In other news, signs are now stackable to 16, for 16 times the rock drilling luxury.

So, the Zistonian Battle Signs can now be duplicated (or destroyed) by stacking. Huh.

my question is : will i have to have minecraft open and running for her to be able to play in our shared world?

Presumably, yes. As Toxic Waste said, it's like a server; only available while it's running.

From what I know, the server texture option is just something along the lines of "Hey, this server has a recommended texture pack it would like you to use; would you like to download and use it?"

Nothing is forced, just suggested. :P

posted a message on Mobs may Spawn on *Top* Half Slabs soon

I thought mobs always have spawned on double slabs, though?

And I doubt that it's impossible to make a non-transparent block unspawnable, just look at Mycelium.

Yes, full doubleslab blocks do spawn mobs. Also, it's not mycelium that blocks mob spawns, it's the mushroom island biome itself. If you find a mushroom island and flatten it and replace the whole thing with grass, it retains its mob-free status. :)

Wait. Why would you put an Ender Chest in the Ender Chest if you need an Ender Chest to get to the Ender Chest in order to use said Ender Chest?

    [Insert photoshopped inception logo]

Find new suitable location for base of operations. Plop down Ender Chest from your inventory. Grab a new Ender Chest from the Ender Chest. Rinse, lather, and repeat until all desired locations have Ender Chests and are soapy and clean.

12w26a should be fine for running multiplayer on. It runs fairly smooth and the only inconvenience is making sure your friends know how to install a snapshot. Unfortunately, there's no Bukkit version of a snapshot server, but 1.3 has plenty of fun features in the meantime regardless. :)

since 1.3 spawners will support more spawner info...
already hostile endermen, zombie pigmen , and the worst of all.. hostile iron golem spawners.
    the end is nigh!

He probably won't use the hostile iron golems too much, probably only in the part of any map where he would normally give us iron. He's going to make us fight for our iron by making us fight against our iron.

posted a message on Ender Map
    Quote from Mrwazztazz

    1. I strongly encourage you to only allow the ender maps to locate the other player that are visible to the sky

At this point I'm not sure this should even be an ability of the map due to Tom Tzu's reasoning, but yes, if it did have the player tracker, I'm in favor of it only tracking sky-exposed players.

    2. Also for the second poll voting thingy its very even. I personally think it would be OP if you can use the ender maps when your are not in scope with the map. It would also give ender eyes a limit and not be too too powerful

To me, this depends on what other restrictions Ender Maps have. Under no circumstances do I want the player tracker to be active if a player is outside the scope of the map. I'm somewhat alright with being able to use the remote viewing feature if the map scale remains the same, since the player would potentially be too far away from where they're spying to act if anything requires action. I'm definitely alright with remote viewing from out of range if the maps are scaled down, which would restrict the player's spying ability more by requiring them to craft more Ender Maps to get the range they desire. At the same time, as others have pointed out, scaling down Ender Maps grants users greater precision in selecting a location to view.

    3. For the crafting recipe i still think it should be one paper surrounded by 8 ender eyes. first of all because i think that the ender maps should be (when they are crafted) started from scratch so that you have to explore the world again to exploit the power of the ender maps and secondly because the other recipes that use obsidian i don't feel like obsidian relates to endermen so much.

I'm not a big fan of that specific recipe because of how highly expensive that is; an average player isn't going to be stocked with tons of Ender Pearls and blaze powder. Being eight times as expensive as Ender Chests, which arguably have a lot more practical power than Ender Maps, seems a bit much. I do agree, though, that it would probably be better to have the crafting recipe result in a fresh map, especially for technical reasons.

As for Endermen's relation to obsidian, I disagree. Endermen and obsidian are both black, obsidian towers line the landscape of the End (a dimension that consists of only three types of blocks, counting bedrock from crystals), Endermen have a lot of hearts and as such are durable in a fashion vaguely similar to obsidian, they are surrounded by the same portal particles you see from the Nether portals (which are made of obsidian), and their weakness to water reminds me of the fact that obsidian is created by lava being cooled by water. :P

    4. Finally i think that when you use the endermap you could only use it for a limited time between 30 seconds and a minute or so and then the camera would start shaking and if you don't exit then the ender map would be destroyed. This is based off the unreliability of the ender eyes when looking for strongholds. They will sometimes pop and sometimes not. Also the cool down after using the ender eyes should be longer, maybe a minute.

I don't think the map should be destroyed, especially with the expensive recipe you're for, but having a reasonable time limit on the remote viewing might be alright. However, having such a time limit punishes people who would use an Ender Map simply to load distant chunks and let things grow, and also takes away some of the risk of being distracted somewhere else for a long time and having someone just walk up to and attack your body. Concerning the cooldown time, I don't have a particularly strong opinion on it one way or another. I just think there should be at least a small cooldown for manually exiting remote viewing mode, and some manner of punishment for getting attacked in remote viewing mode.

