    posted a message on The Grinning Skulls

    I'm hosting a realm with a ton of builds on a massive world (2gb!). It's 90% survival with some creative thrown in when the mood is right. We do play mini games and adventure maps about once a month.

    PvP is allowed but must be consensual. We have a command block driven PvP mini game arena that's nearly complete. Several good starting areas and open to creating a new one for 1.9. Right now there only 2-3 active players but we're hoping to bring in at least one or two more with this post.

    We're not picky about what and where you build or how you like to play. We just enjoy having company, sharing each other's builds, and collaborating on some of the bigger projects. A few screenshots are attached.

    I look forward to hearing from yall =)

    Going to try to pair players up in case you guys didn't see all the posts...but you two seem pretty similar. Why not try to contact each other and see if it works out?

    Because of the time difference. I almost sent a msg until i saw he was in the UK. Thanks for the thought though!

    posted a message on 1.8 NEW FLOATING TEXT TECHNIQUE (NO MORE NEED FOR FLOATING HORSES!)

    @eagle

    The first command is summoning an invisible and invulnerable armor stand that is named. Let's break it down a little:

    There's the summon command with relative coordinates ( ~ ~ ~) You can make the text higher and lower by changing the middle one. Note that it's a relative coordinate so it would look more like "~ ~0.4 ~" than actually using the xyz.

    It's using a few simple tags that can easily be searched. The 'CustomName:' tag is the most important though. Insert your custom name here. It has the exact same effect as using a name tag with that same name on an item. As a matter of fact you could even craft an armor stand, name it, and then do a command to make that armor stand invisible and invulnerable as well. The nogravity is nice so it can float exactly where you want it.

    /summon ArmorStand ~ ~ ~ {Invulnerable:1b,NoGravity:1b,Invisible:1b,CustomNameVisible:1b,CustomName:Insert name here}

    Whoops you misnamed your armor stand or it's in a bad spot. Now to remove it you have to target the armor stand in your next command. Because I use invisible armor stands a LOT for aesthetic effects I've gotten pretty good at manipulating them. So lets break down removing the armor stand:

    /entitydata @e[type=ArmorStand,r=5] {Invisible:0, Invulnerable:0}

    So this is saying that we are going to change the entity data of the nearest entity (@e) that is an armor stand (type=ArmorStand), within a radius of 5 blocks (r=5) from the command block or person executing the command. The altered entity will now be visible (invisible:0) and vulnerable (Invulnerable:0). So put this in a command block within 5 blocks of the floating text. When the command block is activated you can destroy the armor stand.

    /entitydata @e[r=10,type=ArmorStand] {Rotation:[90f,0f]}

    To expound on how this is working and why this method is really neat let's look more at what's possible with an invisible invulnerable armor stand.

    /summon ArmorStand ~ ~0.1 ~-0.6 {Invisible:1b,Invulnerable:1b,PersistenceRequired:1b,NoBasePlate:1b,NoGravity:1b,ShowArms:1b,Equipment:[{id:"iron_sword",Count:1b},{},{},{},{}],DisabledSlots:2039583,Pose:{RightArm:[270f,0f,90f]}}

    I got this guy from Reddit the other day. A lot of times what's found on these threads aren't perfect for what you want to do so you have to tweak them a bit. This is summoning the same kind of armor stand for the floating text but also no baseplate (so less mass that blocks player interaction) and also has arms and equipment. So now there are floating weapons you can place in your world! The problem was that it needed to be higher so I didn't have to break up some redstone work and also needed to be turned 90 degrees to look right in the place that I wanted it. Let's alter entity data again

    /entitydata @e[r=10,type=ArmorStand] {Rotation:[90f,0f]}

    This will rotate the armor stand 90 degrees so now the sword is facing the right way. Yay! There are a lot of great things you can do with invisible armor stands. Because they're entities you could also use them for special effects like an amazing fireworks show (invisible floating armor stands that have timed particle effects) or maybe bombs that drop from your airship (turn gravity on the armor stand and give it particle effects when it hits the ground).

    Armor stands are fun =)

    EDIT: The kill commands listed in here are great for removing the stands but can be dangerous. I like to make them visible so you can see where it was and how to tweak the rotations.

    posted a message on Vanilla Survival - Dungeon help

    I have a vanilla survival server and I created a dungeon that's well hidden. The dungeon requires the player to solve a bunch of puzzles to get out. 2 of the puzzles require the player to place blocks. I figured I would put the player into adventure mode so they couldn't break blocks but it turns out you can't place them either!

    So my question is this: Is there any way to allow players to place blocks but not to break them?

    This is a really great find and I'm now using it without error on my server. The remove command that you posted also works. Thank you!

    posted a message on Realms server: Massive survival map with a custom adventure dungeon and consensual PvP

    We recently migrated from private hosting to realms to resolve performance issues. We have a massive world. The End has been reset so the dragon is fair game and if he's taken down again we will spawn another. We also have a hand crafted adventure dungeon that makes heavy use of command blocks. Completing the dungeon allows you access to the hidden admin house which will grant you a reward of your choice (all vanilla no superweapons or anything like that)

    Our player base is mostly around 30 years old but we don't have anything against younger players as long as they are respectful. As for builds there's tons of free space both near and far from existing builds. We have 2 main clusters of player builds that are far apart and a lot of straggler builds.

    We play on Survival mode (except for the adventure dungeon) normal difficulty but it is worth mentioning that since the server has been up for well over a year that the local difficulty and server wide timer are capped in most areas so the monsters are usually armored and they hit hard.

    We have a very basic battle arena and are interested in building a much larger and complex one with traps and tricks. PvP must be agreed upon by both players but can be agreed to be long lasting or just duels so that our players can enjoy the game the way they want to. Long term goals for the server is just to have a lot of builds and people that enjoy playing together.

    I do host a mumble voice chat although few of our regulars make use of it. We do allow redstone, lava, extreme exploration (no boundary), and a lot of other things that I see banned on other advertisements. There are Nether tunnels connecting nearly everything and everyone as well so you can choose how you like to travel (easy or overworld)

    The rules are extremely simple:

    • Do not destroy or alter other people's builds
    • PvP must be agreed upon by all parties involved
    • No stealing / griefing in general

    Because it is a realm server it is invite only similar to whitelist. If this all sounds appealing let me know and we'll get shoot one out to you ASAP.

The End has been reset so the dragon is fair game and if he's taken down again we will reset it again. Right now most of the usual players rarely login so we're looking to bring new people in. Realms is invite only.

    Our player base is mostly around 30 years old but we don't have anything against younger players as long as they respect other people's builds and possessions. As for builds there's tons of free space both near and far from existing builds. We have 2 main clusters of player builds that are far apart and a lot of straggler builds.
