One thing that our server, it it’s infant state, does not have is the enchanting system. Currently, this system is completely disabled because the default in-game enchantments would wreak havoc on the delicate difficulty balance our game walks. In other words, if we allowed someone to add sharpness IV to their sword as a level 3, it would make the game way too easy. Players would be killing level 5 and 6 mobs with ease, and suddenly the game would be boring. We don’t want to be boring. We want to be fun :D. Despite this, we also do not like the idea of simply brushing vanilla Minecraft features under the rug and pretending they don’t exist. We pride our server on being Vanilla Minecraft with MMORPG elements injected into it, not an MMORPG server that happens to use Minecraft’s gaming core. So, let’s talk a little about where we are heading with getting enchanting re-implemented on the server.

What Makes a Good Enchantment System?

Let’s first look at how items are traditionally crafted and enchanted in Minecraft (as of 1.8, that is.)

    1. The items needed to make the weapon/armor is gathered
    2. The item of choice is crafted on a crafting table
    3. Player gains experience from playing mincraft
    4. Player collects thing needed to enchant with
    5. Player builds enchantment table
    6. Player enchants item
    7. Player screams when crappy item is made

Now, let’s look at what these steps do to make enchanting fun.

    1. Players have a reason to mine, chop down trees, gather materials
    2. Players have a reason to go to more dangerous places, like the Nether.
    3. There is a sense of value in great items because they’re difficult to obtain.

Finally, let’s touch base on the biggest concerns we have with the current enchantment system.

    1. It’s too easy to gain the levels necessary to enchant an item.
    2. It’s too easy to acquire the materials needed for enchanting (lapis)
    3. Default enchantments will break our custom enchantment system.

We don’t even use the default enchantments since we replaced everything with our own system.

    Two Birds With One Stone

Currently, you can craft an item on our game, but the item is just a basic weapon with no enchantments. Odds are, by the time you’re level 10 and can wear a gold sword you probably have a much better enchanted wooden sword. This fact gives players no incentive to craft their own weapons and armor, because they will find better options on their journey anyway. We love our customized mob drops, but we don’t like that players have no reason to craft in Minecraft.

This sword is way more powerful than a gold sword with no enchantments.

The plan is to kill 2 birds with one stone with an effective enchantment system. Here’s the general concept we have in mind:

    1. The items needed to make the weapon/armor is gathered
    2. The item of choice is crafted at a crafting table
    3. Player Levels up to the required enchantment level
    4. Player gathers items different items needed to make enchantment (lapis, ghast tears, etc)
    5. Items are taken to enchanter to add custom-made enchantment

The hope is we can help players create their own luck.

    Wrapping it Up

This enchanting system as a whole is still very much in the research phase, so don’t expect it to be implemented any time soon. Once implemented, We believe this system will give people plenty of reasons to explore the more dangerous places of the world, like the Nether. We hope to add some complexity to the enchantment system by requiring a multitude of different items to craft items with. For in-game balancing purposes, there will be a level requirement for different enchantment levels. This prevents a level 1 player from instantly having access to an item that they shouldn’t have until level 10. Instead of using the traditional enchantments, we will be using our own custom-made enchantments that make sense in the way our game is being built.

For now, you’ll just have to find your awesome gear in our Dungeons.

What is an MMORPG and the Ender Race?

First off, let’s take a look at the first part of the questions and find our what MMORPG stands for. As you may have guessed, it stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game! Still confused? A role playing game, or RPG, is a type of game where you take on the role of a character and take on their role and responsibility. For example, anyone who have played Pokemon has played the ‘role’ of a young Pokemon trainer who completes quests, catches and trains Pokemon, and tries to conquer the Elite 4! In the case of the Ender Race server you take on the role of a warrior who must fight creatures to increase experience levels, unlock new dungeons and loot, and try to conquer the final boss — the Ender Dragon King.

So now let’s look at the massively multiplayer online part, or MMO, which basically means anything that offers the ability to play for other role players in an online environment that allows for collaboration. The Ender Race public Minecraft RPG server is the MMO portion and the leveling, questing, loot, and dungeons is the RPG element!

Example of custom dungeon boss loot

    Custom Loot Enchants

    Custom Loot Enchants

You can spend days just constantly grinding mobs and gathering unique gear, while selling trash to vendors. You can trade with other players or sell your items for a profit You can group up, level together, complete dungeons, or just talk. Most importantly, we leave almost all of the vanilla Minecraft gameplay options. You have the ability to claim land and build whatever you want. Add friends to your claim to have them help out and do everything you would in vanilla Minecraft. Gather resources and sell them to try and become the richest player on the server!

Does the Ender Race Require Client Mods?

Nope! That's the beauty of our system is that any Minecraft PC players can just join our server and play. While there are texture packs and shader packs that add to the overall effect, none of that is a requirement to play. Simply join the server, enter the portal, and play!

    No Mods Required!

    No Mods Required!

What Will the Money go Towards?

For any of you who have experience running servers, you will understand that there is a lot involved in the process. There are server rental fees (which include massive amounts of RAM), advertising, bandwidth fees, web hosting fees, and many other little expenses that can nickle and dime a project to death.

    • All money earned goes directly into the project!
    • Depending on total amount funded, we want to have enough money to fund the project for the first year.
    • An advertising campaign will be created to help bring new players to the server and increase the chances of success!
    • Leftover money (whats left after operating costs and advertising) will go into hiring additional developers and designers to help push the project into overdrive and bring in items from our wishlist.

    Unique Dungeons and Events

    Unique Dungeons and Events

So What Happens After the First Year?

Our goal is to offer incentives to players to donate to our server as well as purchase unique items and ranks through our store. This will take a while to get going, but based on our projections we will be able to get the server to sustain itself and ensure it will be around for a very long time!

    Risks and challenges

The biggest challenge with this is developing the server to do exactly what we want it to. The tasks that we are trying to accomplish would be daunting to a novice programmer, but with over a decade of web and software development under my belt, I know that this project will be attainable. We are also joined by Alex, a very talented web developer who does amazing things with websites. We have many talented server administrators including Alex and Anthony that will ensure things run smoothly! The only risk we are left with is finances, but being the gamer that we are, we will fund this ourselves if we have to! By supporting us you are ensuring that the only other risk we have is covered!

We hope you back our project, but if you can't we would appreciate it if you would share it with your friends!

posted a message on Looking for Beta Testers for our Custom-built RPG server

The Ender Race is a dungon-crawling MMO with a classic Minecraft twist. Level up, fight mobs that get stronger as you progress, find awesome loot, build a shop, gather materials, and much more. We re-made The Ender Race from the ground up to be a much more sustainable version than before. The overwhelming majority of the plugins that we previously relied on have been replaced with much cleaner programming that is giving us access to things we couldn't do before.

We are ramping up and preparing to go into closed beta very soon, and are looking for beta testers. If you're interested, please visit http://www.enderrace.com/ and fill out the form. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Yes, you should most definitely phase in and out when transitioning between different topics. Scheduling when YouTube videos get published can be extremely helpful with this sort-of thing because you can get all of the content made and then have it post in a timely manner.

What else is good about branching to different content is it gives you an opportunity to have more things to send people to that belongs to you. Someone posts on the forum asking about how to make a specific thing using redstone? No problem, send them to your tutorial. Is someone looking for a fun server and someone to play along with? Send them your let's play. Simply put, content can be used to allow you to give someone the information they need when the time comes to give it to them in a truly outstanding manner. I love it!
