    So basically create WorldGenRuins with similar programming to WorldGenDungeon? Just need to figure out exactly what all the variables mean in WorldGenDungeon to figure out what will change it's spawn location(i.e.: to above ground) and go from there I guess. Not originally interested in making a mod like this but now I am. Would make worlds very interesting.

    So maybe a new gen that would randomly place structures as chunks generate? But how would you get minecraft to run it without editing the existing gen files to use it? Otherwise wouldn't you just have a class that "exists" but isn't being used actively?
    Maybe have like a WorldGenRuins similar to WorldGenDungeons that extends the world gen, works above ground(not sure where I'd find this in WorldGenDungeons. Maybe where it says
    public boolean generate(World world, Random random, int i, int j, int k)
    ?) And mess with how it makes the cobble and mossy cobble?
    Might have to wait until 1.8 when notch adds npc villages to see how he'd generate villages on the surface.

    Not a professional modder or javacoder by any means, but my best guess on how you'd do this would be that you'd have to mess with the worldgen and biomegen files to randomly place a Structure(an object and class you'd have to make yourself). Take a look through those gen files and see what you can figure out. Again, I'm only a beginner at this coding and whatnot myself so take this with a grain of salt.

    Since there isn't really a place for help on mod-creation, this is the closest thing, but I hate to violate forum rules by asking a question, but oh well.

    I'd like to create a new Blockrendertype but I'm having trouble not only finding where in the codes this is, but how I'd translate it to a model. Any help from people that have dabbled in it before?

    How about adding small houses to the world gen on top of grass. It'd be kinda cool to be exploring and happen upon an abandoned hovel with a chest or two inside that maybe had apples or a saddle or something that you could use as a little bit of shelter if you want to find another spot to dig in.

    An improvement I'd like to see with stairs is the removal of it's auto-orientation. It can be a pain in the ass when I'm trying to build a spiral staircase or just a simple stair upwards where for some reason it thinks it needs to point sideways. Why not make it so stairs point up the direction you're facing?

    Right clicking on a table with a block of :White: could put tablecloth on it. It'd also be kinda cool to be able to dye cloth for different colored tablecloths. Maybe make red be:

    [] [] :White:

    Similarly with a yellow flower instead of a red one. Adding in more flower colors naturally.
    Enter fancy dining room for mushroom soup.

    For fishable blocks, maybe make a block of water with some fish hanging out in it that randomly appears near coasts (similarly to clay, except maybe more common). Potentially allow the fishing block to be picked up with a bucket or something to be able to put a fish tank in your home.

    How about a gold candlestick? Some fancy ornate lighting would be nifty, particularly on something like a table.

    The candle stick could be crafted as:

    [] :GoldBar: []
    [] :GoldBar: []

    The table could be made something like:

    [] [] []
    :wood: :wood: :wood:
    :|: [] :|:

    The table would fill up a 2x2x2 area or extend the same way fences do.