    Quote from lucariomaster1

Great idea, but seems just a bit OP. However, maybe if it consumed an Ender Pearl to put you into view-mode? (If Steve tries to use the map without a pearl it displays a chat message telling the player that (s)he needs an EP.)

I think you might be overestimating the power of the map, even in a PVP environment. Remember, in eye form, you cannot interact with the environment, so you cannot act on what you see until you stop looking at that location. It offers a tactical advantage in the right hands, but in other cases the remote viewing ability is little more than novelty. Asking for an Ender Pearl each time you simply want to look around, especially when you consider the relative rarity of Endermen outside the End, seems like a demanding price. :P

I'm probably going to update the original post sometime soon with some of these arguments to aid decision making. Thanks for the support guys. :)

Edit: I talk too much. >_>

    Thank you! :3

Keep in mind I had no idea what MCedit was when I bought Minecraft, and I got better over time. I'm sure anyone could do the same!

    :)

You're quite welcome, and I will keep that in mind. :P I already have some skill with WorldEdit, but I need a lot more practice with MCedit to properly make use of its variety of features and the ability to make block update traps like with falling sand or the anti-bridging bomb. An unfortunate thing about MCedit though is that the most recent versions of it aren't compatible with Intel graphics, which is what I'm stuck with. D:

Vechs, from what I've seen of you, you seem to have a lot of skills and traits that I find admirable. Your map-making and level-designing abilities are wonderful and the malevolent intent behind all the traps and obstacles is magnificent. Your evil laugh is one that I envy for how properly villainous and intimidating it is, and the way you show off potential new traps for players to perish in is something I've always wanted to do. You also seem fairly responsible, logical, and rational in your views and interactions with the community, particularly in regards to the commissions, your devotion to this series, and the general way you speak in this thread (including the way the troll was handled and your take on it afterwards).

As a Ditto, I'd so transform into you for a day. As a person, when 1.3 comes out and all the necessary tools are updated, I really want to try my hand at making a map, and I've had an idea in mind for a long time now. I'm not sure I could ever make something of the caliber of any of your maps, but I will make my best attempt.

Vechs, you are a model evil genius. I look forward to your next map.

I shall now resume shameless lurking.

posted a message on Mobs may Spawn on *Top* Half Slabs soon
Even though this only applies to top half slabs, it's still quite unfortunate. In a lot of cases, particularly with stairs and roofs, bottom and top half slabs are used alternatively to gradually get higher, which means now that unless lit up, half of any alternating slab structure will become a mob breeding ground. Now the necessity to flood every inch of everything with light is back the way it was before, unless the areas you don't want lighting on are half a block lower or higher than everything else.

I have said enough on this matter as is, however.

Wait a minute... could someone theoretically bypass the fact that giant spawners don't work anymore by having them spawn riding something else? I can't quite test this myself at the moment.

Fun fact: Magma Cubes above size... 10-ish are practically invincible to anything but outright despawning. Size 25 has a manageable hitbox (for projectiles, not so much for swords) and would be fun for players to run from occasionally while exploring a large wide open area.

With the new spawners, I thought it might be nice food for thought.

That is interesting, but small chance Vechs does it :( . He is quite firm on fleecy boxes now.

Nothing stopping him from making Endermen the only way you get supplies like torches and wood in a map, though. Heck, if he felt like it he could make it so that all the ores (or just diamond) come from Endermen that spawn at different speeds depending on the ore. He could also make traps where a couple Endermen spawners start bringing forth Endermen holding TNT and redstone torches or where Endermen barricade spider dungeons with more cobwebs. Just Endermen spawning with blocks in hand has endless possibilities, let alone everything the new mob spawners are capable of. :P

posted a message on Has this ever happened to anyone?
    Quote from LMGarrett

So, my friend is 3 months new to minecraft, we were on multiplayer, and we found diamonds.
He asks me if he could have some, I said no until we're out of the cave. He then complains (we're pretty young, so he's not completely mature yet) 5 minutes after repeating asking for diamonds, he falls in lava and dies with all his stuff.

"THAT is why I didn't give the diamonds to you."

I have no idea why I'm asking, but does this happen often for people guiding new minecrafters? :P

Had something similar when I first started running a server. I have a friend who was being extremely annoying and nagging me to be an op, but I didn't trust his temper and destructive tendencies. After I actually told him that, he tried to go on a rampage and burn down the forest surrounding the house of my best friend that I had painstakingly grown and lit up for her as a defense against mobs. I banned him the instant he placed lava because he left me with no other choice.

"THAT is why I didn't want you to be an op."

(For anyone wondering, the lava did burn down A forest, but not his intended one. The intended forest burned down later due to more embarrassing reasons. >_>)
