Hey guys! Calm down! I didn't say "you need to buy 16gb of ram and Windows XP". I said I have 16gb of ram and Windows 7. Also, if you want a decent computer that is fine for Minecraft, buy CPU around 3Ghz, Windows XP and 3gB of ram. I had that setup, and MC was running smoothly on it.
P.S. Okay, okay, I missed that part with having Windows 7 installed when I described my current setup. Sorry. My bad.And there is Windows XP 64 bit.
My celeron D cpu and 1.256gb of ram and a GTX9800 was able to play minecraft at far render distance at 30 FPS.........

http://techreport.co...me-benchmarking Article cited by both anandtech and PC Perspective one of the first I can find to look at why FPS is not everything http://www.anandtech...r-roadmap-fraps talks about the effect, how AMD is planning on fixing it and why FRAPS benchmarks are not what you are seeing. http://www.anandtech...hmarking-part-1 More for Anandtech mostly talking about FCAT and again about benchmarking what the user sees not what the game engine thinks its outputting http://www.pcper.com...formance-Testin and finally the PC Perspective article which goes into more detail about the cause of the stutter (dropped and runt frames) than the others.
(all of those have been linked previously)
Once again let me explain, the visual effect what you actually see is stutter, something that people have been seeing since the cards launched, this is as a result of dropped and improperly rendered or runt frames, according to PC Perspective their testing methodology has been refined over close to a calender year before arriving at the setup that was used to obtain those benchmarks.
The article by Scott Wasson of tech report dates to September 2008 and the 6000 series cards which exhibited the same stuttering issues, presumably caused by the same dropped and runt frames.
Debating this is not going to get us far there are a few threads on OCN, Anadtech and TomsHardware talking about the PC Perspective article that may be worth a read
All i'm hearing is something that has been happening to any crossfired or SLI'ed card since forever.
