Please make the mist wolf tamable and then ride able! That would be so fun! You should tame them with a raven feather (or other) and then you can also ride them. If a mob attacks you they will kill it with you.

Please don't. The denizens of the forest would not be quick to mindlessly obey strangers to their dark groves.

posted a message on [WIP] Winter Apocalypse - Survival
Depending on how you decide to implement the temperature, you could have placed blocks or certain blocks function differently, or actually change into a different block altogether.

For example, using a ranged gauge, different elevations would have different base temperatures to them, that change the longer into the world or the farther towards the core. If a small chest was placed in your house up at surface level on day two, you might come back to a block replacing it, such as a frozen chest that you'd have to thaw to open and reveal your contents, or risk losing everything by breaking it open. Sadly, I would not know how to make an item that changed block ID's but kept internal contents, so making a chest turn into a frozen chest would require some Minecraft mod magic.

But you see where I'm getting with this.

Torches pop off walls if the temperature gets too cold for them to stay lit, a checking system to test if a room is 'secured' from the outside elements (if the door is left open, or the walls are too thin/poor insulating material) potentially letting in a freezing draft, items that serve no purpose until they freeze, forcing you to return, and hopefully, hopefully, a refrigeration system/chest to keep food from spoiling, or generally going bad and becoming unuseable.

Yes, this would change Minecraft forever. But it would certainly give everyone a use for the new Packed Ice, and a positive use for the oncoming winter apocalypse.

Has the Miner's Delight plant got any other use besides decorative?

Wondering that myself, actually. Although I could hazard a guess that they can be used very plentifully as a marking tool to remind you what path you took down into a cavern. Because they grow underground, having a path of them behind you is very easy to follow once you finish your expedition, without wasting resources on torches.
...Or there's something I missed and they're used in a completely different purpose.

Also, are the Wading boots for use in muddy areas, or do they effect swimming speed as well?

The next update is nearly finished. We're pushing for a release next week, although it might be a bit later. Lots of new content, bug fixes, etc. Most of the new content is decorative stuff, but it looks really really nice.

Take your time, the team's work is always well worth the wait.

I am still having the same problem! Any help?

Having this same problem as well.
In detail, I am running Forge, with .804, and Optifine in the mods folder. I click to run Minecraft, go to the launcher as normal, but once I click, Minecraft just never loads up. Everything else works, if I remove Optifine from the mods folder. The only difference between success and failure seems to be having the Optifine .Jar in the mods folder.

My crouch key resets every time i launch too (new version of Forge?), so i dont think its related to this mod specifically.

I've noticed that my keys to switch arrow type become reset every launch, though thankfully not my crouch as well. Is this something that has been fixed in some way and I haven't realized it, or something forgeside and not your problem? My only additional keys come from Rei's minimap and a recipe guidebook (craftguide, not NEI). So far I have not seen any posts for a fix or arrow pointing out where this issue is coming from.

    (Fire charge iron ring recipe)

I'd second this idea, for the 8 iron & fire charge. Easy to create, and requires the implementation of a potentially dangerous item. That and an iron box gives a wide potential array of block picture choices.

I'm agreeing with both nukularpower and Steelflame. Sometimes, its the little things in life that make the biggest impact on you. Jungle spiders feel like they belong in vanilla jungles now.

Without breaking the silence any more about your advice to Jeb on the Canyon/Disco Mountain biome, could you tell us if there are any plans to include additional biomes in the future?

Maybe more biomes from BOP, perhaps?

Also, to everyone looking for more lava pits in the Hot Springs, I have personally found plenty of both underground and aboveground lava lakes and pits throughout the biome. Usually feetfirst. Perhaps setting up a mining expedition in the 2nd most lava filled biome short of Volcanoes was a bad idea...

I've been watching your posts in the BOP topic, awaiting this texture pack since you first asked about how it would work with the grasses. The preview pictures look incredible.

Definitely giving this a download. Fantastically done.

I had to switch to Magic Launcher during the 1.5.2 update, and while it was easy to add mods and turn them on and off, the new Minecraft for 1.6 is far easier than Magic is. I agree with Vort3x, try giving vanilla minecraft with the Forge Installer a spin. Everything is easy again.

posted a message on Dynamic Lights - portable and moving lightsources
For everyone that loves dynamic lights, I might make a suggestion for you that will change your Minecraft experience even more: I heard of a mod that changes the lights ingame to significantly darker proportions. Advanced Darkness, as the mod is called, changes the gamma to significantly lower your light brightness and additionally enlarge the areas that mobs can spawn in. In the past, I truly enjoyed playing with both Dynamic Lights and my Gamma turned to -1, just like Advanced Darkness does, without the additional mob dangers.

If anyone wants a dark time of their own, I'd highly recommend it. Go to the options.txt of the Minecraft folder, and in that file, change Gamma to -1. Be sane about it though, and copy the old number down somewhere, so you don't ruin Minecraft forever when you want to change back and can't get the number right. 0.9577465 is what my own is usually at by default.

In brief; not trying to steal any credit from either Dynamic Lights or Advanced Darkness. I'd just like to show both groups how the two mods enhance each others' experience.

posted a message on Dynamic Lights - portable and moving lightsources
Dynamic Lights has completely changed the way I play Minecraft. I truly enjoy every caving adventure or night exploration with a torch in my hand. However, with the dawn of 1.6.1 and 1.6.2, I have hit some form of a bug.

While it alone may not be the case, I have crashed my computer (not just minecraft, the entire OS had to be forced off then turned on again) each time I had Dynamic lights installed after 1.6.1. I have changed it out for the most up to date edition, changed my forge when that fiasco happened earlier, but to no avail. Each time, I am able to play in Minecraft with dynamic lights working for me, but between two minutes and two hours into the game, everything crashes. The computer screen goes black, the current sound byte loops, and the fans are permanently on high.

I am uncertain what is specifically causing this to occur, as the problem has happened with additional mods and without them. I have tried with only Dynamic Lights, with Dynamic lights and Ruins, and with my full suite of mods (minimap, BOP, Ruins, flower pots). Sadly, I have lately just played without this mod installed, because I value my saves and my sanity. I am more than willing to find a way to make this work again, but I do not know what steps, if any, I should take to resolve this issue.

So: Can anyone shed some "Light" on the subject?
    My most sincere thanks.
