posted a message on Fuel efficient furnace, stop wasting coal.
I made one of these but I took a different approach. I based mine off the filter design so when there are at least 9 items in a hopper it triggers a timer and dumps exactly 8 items into the furnace, which is loaded with coal at all times. It then sends a signal to check to see if there is more ore to smelt.

I hooked this up to another automatic filter system that will automatically add coal and the proper ore and then move these to a storage room so all that needs to be done is dump all items into a single chests and it will sort, and smelt efficiently.

posted a message on Was the Redstone Update worth it?
While I really like the new additions I am a little disappointed at what was broken, and I still wish for a few additional things to, vertical redstone, insulated redstone, toggle blocks (1.5 will break the smallest t-flipflops and I've yet to see any as small created for 1.5), and keys/lock blocks.

I don't agree with colored redstone (it's REDstone and it's simplicity is beautiful) but a way to insulate it would be sufficient, I'm thinking glass covered so it acts as a repeater but is still subject to signal degradation that you can see but without the added delay repeaters bring.

posted a message on Will MC Ever Get Mob Shield/Spawn Preventers?
Torches + walls, Poof you've created a safe area. A 2 high wall of dirt is an easy thing to build and it's not hard to make a grid of torches that will 100% stop all mobs from spawning, it doesn't look that bad either. I'm not sure what the least amount of torches you can place to stop spawning is, I usually use one every 4 or 5 blocks.

My Spawn, looks fine to me

Nearby village (I mc-edited the walls for a server)

A little more thought on the subject and I've decided it wouldn't be to bad an option to add a stop mob spawn function to the beacon block.

posted a message on Advanced Item Detection Lock
Sorry but this won't always work. Depending on location a hopper might pass an item to the side before the one below it has a chance to pull the item out. So not all locations on a map will a "correct" password be capable of being submitted. I came across this problem when trying to set up a waterless item sorting system and it was very unreliable as sometimes it would sort and sometimes it wouldn't

I'm also still waiting for all colors of wool half slabs and stairs. More tools, shapes, and color pallets doesn't limit creativity but it opens it up far and wide. Sure maybe you had to be a little more creative when using less materials but having more opens all kinds of doors. Material combinations and shapes and structures that are now able to be built. Things that took up ridiculous amounts of space can be compressed and more detail added.

posted a message on Snapshot 13w06a is out! Apparently just bug fixes.
    Quote from Wanderer

I can't tell what the bug is or how it works. Maybe including an actual description of it would help.

It's a double extender, when the line of redstone is powered it has a >50% chance to power the lower set of pistons before the piston next to the block the redstone is on. This is not how it is in every update before and including 1.4.7 or how you would expect it to act. With the lower set of pistons getting power and extending before the top has a chance to they cannot extend and will produce a graphical glitch as well.

does that mean their inconsistent delay is back? they fixed that on purpose.

I love me some comparator cannons, but I don't want people's redstone to break in the process.

I would say yes, I just did a quick test using a loop of repeaters and comparators and a one tick pulse but the results do seem to be inconsistent.

The comparators updating blocks constantly is back! I'm happy.

So it seems, it works for dispensers and droppers but not for forcing piston updates. So it's not the same thing exactly but at least we should get our auto emptying dispensers/droppers and vertical item transportation back.

This was supposed to be fixed a while ago, I guess it got broken again in the snapshots. I have noticed a few frozen repeaters but never really gave it much thought.

And the one easily reproducible >50% failure rate on pistons bug has still been over looked. Funny because it was reported plenty of times and always marked as a "Duplicate" for the other piston bug that was fixed and was only a graphical glitch and didn't actually break anything.

posted a message on Sprinting up stairs!
I've always used both, Half slabs make great spiral staircases which I use a lot.
A lot of people do not even leave enough headroom to run down stairs in the first place.
Now if we could just get a dedicated sprint key, double tap w has got to be the worst sprint interface I have ever been forced to use in a game. It fails to actually sprint 2 out of 3 times and when you REALLY need to run you REALLY need to run. Plus sometimes you tap forward and you end up sprinting off a cliff.

posted a message on 13w05a: Piston generator exploit!
I can't see but chances are they are just ghost pistons. Your client thinks they are there but the server knows better so chances are they disappear before you can use them.

Edit: Yes they are ghost pistons, if you go into survival and try to pick them up nothing happens. Even right clicking them in creative will make them vanish

posted a message on Fixing lighting bugs? Does this mean no new render engine?
    Quote from rodabon

If you overhaul a car its still the same car, just revamped. As I understood it debugman18 is correct, dinnerbone was just trying to do some lighting stuff/fixes in the old engine by modifying it.

Yes as an overhaul of Minecraft would still make it Minecraft but that doesn't mean that the lighting engine is the same lighting engine, just as you could swap engines in a car and it's not going to be the same engine. I'm not really sure if it was a new lighting engine completely or just major tweaks to the old one. Whatever it was it handled half slabs significantly better as well as stairs and directional lighting but wasn't optimized so it was reverted.

posted a message on 3 New T-Flip Flops (1.5) Super Compact!
I wouldn't call exactly those "super -duper compact"

Ahem, it's not instant but it's still fast and better yet, piston-less

I did like the second design but I appall falling edge so I added another torch for the input
