You guys are really full of yourselves. Do you really think the Minecraft community is somehow superior to the Xbox 360 community? First of all, the average gamer is 35. Second of all, I guarantee more young kids have access to computers than have access to Xbox 360's. Poor kids in Mexico can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360. Poor kids in Africa can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360.
Furthermore, on top of all that - I've seen tons of immature, trash-talking, foul-mouthed kiddies on Minecraft servers. Just saying...
As for having the option to not allow Xbox 360 players, I don't think it's necessary. Server admins can already kick users. If a user is not following your servers rules, kick them. You already have the tools necessary to deal with unwanted players. There is no reason to add any more, especially ones which arbitrarily discriminate against players based upon their hardware and a superiority complex.

I've used Ubuntu off and on on some of my machines for the past year, since Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx", since then they have released "10.10" Maverick Meerkat, 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" and 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot". After the newest version 11.10, they added some new things and changed around the GUI. I kind of liked the old GUI better, but you can still switch back to the old view anyways. You can also set the OS to dual boot so you can have both Windows/Mac OSX and Ubuntu Linux being able to run on the same machine, and you select which OS during the boot screen. You can also wipe your machine and just install one singular OS on it as well.
Also, I do not like how the minimize, maximize, and close buttons are on the top left of the windows instead of the top right (MS style). There is a fix for this here, which involves changing around some code. If you are new to Linux, I suggest you start learning about the Terminal and Terminal commands.
As for games compatibility, don't expect to jump into Linux and be able to run every single program you could run on Windows, it's not the same. But, with a little work, you can get most things to work. Programs like WINE, PlayOnLinux, and other similar programs will definitely help you in those departments.
Ubuntu also features a software center, an application that allows you to search through thousands and thousands of Linux/Ubuntu compatible software. It downloads straight through the app, you don't have to go searching online for Linux compatible software or files because you can just install programs straight from this application. It makes it very easy to use.

I was under the impression that Ubuntu was a Linux distribution, not a LUnix distro? Was this incorrect? Or did you mean Linux in general and not LUnix?

Your title says "have beta gift code" - Minecraft is no longer in beta. There will be no beta versions on XBLA, afaik
Therefore a "beta code" would not work on Xbox 360 as the versions on Xbox 360 are not beta versions

Secondly, Minecraft is not out yet for Xbox 360. When it comes out, it is estimated to cost 1,200 MS points ($15). 400 points would be extremely cheap for this game, and I seriously doubt they would sell it for that price. In fact, I am absolutely sure they wouldn't sell it for that price
Are you sure your friend isn't talking about Total Miner or CastleMiner currently available on XBLA? They are 240 MS points ($3)

Furthermore, the idea that an Xbox game could never allow mods or private servers is false. Google "Xbox 360 Private Servers", they do actually exist.
Minecraft would not have to be "modded" to run server plugins, as they could all be serverside (never actually downloaded to the client, as they "run" off the server itself)
If you don't like Xbox, why are you here to discuss Minecraft on Xbox? Just to come talk trash on it and say how you think Xbox sucks? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

Shadowrun, one of Xbox 360's first PC to Xbox 360 cross-platform compatible games came out in 2007, over 4 and a half years ago.
Not sure what you mean by "Cross-Platform Gaming has only just started to be used..."
Furthermore, it was already originally announced long ago that the Xbox 360 version would be cross-platform compatible with the PC version of Minecraft

I will purchase Minecraft XBLA if I know for sure I can play online with my friends who run a PC server. The mixed views on this seem disparaging, though. If I cannot do this, when it was announced that I could, I don't think I will purchase this XBLA game version anymore if I can't do what I was told I could do

Minecraft enchanting, potion making, the Nether - none of those things exist in Wicca (or any form of Witchcraft that I have studied or heard of)
Nor are they a part of ANY of the religions I have studied, including all the ones I've listed
There is a huge gigantic line between fantasy for entertainment, and the worship of demons and being a heretic
Furthermore, if you are worried about "bad things" and protecting your children from them, hiding them away from them is not the way to have them be protected. Bad things are everywhere, in everything, in every part of life. To pretend they don't exist, and to shield your children from them and fool them into believing those things don't exist, is the same as lying to your children
Edit: Brian, I mean everything I have said with all due respect. I also just wanted to point out here that it would have been a lot easier (and a lot better) if you would have made your request without mentioning how you think using potions in a video game is "witchcraft", and how you need to "protect your children". If you left those things out, nobody would have thought you were starting trouble, and your requests would have been valid and credible.
