Well, what's your selling point? There's been maps like this done, for example Skyblock and Survival Island. Those introduce the challenge of isolation. This would just be a stale remake of either one of those unless you add some sort of challenge aspect. Honestly, I can't think of a way to make a flatmap survival interesting.

posted a message on LIEK A BAWS moments.
I'd have to say defeating the mob xp trap on my friend's survival server. I activated the floodgate lever which resulted in mobs pouring out of the spawning area. This was my first time on the server and I had no idea the farm was being upgraded to be more efficient, so the mobs ended up being free to roam around the attack platform. Even though I died, I felt like a true warrior when I came back the third time with potions, a bow, and a sword. I was actually able to push the mobs back into the spawner, which took me the good part of a minecraft day, but when I closed the flood gates only half of it was working because a creeper explosion had disrupted the redstone circuit, needless to say I fought a bit longer and sealed up the gates manually. Felt like a champion even though the redstone still isn't fixed.

posted a message on New Mob AI
I honestly thought this was going to be commenting on how confused mobs get when they drop down a level. I swear, the new pathfinding makes it so when they drop down one block they swivel back and fourth or even in a complete circle before they resume following me. Threw me off a couple times as I was trying to get some records. But yeah didn't expect OP to have some extreme exageration/completely unlucky coincidence. I almost forgot that this is the internet.

posted a message on Mob Behavior: Ocelots
I just thought of this, but what should the "Puma-esque" mob drop? It can't just be there. Well, it could drop a number of things, thanks to the new potion system. Maybe it could drop claws, and the claws will give special benefits to a potion, maybe the ability to climb trees, which just seems ridiculous but it's a start.

posted a message on Mob Behavior: Ocelots
Okay, with the addition of Ocelots and jungles to Minecraft 1.2 I think they've opened up a whole lot of room for some great mob dynamics. Ocelots are pretty rare, from my own experience so far, and, obviously, they run away from the player. Another thing to note is that they are only to be tamed when they come to you.

Well, I feel like the Ocelot could have more depth that would add to the Minecraft jungle experience. Imagine of ocelots became a whole new creature at night, so to speak. Not making them a new mob, but making them hostile; give the ocelots a new behavior. In the night of the jungle the ocelot would stalk the player, and when it gets an open sight line/direct path, it will sprint and attack the player.

Other than that, I could also see adding just a new hostile mob to the jungles; the puma. The puma would be darker coloured and would take on the suggested new behavior mentioned above. This would then make it so that no changes would be required to the ocelot, but would definitely enhance the jungle experience.

Feel free to add or detract from the suggestion, but I feel like it would be a great addition to the minecraft experience.

posted a message on If you could add a new mob to the game how would it be??
I would say mobs that just add the ambiance of the game. Birds in the forest, fish in the water. Not necessarily useful mobs, but just a little here and there to make minecraft seem that much more alive and make SSP a lot less lonely. Maybe even butterflies in a grassland/plains area. If you were to add a hostile mob, I'd make it so that ocelots, in the jungle, will be hostile at night. I feel like that would be a great way to make jungles a bit more fun. I guess that's more of a mob alteration than a new one.

posted a message on How to Make Endermen Scary
This is getting out of haaaaaaaaaand. But in all honesty endermen are more cute than scary as of right now. They make little chirps and sound like they're swallowing air.
    Quote from Neospector

I'd have to agree with this. They can be scary if you play on moody or such and you want them to be scary, but other than that they're still cube-shaped, they still produce pixelated particles just like the rest, friendly part of the game, other than the startling moment when they teleport and you don't know where they are (which isn't that scary to begin with) I don't see the whole appeal to making them the absolute scariest mob.

Hell, I've never even really agreed with the human need to soil ourselves by watching horror flicks. Seriously, why the hell do people want to do that?

I can agree pop-em-out/slasher flicks are just dumb. But, still, I can enjoy the occasional spine tingling, hair raising sensation of fear. It's kind of a primeval thrill type of thing. You get that slight adrenaline rush and when it's over the huge sense of relief outweighs whatever scared you in the first place. It's kind of like a natural high if I were to equate it to anything.

Also, in regards to their teleportation, I would say it's more of a minor annoyance than a scare.

    Quote from WillonForums

Well, Notch can't make it too scary as there are a lot of younger folks who play the game, and that would most likely scare them. But that'd be pretty scary. ;D

Yeah, I was thinking that, but at times I just wish there was just one thing that would be slightly frightening. Aside from ssssssssssssssssssss in the silence of a mineshaft.

Simply make it so that when you look at the enderman your screen starts to fade into darkness, kind of like being near bedrock, and so you're essentially forced to look away, and when you look away the enderman does some sort of shrill scream before it starts teleporting. I feel like that would really immerse a player into the experience and implement a bit of fear factor into the game.
