures so you end up with herds of wild cows that are all different sorts. Personally I find this looks messy, but I like the variation so instead I plan to have certain species of cow be found in specific biomes. This would mean individual biomes would have mostly uniform cows (with some variation). Sadly I think this will only be possible with MCPatcher right now like a lot of the more advanced features.

    Thanks again everyone.

I actually don't like this fence texture.. I like the normal one that comes with the pack right now..
But other than that, I can't wait for the 'fancier' pack with hopefully some 3D.. I think my PC can handle it xD

That's a shame. Luckily they are easy enough to remove; Just delete a specific folder and you'll then get the standard wood textures. Some of the other features might end up more complicated to toggle than this, but I'm hoping to limit that.

Like I mentioned before I plan to release an enhanced version of the pack separate from the default download which will have randomised mobs/blocks, connected textures, and maybe even some 3D stuff. The reason for the separate download is that I hear this stuff can be trouble for people with weaker PCs. It also gives me more creative freedom.

Working towards this goal I first need to get all the old features working in 1.8+ which is what I've been doing lately. With 1.8 we can have random block textures without having to use any mods or patches, but I'm yet to experiment with this. Right now I am focusing on getting it all working in OptiFine; People in the MCPatcher thread are reporting crashes and so I'll wait for that to stabilise. Some of the old features don't work in OptiFine yet either and I can't seem to fix them (sugar cane for example).

Just thought I should let you all know what I've been up to. I hope to get a release out soon, but I want to fix more of it first.

    Cheers again everyone.

Edit: Finally got the new fences and gates working.

Just posting to let everyone know I'm still around despite the lack of posts. Things have been extra hectic at work lately owing to Christmas being upon us.

I have had some time to work on tweaking the main font, but it's not ready yet. Still trying to find out what some of the characters are (can't find a list anywhere).

    Quote from JamieH93»

I would support this when you get time or If you still want to.

It might be worth making a FAQ with Commonly asked questions too.

If it was to happen, It would probably be best to get a Lock on this thread and a Link to the new one as the last post.

I wouldn't be starting a new thread, just not replying to the currently missed messages, but answering new ones from then on. The main reason for this being that the size of the thread acts as a good advertisement. A request would be made for anyone who is still waiting for an answer to post their question again. A FAQ is a good idea so long as people read it.

    Thanks again everyone.

As planned I did some work on the red cat this weekend and finally have it ready for release. I also included a much nicer clay texture by creepit34 so cheers for that .

With this update all the default textures are pretty much finished. Those I have left (snow, guardian beam, etc) are all textures I'm unsure about replacing as no matter what I do they look much less faithful in game. I have been submitted textures for all these and even have some of my own which will end up in the alternate textures download. This means I can work on other things until the next update with an initial focus on getting the OP sorted again, and getting OptiFine and MCPatcher compatible versions up with addded features. Edit: I also have a list of textures that need tweaking and want to get the alternate textures download updated.

I did this, and glass pane textures aren't working. Glass blocks are connected.

It sounds like you are using an older version of the pack and Minecraft than 1.8? It also sounds like you have connected glass textures, but don't want this? If you are using OptiFine it should be in the graphics options somewhere. If you are using MCPatcher you'll have to delete some files from inside faithful32pack.zip, but which files depends on which version of MC you are using. If I have all this wrong please post again with more detail.

    Thanks again everyone.

wow im surprised no one even read my last 3 posts. and prolly not even this one

Please don't spam the thread like this. I haven't had much time to work on the pack lately and am very behind with answering posts. The time I have I've been using to work on the pack instead of catching up on here.

It might be worth starting fresh and ignoring missed posts, but I don't know how people would feel. I guess anyone with questions they still need answers for could post again. I am undecided and would ideally like to answer all missed posts.

Another small update this week, got the sponge and wet sponge done.

Last weekend I didn't have time due to having my shifts moved around to make up for people being sick and others on holiday. It sucks, but I feel I have to help the team when they're in dire need. It looks like my post last weekend got ate by the forum; Is it having those problems again?

Next weekend I plan to try getting the red cat textures looking decent, they are proving tricky as ever.

    Thanks again folks.

The work I was going to do today has been scuppered by my parents needing a babysitter at the last minute. There is a chance I'll still have some time, but it depends when my brother appears to take over. I'm leaving now to go round their place.

    Cheers everyone.

I would like to suggest making the fire layers lower. The fire is so blinding and covers the entire screen. It is horrible for pvp. Other than that, this is the best texture pack ever! :D

On the mod support page there is an alternate textures download which contains shorter fire.

    Update Time

Continuing with the plan to get at least a small update out despite not having much time. New in this update is the Alex skin and I fixed the server buttons. The hair ended up taking ages and I scrapped a few versions before the one in the release. The sponge is still proving tricky to get looking both faithful and decent. I considered including the guardian beam, but like with a handful of other textures I'm not sure if it looks right in higher definition. Will have to experiment some more.
