posted a message on Skygrid world generation
Skygrid was an awesome idea, but the mods that allowed it are highly outdated now. What Skygrid is, for those who don't know, is spawning a single random block every so many spaces on the X, Y, and Z axis, forcing the player to spawn on one exact block. Chests would occasionally appear, filled with random items.

I would like to see a skygrid world generation mod that is forge compatible, able to spawn in all of the additional blocks and update the list of what can be in chests to include the additional items, too.

Alternatively, whether or not the above is viable, I would like to see a mod for the latest official release that does this (by official release, I'm talking about 1.7.2).

Officially, there are supposed to be three spaces between each block. Having water or lava pillars from high up on the map (65-100?) every here and there (Let's say 90, removing the entire column of blocks that would otherwise generate there) could be beneficial, too.

I fought a group of Pecks and the last one (normal peck) had like 10x the hp of the others. I assumed he picked up some of the beans from the others and used them to keep him self alive. Any confirmation on that?

I tried to do some tests on a superflat world.
A dark node will create Eerie biome, we all know this. You can plant magic beans on any kind of tree in the eerie biome.
removing the dark node and putting a pure node doesnt seem to do jack. Maybe I just havent waited long enough but so far no change.
A bloom on the other hand will return the eerie back into planes.

Iv tryed to get a taint biome to form by flooding a crucible. after a long time and alot of slimes later It finally created a taint biome on 2 squares. It didnt seem to spread nor was my flux creating any more taint. so I tried placing a bloom to see if it would turn that into a magic forest. It changed it back to plains.

This want was I would call a thorough test but from what I can tell you cant change other biomes into a magic forest with this method.
I should note I used aura's from jars rather than growing silver wood trees.

Seeing as you can plant magic beans and pecks spawn from eerie you dont really need magic forest, eerie works just fine.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like you didn't try to purify the tainted region? On the server I'm on, I've flooded tainted areas with silverwoods and kept tearing down the fibers that try to convert them, eventually it turns into a magic forest. This may be because it started as a tainted biome, though.

    SERIOUS PROBLEM:

In my game I have come across a very game-breaking problem and I'm not sure how to recover.

I have been researching various discoveries and things with my research table, and it was a little difficult for me at first, but eventually I did manage to discover around 12 or so recipes. The problem now, is that I have no more research points.

I can't do any more research. I can't scan anything else with the Thaumometer, the so called "best way of getting research points" in the thaumonicon. Sadly, it didn't tell me that this "best method" was a temporary one, and eventually runs out on you and abandons you completely.

I don't know what to do. I can't play the game, basically.

If there is some awesome way to recover research points that the book or this forum has not pointed out, please do point it out to me.

Or at the very least, please update the game with a more realistic way of attaining research points.

    Thank you.

Just keep scanning EVERYTHING you can find. If you're on a server, ask if anybody has a Deconstruction Table you can use, if you're on SSP, just start a new world. If neither's an option, go look for nodes, that will help you get more research points.

    The deconstruction table is:
Down the knowledge path. Eventually, you'll notice a block instead of an eye symbol, try and go for it there.

Ah, so to make a magical forest, you first need to create some eerie land? Clever.

Right now I am building a farm to get 64 tempestas, because this seems like the rarest of all aspects and also does not yet have a use. Has anyone found anything besides nodes/beans that provide this?

Other players. Or, well, ONE other player. "Undead Machine of Weather" we call him, since his aspects are "Human, undead, machine, weather." You may locate other players who have weather in their list too, but probably not the exact same three.

Of note: My bonus aspects (ignoring the humanus everybody gets) are order, craft, and armor.

Okay, another question: Is there a config option to enable more types of crops from other mods based on ID so that the golems can recognize it?

Like, rice or corn, or other types of trees for the woodcutter core.

A question about silverwoods... I took a chance, hoping to get a couple of saplings, and chopped down a silverwood. I did indeed get two saplings, don't know if that's normal now or just really good luck (or maybe even a low number now). I planted one of them in the same spot as the original tree. However when it grew, it did not manifest as a typical 'huge' silverwood, but rather as a pitifully short silverwood 'bush'. Was that just unluck?

Could anyone give us the skinny on silverwoods? Is there a trick to planting them, getting saplings, etc.. Is there any chance that silverwoods, unlike any other tree, might grow beyond an initial bush size to true epic silverwood giants as they mature?

Oh, and when I chopped down that silverwood (using tree capacitor actually), there were a couple of logs left in the air. When I chopped those, apparently I also chopped a node. I take it that was a bad thing to do. Ought I to have left that alone, or would a replanted silverwood regenerate the node?

I've found that when planting silverwoods, if I plant them too soon or too close, they grow smaller. Let things settle down, then plant a sapling, and wait for it to grow before planting another.

Treecapitator does have an issue where it does not recognize the node logs, but the Axe of the Stream will recognize them and pop them. At present, you can take advantage of this to not accidentally release a bu nch of flux.

Have you actually tested it? If it works like that, it would be awesome.

Tainted biomes do become magic biomes if you flood them with enough silverwoods to get pure nodes to show up, but I'm trying to be legit about this. I'll go and jar a dark node once I locate one.

I've found a few more ores, aside from diamond, that can be smelted but don't have nugget forms: Coal, Redstone, Lapis Lazuli, Emerald, and Quartz.

I'm not asking that they do, but will they?

Question: How do you replant magic beans? I'm trying to replant them but my character keeps trying to eat them instead.

Anybody figured the best way to mass-produce thaumium ingots? Cauldron overflows if I try to make more than four or so at a time.

Overflowing doesn't seem to be all that much of a problem--I mean, sure, you'll get liquid vis floating upward, but the aspects are still in the cauldron. Just dumb another pail of water in and then lob your ingots in.

The problem here is that the water decreases by a certain amount each transmutation, meaning you'll have to dump more in again.

I think nodes in jars don't recharge.

They don't, nor can they be drained. As you yourself stated, putting them over a bit is likely the best idea. Or fencing the chunk in. Or maybe just spamming iron golems there.

I seem to have come across a conundrum.

I was trying my first hand at creating Nitor that I researched long ago, but got up to now to use the Thaum cauldron for.

I put a couple torches in and a piece of coal, then lobbed the Glow dust in and it did not expel the Nitor I wanted. I used my wand if that function was still in it and... well nothing happened, it was already beginning to exude flux so I had to destroy it before it got out of hand.

Anyone have any insight as to why the catalyst did not combine and create the desired end product?

Cauldrons lose their liquidized aspects over time, but it looks like the problem here is that you only threw in TWO lux, ignis, and potentia, when it calls for three.

Throw in six torches and two coals, then two glowstone dusts.

Since it's possible to smelt silk-touched diamond ore into a diamond, will there be diamond nuggets?

Hoppers, and if you have a mod that adds it - copper.

    Hoppers! Yes, thank you!

Unfortunately, I'm playing on a server with friends, one of whom has a poor quality computer and would have trouble if we added more major mods. Our host has, however, been looking forward to more sources of aspects...

Anybody got a list of what items have the aspect Permutatio? So far, the only item I've found is the shimmerleaf, and I'm trying to save those up for making Ethereal Blooms.

I'm assuming the starting node is the upper right one? You can't split a node/rune in different directions, you have to make one solid line from the first node to the last.

Bottom left, actually. If you look near the top right node, there's a "double Z" rune that should connect it to the left, since other double Z's lit up, but didn't light up for some reason.

    PS: Proof of starter node:

I should have been able to finish this research, but that one rune refuses to activate for some reason.
