Combat was never the strong point in Minecraft, but this pretty well put the final nail in that coffin for me. The whole argument for the change seems to be "But now you have to think about attacking!" But this is Minecraft, not Warcraft. The bow nerf, okay, I could understand because machine gun bows was silly even if it was fun. Clearing caves is an absolute pain in the rear now, oh you missed that Creeper / Skeleton Archer? Well I hope you weren't too attached to that four health you just lost. I turned it down to easy and it still was so painful I just quit. This is a WotLK-Blizzard-tier change, akin to the "We're nerfing X because it's too strong in Arena 2v2" patches of that era. I can't even talk about any of the other changes because trying to just mine for a little while (you know, like the name of the game, Minecraft?) made me quit when not even dying to the Capra Demon ten times did.
It sounds like there's two ways to fix your problem. The first would be if you're on a LAN (which I think you are since you mentioned you all "have the same IP address". Open a terminal window and type in ifconfig -a, which will display a list of network interfaces. You're looking for the one you're currently using (I'm not sure about the naming conventions for unix systems, but on linux it's typically something like eth0 for wired or wlan0 for wireless). It should be something like 192.168.1.XXX. Use that IP address to connect to the server you're hosting.
If they're not in your LAN, it gets a little more cimplicated. You will have to set up port forwarding on your router, which is a different process for every router. If you have to do this, I would also suggest assigning your server computer a designated IP address, because most routers change the addresses of the connected computers as they connect and disconnect.
Ignorance. We have the culmination of humanity's achievements at our fingertips, and all the answers in the world are but a few keystrokes away, yet people still hold to their own uninformed opinions.
I'm going to put in my two cents here. I understand the "balance" of the situation, and how certain foods were "overpowered", but holy hell people are talking about balance in Minecraft? I bought the game in 2010 because it offered a fun, open world sandbox game that could generate infinitely different worlds whenever I wanted. It seems every other update now is going further and further away from the game's roots, and it's aggravating. Now, some of you will say, "Just play peaceful", but peaceful has no enemies to keep me on my toes, and regenerating health (I guess it's considered permanent ten hunger now). This quickly gets boring. So, as someone who had previously found hunger to be an unnecessary and annoying factor in the game, I have found the current change to hunger has only expanded on the annoyance.
It's not like my opinion means anything though, these updates keep the game popular, even if it means completely disregarding the game's humble beginnings.
I don't necessarily 'hate' them, but I feel like they're being unoriginal and/or lazy. Do you really want to be the hundredth Mr. Smile? I apologize if there is a Mr Smile100 in this thread.
You could try deleting the bin folder. Go to your Minecraft folder (should be under C:\Users\[the user Minecraft was installed under]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft ) and just delete it. Then try redownloading. If that still doesn't work, it could be an issue with your Java, in which case you should go to http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp to update it. If that fails too, there might just be a problem with the update itself, and you should try again in a few hours.
A lot of songs remind me of Runescape. I could spend hours killing the same monster while listening to the same song, and not be bored. The most prominent is killing Ankous while listening to Viva la Vida. Such good times.
I worded this wrong. I meant to ask can I make creepers look like my character or chickens look like spiders?
Not really. The character model underneath the textures don't change with the tectures. Basically, it's like the .png files are just plastered onto a wire mesh. If it doesn't fit (i.e. it's from a different mob) it won't work.

But hey, at least PvPers are happy, maybe.

Hope this helps.

And unless you tell me that, I just have to assume it's for no reason other than MrRandom was taken. *shrug*

Yeah, that's when you know it's better to just find a new server. Hopefully without such touchy administrators.
